I went to the Caulfield vs Brighton game today, wow what a game. Brighton were 50 pts down until Cam McKenzie turned up his game a few notches. This kid can play! His goal on the 3qtr time siren was all class. He won a heap of stoppages and used the ball really well in the second half. His disposal by hand is elite. Jason Binns for Caulfield had a reasonable game, solid first half. Mitch Szybkowski was one of Caulfields best as well. Nick Watson kicked 3 or 4 but 2 of his goals came from shocking errors by the umps and from memory another was a downfield free kick. When the game was in the balance he just throws his arms up in the air when he gets tackled looking for free kicks he needs to improve this side to his game.
For Brighton aside from McKenzie Jonah Campigli was a reliable performer, he won some clutch contests. Lachie McClusky had some unreal moments, took some nice contested grabs and crucial goals. Little Will Lambert was consistent all day and kicked a couple of clutch goals in the last qtr against a tricky breeze. I really liked Jamie Hope (c) he competed well all day, I can see why he Leeds Brighton. He just gives his all at every contest.

Was there as well. Good summary. McKenzie was enormous in the last half. As you say, Lambert (he was the little red headed kid?) was clever. The kicking for goal in the conditions was fantastic by both teams I thought.

How did Levi do for Brighton?

How did Levi do for Brighton?

Did a few nice things but wasn’t a stand out.

Was a funny game. Caulfield looked to have an extra gear in the first half. After half time, Brighton won most of the centre clearances and were much cleaner by foot than they were in the first half.

didnt really have much of an impact
I don't follow the school footy at all but is Levi playing up 2 year levels being 2024 draft eligible and if so is that unusual or pretty common practice?

All teams had a few missing as they played in the u18 champs. From what I saw at this stage the gap has widened from the top 20 (2023 cohort) to the rest. I think we can pick the first 20 selected for the GF Day Futures game. The 20 including SA & WA boys.

Man i would give pick 22 in a second for Mitch Edwards very happy to give a top 10 pick for him

Luke jackson like I would have thought
That was meant to be Alex Condon this year before he chose basketball, that was a big hit to the top 10 of this years draft.

i have him there because i like what i see from him, but he lacks in a few areas like winning a good amount of poss and impacting the games consistently, he is good in the ruck and in the aerial contest from what i can remember and has good athleticism as well, but like most KPP's and rucks they need to perform in their draft years imo, he is a good height at 205cm, averages 11 touches, 2.5marks and approx 15 hit outs at the wafl colts, looked good at the champs, but needs to up those numbers and have more impact to go high, but he does have that raw potential, we'll see if he can convert that raw potential into performance next year to get a better idea of how he can translate that potential to the AFL in coming years.

I want to know this too. Sick of all these silver spoon players in the AFL
Vast majority are on full scholarships. I don't think it makes them "silver spoon" players if their families were smart enough to say yes when the school offered.

100% agree with this gandaal
When people comment that private school kids get a better look in it generally comes from jealousy. The reality is yes a high % of AFL draftees come from private schools because the best kids get scholarship offers. This doesn't make them silver spoon fed. There are plenty of kids on scholarships that are from very poor backgrounds. Academics or sports is just an enabler to give kids an opportunity that they otherwise may not get. But let's use footy as an example. It irks me when i hear people over the years say "once the private school boys come back, all the public kids get omitted" This is so far from the truth. The reality is, the public school kids get more than enough opportunity to show their talent while the private schoolers are playing school footy. Public get approx. 8 continuous weeks to show their ability and form to not only to stay in the team once the private school boys return but also to show AFL recruiters what they're made of. If they show attributes I can assure you 100% they will stay in the team at the AFL clubs request. Then on the flip side there are plenty of private school kids that don't make NAB lists not because they can't play, but because the NAB team has too much private school talent in their region. Many of these kids would be walk up starts in other regions that have little to no private school kids. Rant Over!

Talking about scholarships.

Word is a couple of Lions academy kids have been offered scholarships by Vic private schools.

No idea if they’ll take up the offers.

That’s on top of a Suns academy kid already on scholarship in Melbourne.

Must be getting really competitive down there, if they’re looking for out of state talent.

theres always kids from interstate taking Vic scholarships, usually from NT, Tas or NSW(usually riverina and bordertowns), they must be making a move into QLD with more talent from QLD being drafted in recent years.

There was some good talent in the QLD u17 squad. I reckon if they were based in Melb their development would improve. Maybe their managers are driving the scholarship inquiries.

would be much better if BT and James Brayshaw highighted their junior club where they played from Aus Kick, rather than the private school they joined at year 10
