Cal Twomey has suggested Weddle could go as high as top 20. If he has another performance like the WA game I agree, he will go top 20. If not somewhere between 20-30.

rank groupings update:

Elite: Will Ashcroft, George Wardlaw(2)

Top Tier: Harry Sheezel, Isaac Keeler, Jhye Clark, Elijah Tsatas, Elijah Hewett, Aaron Cadman, Mattaes Phillipou, Jedd Busslinger, Cam McKenzie, Matthew Jefferson, Mitch Szybkowski, Adam D'Aloia, Reuben Ginbey, Brayden George, Anthony Munkara. (15)

AFL Qualities: Oliver Hollands, Tom McCallum, Jacob Konstanty, Harry Lemmey, Harry Barnett(more KPD than ruck), Jaspa Fletcher, Al Davey Jnr, Lewis Hayes, Kobe Ryan, Olivier Northam, Callum Verrell, Jed Hagan, Lachlan Cowan, Bailey Humphrey, Luke Teal, Henry Hustwaite, Tom Scully, Darcy Jones, Jason Gillbee, Rye Penny, Charlie Clarke, Caleb Mitchell, Ted Clohesy, Will Dowling, Olli Hotton, Coby Burgiel, Josh Weddle, Shadeau Brain, Jayden Davey (29)

i think the top 17 or so are really strong this year, its a good crop, the 1st round should be filled with talent and i wouldnt be surprised if 1 drifted to the early 2nd round as happens every year.
I’ll eat my Hat if Harry Sheezel isn’t elite. He is a player in the mould of dusty degoey Toby Greene. He is the match winner of this lot. Wardlaw and Ashcroft are bank able mids at AFL especially Ashcroft. Wardlaw needs to build a better tank or will be found out.
Top Tier group looks great. I’d just like to see more of munkara.
AFL qualities group I also think it’s pretty talented. Not the finished product obviously but I think if they put in the work if drafted I believe this draft will be looked back on in a very positive light.
2 years without football has made this group hungry in my opinion.

i was actually close to putting him in the elite group, he probably should be there, but i just wanted to keep it as a place where Ashcroft 1a and Wardlaw 1b were represented as players who could both go pick 1.

Munkara has shown enough in the pre-season and for West Adel u18 and for AFL Academy for me, i would like to see him play well at the champs, but it didnt happen unfortunately.

Oh yeah see your reasoning there. You do very well at this draft analysis. It’s not easy work and will be interesting to see how it unfolds. I got a couple of favourite players that I think get overlooked in your AFL qualities group I believe can push higher up the draft but actually go on and be elite AFL players.

Davo-27 Thoughts on how Cam McKenzie and how high his draft range could be?

at a guess his range could be anywhere from 7-15, he has made up for the absence of Wardlaw for Vic Metro and has been a good 2nd for Ashcroft in the midfield, he was a half back last year and looked like a mid draft type, but has really shown his quality in the midfield where he has risen up the draft rankings and is pretty much a certainty to go in the 1st round.

Hey Davo do Collingwood take Michael Christian's boy Nicky?

Hey Davo do Collingwood take Michael Christian's boy Nicky?
he is a fringe player at Sandringham Dragons, so im not sure as only the best or guys with a lot of potential get drafted, Collingwood may think he has potential? or they might wait a year as he is a December birth so he can develop more?, then take him as a 19 year old? but i doubt he gets drafted this year after 2 games in the NAB League.

Is Hewitt in the Wardlaw level?

Opinions of D'Aloia seem to be varying from mid first to end of second- what do you think his pods are?
I was somewhat interested in him with our second if he's around!

pros - he wins contested ball(high clearance winner), he is an accumulator, he makes good decisions with ball in hand, he has consistent form at the state level which is a good sign for the next level, he has some ability to run, carry and kick a goal as he did for AFL Academy, does the defensive tackling in midfield.

cons - he is a bit one paced, midfield only.

VM V SA (111-38)

rainy in patches as well as sunny in patches, but overall windy and cold winters day, Vic Metro dominated a helpless SA

Vic Metro:
Will Ashcroft - played the conditions well, adapted to wet footy by gaining meterage and kicked a lovely goal when it was sunny around his body after a good run in the forward line
Olli Hotton - he had his own personal cheer squad at the game which was kinda funny, but it helped him have a great performance, kicked 3 goals and ran all day up and down that wing
Cam MacKenzie - another really good performance, had some good penetration on his kicking and was great again for Vic Metro
Blake Drury - this guy really lifts for the occasion, plays half forward and can play part time midfield, kicked 2 goals
Darcy Edmends - probably the best game i have seen him play, he has been underwhelming last yr and this yr, but this game he really had a lot of space thanks to the wet weather and really took advantage of that with good handling in the conditions
Lewis Hayes - what a great performance from the intercepting KPD, he was massive today and didnt allow any of the SA talls to influence the game at all

others who played well: Watson(3 gls), Philactides, Sheezel, Hempel, Verrell, Caddy(3 gls), Weddle, Jefferson(3 gls), Petric

Sth Aust:
Adam D'Aloia - again played a great game mostly in midfield, feeding runners and team mates clearances all game, kicked the first goal of the game too
Will Dowling - had an industrious day trying to gain meterage for SA, just lacked team mates up the field to fight for the ball
Mattaes Phillipou - started strong in the first before injury slowed him down a bit, still had a good game
Jakob Ryan - had a strong game off of half back, good run, carry and kicking out of defence

others who played well: Sadler, K.Ryan, Holt, Walker, Walls, Lovelock

VC - WA (83-40)

VC:
Oliver Hollands - best on ground, had a fantastic game providing a lot of drive from midfield
Mitch Szybkowski - a lot of hard work on the inside feeding runners
Jhye Clark - not his best game, but still very influential and his kicking skills helped VC keep momentum in the wet
Harley Reid - another dominant display from defence, when he isnt intercept marking he is cutting teams apart with his smart disposal and strong attack on the ball and man, early favourite for pick 1 next year.
Aaron Cadman - kicked 3.3 (in 3 games i believe he is 7.7) had a mark on the goal line where he didnt know if it was a mark and played on then missed the lot and it went OOB.

others who had good games: Binns, Long, Clohesy, Murdoch, Hustwaite, Bond, Northam, Burgiel

WA:
Koen Sanchez - has been injured for most of the year and this was a great comeback game, another top end player for 2023
Elijah Hewett - he tried all game, got tackled nearly everytime he went near the ball, much better performance than the Allies game
Koltyn Tholstrup - again another strong performance from the quality 2023 forw/mid
Reuben Ginbey - was strong in the wet conditions again providing a lot of link up play for the team
Rohan MacNeill - intercepting and generally playing well in defence for the most part

others who had good games: Edwards, Baker

update Top 40

i think this is a good group of players, 1 surprise player was Brandon Leary a 19 year old from the Allies/Tas who looked very sharp as a small forward kicking goals, very quick and skillful, a player who came from nowhere also from the Allies and i believe a Bris A product was Shadeau Brain, a player who has risen up the rankings recently is Olli Hotton, a few under performers have dropped a little, mainly Lemmey and Scully, McKenzie has broken into the top 10 at the expense of Elijah Hewett, McCallum and Hayes have broken into my top 20.
