Can we play these two in the same midfield?

They are both uncountable and found out against West Coast.

Both though are proven goal kickers. They should rotate between the midfield and half-forward. They would kick more goals and we'd only have one less uncountable player in the midfield.

We won a premiership with both of them mainly playing on the HFF. Sidebottom isn't really a clearance machine so him playing as a HHF wouldn't hurt us. With Beams we should just give Swan and Ball more midfield time as they really can't play as forwards.

I wouldn't want to see both in midfeild at same time. Would rather some sort of roatation as you mentioned between half forward/ midfield.

Beams is a genuine clearence player so needs to be in midfield more than Sidebottom. Would rather sidebottom around packs as a outside receiver as his dispoal and target hitup is better than other users.

I don't think Sidebottom should play in the midfield, I have been impressed with him the last few weeks running out of half back. I think he is the only player that can hold his head high after the Eagles game. He has been shocking at kicking at goal for a few years now, so let's use his talent and run of half back. He had a great game against Port Adelaide as well, playing that sort of role.

I agree with Mike123 as well though, he must be more accountable if he is to be playing off half back, it's something he must work on with the club during the preseason.

I'd wouldn't mind Sidebottom in the backline, but lately Sidebottom has kicked some clutch goals.

Sidebottom is unaccountable?

You constantly see him running back hard to help out the defence...

No, UNCOUNTABLE! I think it means they've both been getting so much of the ball we've lost count.

Our midfield has been struggling (mainly for depth), but these two have been very good recently.

I didn't say they haven't been good. I think their defensive side is questionable though. And i think they should play a bit more on the half-forward flank because they can hit the scoreboard.

I said Midfield not team. They'd rotate.
It's rare that they are actually in there together given the weirdness of our rotations. Usually it is one of Beams, Pendles, Swan or Sidebottom and then 3 others like Macaffer, Blair, Young, Ball, Kennedy, JT etc...

If we actually had a few centre setups with them in there together we might win more clearances.

Usually Sidebottom is on the wing with Beams in the square.

Beams maybe, definitely not Sidebottom.

Beams can at times be guilty of getting ahead of the play, ie he expects his teammates to win the clearance and runs forward or wide in anticipation of a handball or quick kick out. If his opponent doesn't follow him or even worse we don't win the clearance his man is left untended. This only occurs when he isn't winning the clearance himself, so in the last few weeks not very often. Pretty hard to fault him for leaving his man when the other team wins the clearance and its not his direct opponent that gets the clearance. I was always taught the guy with ball in hand is the most dangerous so go to him.

Sidebottom I don't think has ever played a "hard" tag in his career. He is an outside player and like most, leaves space between him and his direct opponent so he has time if he receives the ball or in an attempt to intercept. Sidebottom also leaves his man to run back hard in defense to assist our young, inexperienced backline. I can't fault him for this, as he would probably be the hardest runner in our team.

All that aside these two players have been in our best nearly every game this season so any criticism of them is minor at best. There are bigger fish to fry than flogging these blokes.

The best midfields have been attacking where the other team needs to worry about 'their' stars.

BL: Voss, Aker, Black, Lappin, Power

WC: Judd, Cousins, Kerr

Geel: Ablett, Bartel, Chapman, Selwood. OK Geelong had Ling but he was way back in the pecking order.

And this was the best midfield I'd seen when it was firing.

Coll 2011: |Swan, Pendles, Thomas, Ball, Sidey, Beams.

I would love to think that id Bucks does have a plan it would be to build a super midfield of stars.

Maybe in a couple of year Pendles, Sidey and Beams will be added with Broomhead, Kennedy, Scharenberg and Freeman to become a grat midfield.

If we have too much of anything it's boring limited defensive players. They are Goldsack, Blair, Macaffer, etc and some are playing midfield

Accountablitity is important but it works far better then you have stars and the opposition are worried about those guys.

Beams has had 98 tackles this year which is 18 more than our designated tagger, Macaffer. I think he's going OK defensively

Beams is close to the contest so he will naturally get more tackles, but that's still a pretty good work.

I have more of a concern about seeing Lumumba anywhere near the midfield - for a player who once played in the backline, he no longer has a defensive bone in his body. He only has 53 tackles for the year.. less than the 209cm Jarrod Witts (who has also played 2 less games).

Issue is cattle. Freeman, Karnezis, Swan, Ball, Thomas and Adams weren't in the team in our last game. Injury, form, for whatever reason they weren't in the team. But I envision almost all of them in our best 22 next year.

Those outs are the reason why Pendles, Beams and Sidebottom are required to do all the heavy lifting in the midfield. Who else is left? Macaffer, a pure stopper. Young, in and out of the team. Lumumba, unaccountable and not a true midfielder to begin with. Blair, a midfield rotation with limited impact. Dwyer, a small outside player. Broomhead and Kennedy are second year players who have had issues with injury in the past.

I'd revisit this question when we have more midfield depth, and for the record, I like Sidebottom playing as a HFF with some time in the midfield/wing instead of as a pure winger. But for now, we have no one else.

We have bigger issues right now than two of our top 3 Copeland contenders playing in the same midfield.
