Chile and Russia would be a good tie, presuming the top players are available. Federer has said he is not playing Davis Cup so Spain should have an easy win.

USA field their best possible team, for once.
For once? Over the past few years they have fielded very strong teams.

But there are some very strong looking teams, and great to see most of the top players representing their country. The one main exception is Federer of course, but that comes as no surprise. Imagine a Federer/Nadal Davis Cup battle; that would be awesome.

BELGIUM v AUSTRALIA: Venue: Liege, Belgium (clay - indoors)

Belgium
Olivier Rochus
Kristof Vliegen
Christophe Rochus
D1ck Norman
Captain: Julien Hoferlin

Australia
Lleyton Hewitt
Chris Guccione
Paul Hanley
Peter Luczak
Captain: John Fitzgerald

You would like to think its up to Lleyton to be the dominant player. Lets hope he is free from injury and gives a good showing

Though I do believe Australia should win 3-1

And people dare have a go at Lleyton

Federer a disgrace

Wrong, Federer is smart. Switzerland have bugger no hope unless Federer plays every single tournament which would eventually tire him out. In the end players care about Grand Slams not Davis Cups for crying out loud. Lleyton can win 100 Davis Cups...but he won't be winning 10 grand slams+ that Federer will win. Federer i'll remember, Hewitt will be just someone who was between the sampras and the federer era to be honest! Tennis is a individual sport!

So why do people have a go at Lleyton when he says he is injured and might miss DC?

Why are you so confident?

Hewitt on clay..um yep he is ordinary on that surface, belgium are not. Guiccone just got beaten by Rochus in the AO, despite Rochus playing awful!

Hewitt wins 2, but Belgium wins the tie 3-2 for mine.

I think Hewitt is a better all round player than O Rochus.

I can't speak for everyone, but from my view I definately don't have a go at Lleyton for missing Davis Cups. In fact I'd rather him miss a few more in order for him to do better in Slams!

I tipped Hewitt to win his 2 rubbers, in other words I have tipped him to beat Oliver Rochus. Guiccone will lose his 2. Then it will come down to the doubles and realistically Hanley is a fantastic doubles player but who else have we got. Hewitt hasn't played doubles in years probally. You'd have to give the advantage to Belgium there.

I think the gooch will get the nod over Luczak.

Wouldnt be surprised if the Gooch plays Doubles

Which is probably why he should play, to give his country a chance…

So why do Nadal, Roddick, Ancic, Berdych, Blake ect, ect all play and Federer doesn’t? Sure Federer has a busy schedule but so does everyone else and yet they manage to make the time for it.

To put it simply, grand slams are more important to Federer and rightly so to be honest. If Federer could play Davis Cup taht would not harm his grand slam preparation, then he would!

Clay? Ahhh..
Like the surface matters.

I can't believe so many top players refuse to play for their country's.. until they get further into the comp of course. It is a disgrace.

Why should players particpate every year in a competition that shouldn't run every year? It's about time many tournaments were run every 2nd year. eg. Davis Cup, Champion's League etc

Hanley and Hewitt played doubles together in the Adelaide International.
