How did Darcy's mobility and speed look? One knock on him has been his athleticism.

I am not really qualified to tell, but when ruck he seemed to move around the ground fine and impact most contests and take plenty of marks. When at full fwd he just led straight out of the square leaving his opponent behind and taking the mark at full stretch. No one was able to spoil him when he did this. Seemed quick enough? Got one free where his clearly exasperated opponent just held onto his jumper to stop him leading as it was almost guaranteed that with good delivery he was going to mark everything once he got that little break.

Cheers, interesting development.

Gippsland V Northern Player Reviews
Gippsland V Northern - comprehensive win by Northern

Gipps: 1 player stood out, a small handful looked decent

Chance Doultree - (19) stood out in a team beaten easily, worked hard and showed his class throughout the game.
Jai Serong - had an ok game, was involved a bit in the 2nd half, tall gangly player, might be a chance to get drafted late because of his size.

a few others played ok McGrath(19), D'Angelo(19), Noblett(19), Walton, Moschetti, Papley(19) and Evans

Northern: dominated most of the game with a few standouts

Ned Long - with 4 goals and some dominant contested marking as well as poss in the centre square he had a great all round game.
Ewan MacPherson - (19) another who played well through mid being tough and adding run through the middle
Joel Trudgeon - (19) another who was tough in the midfield and took a bunch of contested marks in the forward line
Josh Ward - added a lot of run and carry through the middle, good pace and skills in general
Jack Rossimel - had a few good moments as a leading forward, looked very competitive, good leading and marking and good in general play
Darcy Wilmot - intercept marking and run from defence as well as good disposal, he played another solid to good game

a few others who played ok Fitzgerald, Archer, Watson(19), Bowne(19) and De Bolfo(19)

5 players were top tier in this game imo - (very close all 5 players to being the BOG, i had them at 11-10-9-9-9 with the next player at 6 in my points system)
1. Chance Doultree - Gipps
2. Ned Long - North
3. Josh Ward - North
4. Ewan MacPherson - North
5. Joel Trudgeon - North

OK well i was at Box Hill City Oval, just so happened Sonsie was playing for the Hawks this weekend, i was watching him closely in the first Half, he got 10 disposals in the first half, kicked a goal from a mark 45m straight in front had 6 clanger/turnovers and 4 good poss(the goal, a good pickup and handball and another couple of short kicks), he didnt seem to have an opponent for most of the half, he just jogged around in midfield and half forward and didnt really man up on anyone, just seemed to look for as many easy HR he could get.

i didnt really keep too much notice of his second half, he did get a htb for a good tackle in the 4th quarter and kicked a good goal after the BHH mids created space for him and fed him on the run through for a goal on the run from 45m straight in front again(centre bounce clearance in the 3rd quarter). i doubt he got 20 disposals, but apparently he got 24 disposals last time i read someone quote stats, which surprised me as he didnt seem very active in the play after half time, but again i stopped watching him closely as i was trying to enjoy the game, i left with 5-10 minutes to go in the last quarter when it started raining heavily, so he couldve racked up a bunch of nothing disposals at the end? im not sure?

for a VFL debut i would say it was ok, he kicked 2 nice goals which were the highlights as well as a handful of clean disposals, plus a nice tackle to get htb in the 4th quarter, theres been 3 stat reports, one said 19 disposals which i think is true, another said 20 disposals and the 3rd says he got 24 disposals, who knows?

All the stats are available on the VFL/VFLW app

i was there watching him closely in the first and still watching out for him not as closely for the rest of the game, until i left with 5-10 minutes remaining(during that time only Werribee scored, i believe?), if he got 24 disposals, then call me Rumpelstiltskin.

Ok Rumpelstilskin 🥴

Tyler Sonsie (Box Hill Hawks)
Tyler Sonsie - Box Hill Hawks

Pros -

was able to get a decent amount of poss
kicked 2 very good goals from distance (40m+)
provided options on the outside and on the attack

cons -

lack of contested side of his game
lacks defensive running
physically small and potentially intimidated(which is understandable as a 17/18 yr old, but also potentially a worry)

i thought he did ok in some areas like providing attacking options on the outside and floating forward to kick goals(lovely kick at goal btw), but for an inside mid has a few weaknesses that he might need to work on.

Joel Trudgeon - is interesting, he is a good mark as a forward and kind of plays the Jarrod Berry style in midfield, although im not sure if he could step up to the level? he is one i like but im not sure of, if that makes sense?, lacks a bit of athleticism

Josh Green - is more of a tall defender, he is Tom Green's brother, i have not seen him play midfield, i've only seen him play KPD. he was a chance of being picked up late last draft, but wasnt

Jai Newcombe - has been one of Box Hill's best mids this year, tough and courageous inside mid, who could possibly make the step up?

Liam Conway - has looked ok, but i dont think he is draftable at this stage, a club might want to give him an opportunity?

Charlie McKay - he has been OK for Sandringham, another i dont think is draftable, but might be given an opportunity?

Thank you.

I had seen Josh Green and Newcombe this year in the VFL. I was impressed at what they were doing for their age and from a statistical point of view I am much more impressed with a 19 year-old getting 20 to 25 touches in the VFL than 25 ro 30 in the NAB League. But I wanted to know if I was missing information on the impact the NAB leaguers were having.

I have seen about 3 quarters of Josh Green this year (on Kayo), he is playing inside mid and looks surprisingly natural at it.

I liked what I have seen of Newcombe especially by hand, I think his kicking is servicable. How do you view his kicking?

One of our key draft watchers really likes Josh Green as an inside mid for us this year. Has been performing very well in the VFL.

Have not really looked into Newcombes kicking, just noticed he goes in hard with little to no fear, seems to do well from what i have seen, but i have not sat down and tried to find out his strengths and weaknesses.

Mid-Season Draft Player Preview
the mid season draft is 2 weeks away, i can talk about the 19 year olds and what options are out there

from previous draft pools, names such as Tyrone Thorne, Jackson Callow, Luke Partington and Oliver Davis have been talked about as possible pick ups.

Thorne i really liked his Championships form, he was in the WA winning team and looked like a quality little forward, very small and slightly framed, he has since put together an impressive WAFL resume.
Callow has been ok without setting the world on fire, he had a good game the other week and was a strong target at pre-season training with the Hawks although we had Lewis, Kosi and Jeka already as potential fits at this stage and he wasnt tried as a defender during his stay so it wasnt a good fit i guess?
Davis has been solid without starring in many of his Tassie games and now has a chance to impress Adelaide recruiters playing in the SANFL for the next few weeks
Partington has been a good midfielder for awhile now, was on WCE list a few seasons ago and has been top tier in the WAFL and now SANFL for seasons, he might get given a chance this time around

from the NAB League i have liked the look of a few 19 year olds, mainly the 3 rucks and a couple of others who might get drafted or at least looked at, they are Jacob Edwards, Max Heath, Ned Moyle, Chance Doultree

Jacob Edwads has already had a heap of press, he is a flexible ruck in that he can be a tap ruck or a tall forward with a good mark and good movement on the field, also has kicked a few goals this season
Max Heath is more your strongly built ruck man who specialises tap rucking and marking around the ground
Ned Moyle is also a strongly built ruck man who specialises in tap rucking and marking around the ground, he has had a good run of form for Collingwood in the VFL sharing the ruck duties the last 3 weeks
Chance Doultree has been very impressive in the NAB League this season and deserves a look before the draft takes place imo.

Ollie Davis played 4 games before heading over to Adelaide, 2 Tasmanian State League games where he was his team's best player in both and 2 Nab League games where he was judged the Devils best and 2nd best to Sam Banks in the other. Maybe selling his season a bit short?

Ive seen plenty of Ollie Davis, he is more a quality workhorse mid, he lacks the speed to be a star, i have been a fan of his though for a long time so i dont mean to come off as rude.

I've seen quite a bit of him too and I pretty much agree with your assessment just thought you were selling his season thus far a tad short. I watched his only SANFL game a fortnight ago and whilst he didn't get a lot of footy he excelled inside the contest with 6 clearances in a team he was obviously unfamiliar with, probably the 1st time he'd met the top up players in the SANFL side was game day.

Mid-Season Draft Player Preview (part 2)
A few 19 year olds from the NAB League i think could be a chance to be picked up in the MSD, although it seems there might only be a couple outside of the 3 rucks if they nominate? (Edwards, Heath, Moyle and Doultree are my top 4 from the NAB League)

Luke Cleary - from Sandringham, 189cm half back who i remember from 2019 and has been great so far in 2021, just a reliable defender, classy kid

Cody Raak - 192cm half back, has had a lot of poss and intercept marks from wayward kicks playing mostly loose in defence, im still not sold on him, but has put in the work to be a chance.

Joel Trudgeon - 185cm mid or forw, he plays taller than he is, really tough inside mid, lacks a bit of athleticism though, i have mixed feelings because i like him as a footballer, but im not sure whether clubs will take a chance on him?

Dylan Thomas - 187cm forward, good clever, agile and strong maori forw, kind of plays like Curtis Taylor, lacks a lit athleticism but is tough and knows where the goals are

Eren Soylemez - small forw who has looked good for Sandy this season, bit small at 178cm, but he knows where the goals are

Another couple who look to have improved a bit and could be smokies, Noah Gribble and Jye Menzie.

Thomas isn't Aboriginal. He has a bit of a mauri background.
