Universal Love David Teague

The prez said today he was amazed that Teague was under pressure to keep his job. I’m sure he’s backed internally and I don’t see why we should come and respond to stupid media speculation.

The clubs not dumb, I’m sure they can see we’ve struggled to get our best team on the park. But the way some at the media has come for us and Teague has been appalling.

Though whoever does the Sunday night show on SEN said he went through our list and thought there was as 9 that could come into our best 22. So maybe, just maybe we have more depth than other so called journos give us credit for.

I believe it is the game style putting the pressure on him and the lack of defensive intent.

Nice win on weekend, however the game was basically a replica of all the other matches, only difference was we played a weaker side - thus won. Something is wrong with the plan or the execution as 63 inside 50s for the bombers means we are not going to be beating any top 8 sides with this style of football.

Hopefully they can get things organised rapidly.

I think the COVID cuts to our coaching staff has definitely had a negative impact.

I know all clubs had to cut coaching staff but it would have more of an impact on new, younger coaches than the older experienced ones. The workload on all coaches has increased and IIRC Teague is going through some personal issues with his mum not in the best of health. It would be tough.

Reckon we could do with an experienced assistant coach...read some reports that Don Pyke and Choco Williams have played a big part in the rise of Sydney and Melbourne this year respectively.

Senior CoachDavid Teague
Head of Coaching PerformanceHenry Playfair
Assistant Coach (Forward)Cameron Bruce
Assistant Coach (Defence)Dale Amos
Assistant Coach (Midfield and Stoppages)John Barker
Assistant Coach (Midfield and Transition)Brent Stanton
Head of DevelopmentLuke Power
Development CoachDaniel O'Keefe
Development CoachJason Davenport

Serious question but who out of these group would be on big $.. We have the youngest least experienced senior coach... so you would assume he isnt being paid a whole lot compared to Hardwick, Clarkson, Scott etc. Our assistants are most unproven, so again wouldn't be on high salaries.. Looking at this i would say we would be in the bottom few clubs for spend in our coaching department.

Andrew Russell is the one taking up a lot of our soft cap. He’s on big big coin. Anyone know when his contract is up?

Russell. Probably on more than the coach.

Edit: I've been looking for a list of what actually included in the soft cap, but can't find one.

I'm guessing doctors, physios, equipment like footys and gym equipment would be included. Are surgeries etc included? How about sports psychology?

Lot of blokes in there from the Geelong Region football.

Playfair at Geelong.

Amos, Davenport and O'Keefe all played GFL.

That is an outdated list. Playfair and Davenport are no longer at the club, they were let go last year due to Covid.

The Blues made swift changes to their coaching structure as COVID-19 hit. Part-time specialist coaches Greg Williams, Saverio Rocca and Hamish McIntosh lost their roles, while Josh Fraser, the club's VFL coach, was made redundant as part of their move away from the Northern Blues. Development coach Jason Davenport remains stood down, while director of coaching Henry Playfair is back working remotely.

This is what Ross Lyon said when asked about potentially getting back into coaching.

It really shows the importance of high quality assistants, something Teague doesn’t have and something fingers crossed changes at year end.

Time for a full clean out of line coaches at the end of the year. Amos included in this, while our defence has been alright, I found it extremely surprising that we play a man on man defence rather than zone. Very outdated method

Lyon told Triple M on Sunday:

“The only way I would even consider doing it … there’s a few assistants that I really respect their knowledge and what they’re capable of.
“There’d be an offensive coach that I think ‘yep, he could really complement’. I would need people that aren’t ‘to the line’ guys, that are over the line, are really competent in their areas, so you can get to the playing group, you can work on the dynamic.

“Head coaches and coaches are working harder than ever again because the soft cap’s been slaughtered. So you’re working like you did eight years ago.
“The last three years I had someone to make me a coffee to be honest. But now, you’d need quality assistants.”

this is coming from my personal view.

I didnt mind his style of coaching, as he got us to finals for 4 years in a row. Only time freo has made finals for 2 years in a row was under Ross Lyon of 2012-15.

Saying that, he got the best of a Limited freo side. Dont care what anyone thinks. Go Look who had the better forward line in the 2013 Grand final between hawks and freo. Hawks had Buddy, Roughhead, Cyril Rioli, Puopolo, Hale and Gunston. Freo had Pavlich, Mayne, Ballantyne, Walters and Zac Clarke.

I have posted this on the main Board. I dont think Teague is a bad coach. Boltons 2016-19 stint wasnt bad if you Judge him by the kids he played. Its more of a face rebuilds are harder and longer. You cant got from bottom 4 to finals in 2-3 years. Actual rebuilds now days are 5-6 years minium those 18-20 year olds you get in the 1st year are 23-25 year olds 5 years down the track.

As I said Brendan Bolton had the toughest part of the rebuild and the toughest part is the start of it. From his 2016-19 stint, the 1st draft was 2015 and Carlton got Jacob Weitering and Harry McKay. Thats your Full back and Full forward settled.

The point is Brendan Bolton had to play a lot of 18-19 year olds. Those 18-19 year olds in 2016 where 22-23 year olds under Teague at the end of 2019.

History shows to make finals now, the Bulk of your best players are in that prime age 26-30 year old range. I look at Carltons list and Most of them are in that 21-24 year old range.

everyone is talking about Trading and Free Agency. My opinion is this you dont want to lose Cripps. You sure as hell dont want to lose Harry Mckay, especially when he is about to hit his prime years.
