Not sure Phillips is the kind of player that is ready to come back in after 6-7 weeks off.
 
I think that we have (i.e. Bolton) has discovered that we need to have either Kreuzer or Phillips as our #1 ruckman and have Gorringe and/or Casboult in the side as the chopout.

We can't have Kreuzer and Phillips in the same side. They are too much alike and are better suited to playing all day as the ruckman.

Gorringe is a good mobile target up front and has quick hands and can take a good grab. He is also a damned decent kick.

He is a definite upgrade on Jones... but then again, Jones is a pure tall forward and Gorringe isnt.

I don't think that at all .

It was clear that two rucks was the preference before Phillips got injured and they've done everything possible to keep Levi out of the ruck.

I brandished him
'Gorringe is the new hack' preseason & after his first game.

However was pleasantly surprised on the weekend. Plays like a tall flanker, needs some urgency but is worth persisting with at the moment.

If he keeps kicking a few goals he becomes handy.

Jones pressure is great but he blows up, poor second efforts & in reality hardly clunks yet creates a contest

really depends on the structure the club wants... and we dont know...

Phillips is more your classic ruckman

Needs to hit the gym hard. He's a bit of a lobster at the moment - huge arms and no chest.

Make him stronger and he will be even more versatile with his engine.

I will list the reasons below why I feel horrible will not be part of any premiership side and why I would be happy to trade at end of the year.

- He is scared of contact
- He is too easily moved off his line and can only ever play as a 3rd tall. - Could be a good backman physically but just doesn't read the play well enough.
- His competitiveness is conditional ( like jones, who I also would still not have long term even after looking better in the last few weeks)
- He is not a competitive beast and wouldn't rather die than win ( see Simmo)
- He has little game sense and won't just Pop up in the right spots like say an Everitt who also shares some of his softness. But for me they are going for the same spot and Everitt is ahead in all or most )
- Cannot ruck
- Average to poor handball skills
- Not a great mark and plays much shorter than his height.

Things I like
-Great mover
- Nice kick for taller man
- Pretty good agility for taller man
- Amazing physique

We are all seduced by players with this athletic prowess but unless they have the toughness and the ability to read the game, they always fail. I call it the Clinton Benjamin syndrome...

Fills a spot for now, and I couldn't be more happy with how the team is progressing as a whole. I get goosebumps thinking about Sunday's game.

But that doesn't mean I'm not a realist, or can't still see where we have a lot of Work to go. For me: while he can still find a spot in out team, it means we are t ready to be contenders.

Saying he is scared of contact is pretty shithouse IMHO. I highly doubt that's the case and you're making an assumption based on how many games you've seen?

His skills by hand look fine. Probably well above average for someone of his height.

I agree with a lot of your other points but calling a player scared or soft is bullshit for mine. Not after two games anyway.

Happy to change that to "doesn't enjoy contact" but same sort of thing.

Live on GC and a suns member too. Seen him play and disappoint a lot, seen him flying at training there too. After seeing him train this preseason I was impressed and ready to give him another crack, but I just don't see the things in him I need too see.

Check my other posts. I don't pot players, and was one of maybe 2 to keep reiterating that thomas would be a key player for us this year. I've also stuck up for Gibbs when was called soft. He just doesn't dive in, he thinks a lot, sometimes in the past too much and that makes him seem like he is avoiding the contest when he is actually corralling the player etc.

I think many Carlton supporters need to take a leap out of boltons book. Don't get too high after a win, don't get too low after a loss.

Given everyone else's lack of enthusiasm for him prior to last match, I was loath to have him take a spot on the list going forwards, and his performance against NM had me understanding why; he doesn't play tall, he gets lost in the play, and he doesn't clunk marks like a conventional tall.

That being said, though, against Geelong he was very good. He drew the ball a few times, his hands were neater in close, and he demonstrated that, when not up against Goldstein, he can ruck a bit, too. And, unlike Jones - who I think may actually turn it around, if his motivation stays as it is this year - Gorringe is naturally athletic, is very fast for a tall, and draws the ball magnetically sometimes.

He will never be Lance Franklin, but what he could be is an absolute beast of a third tall, playing like Everitt when not in the ruck supporting either Kruezer or Phillips. For mine, keep with the notion of him playing majority forward, and working on his leading more than his contested marking.

interesting point. We know what we will get from Jones but we don't know from Gorringe and his ceiling seems high.

He has to want it.
 
I'm going to keep this pithy, but Gorringe has shown quite a bit in just a small slice of the season. His apeel so far in this section of his career is the zest with which he is playing. As long as he does not run out of juice over the season he should be able to squeeze out a good career for the Blues. Hopefully the seeds of hope we have seen are real and not an indication of pulp fiction. You may disagree but do not be too protestant against my opinion.

I recall Gorringe mentioning that he plays his best footy as a follower rather than a kpp. Feels more comfortable using his tank and playing as an extra on baller or something along those lines.

He is showing signs that he could play the tall midfielder role ala Blizcavs at the cats, while chopping out in the ruck.

If he keeps clunking marks like he did today then he could be an absolute weapon for us.

Nah, You do get him. He is just odd. Hopefully not as odd as Laurence Angwin.
For some reason he reminds me of guys like tall Michael Gallagher and Andrew Cavedon that was with us in early 1990's.
I genuinely hope there is more to him. Glad we are at least having a look at him.
