To tell Brisbane "we will shop Beams around to other clubs unless you sweeten the offer". Which they have.

It's hardly "sweetening" the offer when they throw the list clogger they'd have to get rid of anyway our way as if it's some grandiose gesture.

The only hope we have is that another club will come to the party - otherwise we'll end up the laughing stock of the AFL and you can rest assured that any other interstate kids we develop into stars will be approached by clubs from their home state in exactly the same way, even though they still have more than 12 months to run on their contract, and get them to request a move home for "personal reasons" just like Brisbane appear to have done with Beams.

They've thought this through very well if the scuttlebutt about them putting the wheels in motion on Beams mid-season has any basis in fact - if that is the case then they've picked a perfect spot where the obvious local rival might be struggling for cap space and have thus (again allegedly) surreptitiously gotten in Beams ear by whatever channels necessary to lay it all out for him and get him to commit to a fat contract from them and them only.

1) 4 downgraded to 5 coz Melbourne can't get their shit together
2) Beams wants out to only one club. Poor form from someone we helped after the GF night debacle
3) Bundy leaving and choosing Brisbane and them using 21 on him.
4) Griffin nominating GWS. Puts them out of the market but let's not forget that Heater and Beams double at GWS may not be great for the young kids.
5) Malceski to GC. No room for a boom recruit.
6) good kids from BL happy where they are and quite anonymous.
7) we still don't know WTF is going on so easy on the 'club is **** ed talk.'

We gain a workman like midfielder in Greenwood. (only one good season)
We gain a Flashy Injury prone running defender in Varcoe.
We gain a VFL list clogger. Crisp (won't last long at Pies).

We lose.
Beams (Gun mid who can kick goals) A grader.
Harry (running backline player) Granted last couple of years he's been average.

Looks like we have gone backwards in this trade as Greenwood is no Beams. Varcoe and Harry very similar (draw there).
Crisps. I wouldn't even bother with. May get some games but will be a fringe player at best.

The only thing is PICK 5. If we can land a decent player either in the draft or from a club.

If we allowed this to go until 2pm on Thursday it would effect our ability to get any other deals done. I'm with timmy I get why people are disappointed with the deal but it's not personal. The deadline was a circuit breaker as was the so called lies everyone is taking personally. I think most will ca down in a few days and talk of not buying memberships and tearing down the west PAC centre will turn to crisps being the next Brownlow medalist of collingwood

Always a possibility, but I reckon Brisbane would give a first round pick rather than risk Melbourne or StKilda drafting him.
