Lots of debate on this board about these two and who should take over the #1 tagging role.
So here is your chance to say why and vote. (Yes, I know polls mean nothing, but what the hell).:)
Crowley is proven and tough. He has the ability to get under his opponents skin, which is very important in my opinion.
Yet he lets himself down with inconsistent disposal.
DeBoer is young, tough as nails and showed more than enough last year to say that he is up to the challenge.
He too, it seems, can let himself down with disposal at times.

De Boer for mine, by a bees you know what.

*First time posting a poll, forgive me if I screw it up*

Crowley has proved himself time and time again. He has done good jobs on Ablett in the past and to me that is a massive yardstick. A good tagger doesnt have to have the best ball skills as his primary job is to shut down a player but Crowley does seem to find the pill afair bit aswell.
De Boer has along way to go yet, a couple more years and pre-seasons and his body will be abit more mature and will be able to do a tagging job week in week out.

I voted for Crowley. Reasoning not straightforward, though. On last night's performance, I think DeBoer can be more than just a tagger. He's built like an absolute tank, which allows him to do his good stuff inside, and his skill level is clearly improving so he can hopefully add some outside work as well.

On the other hand, Crowley has had plenty of time to improve his skills and he still gets it wrong more often. As well as being a great tagger, he's very handy drifting forward to keep an opponent honest. But even this is more part of tagger's role. I think he needs to stay as our #1 tagger.

Crowls, just because i wouldn't give a second year player the major tagging role for a whole season and crowls has proven himself.

my opinion. de boer over crowley.i believe, de doer has already gone past him.so much to like about de boer.tremendous mark for his size, fearless attack on the ball.quick, good size for a defensive mid.hates to lose.barracked for freo when a grom.:thumbsu: only knock, kicking needs to improve and know doubt it will.

Both are suspect with their disposal, but I think De Boer is better with his disposal than Crowley. Ibbo didn't do to bad in the tagging roles he had last season also!

I'm lovin the depth they have this season!

I think there is a room for both in our best 22 but if I had to choose one it would have to be DeBoer. Constantly improving, tough as nails, very intelligent footballer, excellent mark, amazing work ethic and discipline etc etc. He is ideally suited for finals footy. Crowley has been pretty ordinary early last year and his skills are below par for AFL footballer. Same could be said for DeBoer but he has definitely improved in this area. Both are handy drifting forward. Close call but DeBoer has more upside.

I'd like to see Matty D develop into a player that goes and wins the footy instead of stopping someone else win it.

This is true. But tagging the likes of Judd, Ablett etc is a fine education for a young player on how to do that.

Going by the intra club I'd have to say DeBoer. I thought he was fantastic and a fair bit better than Crowley. This is probably because DeBoer was in the A team though. I also didn't like how Crowley smakced his teammate Barlow in to the turf.

A better thread would probably be DeBoer v. Barlow for the Rookie elevation.

Room enough for both to thrive IMO, Crowley however still picked in my side before DeBoer (as much as I love the way DeBoer goes about it)

DeBoer will become the number one tagger in the future, but for the moment you would have to go with Crowley, simply because of experience, and he will provide a good role model for De Boer to learn from. De Boer also seems to have a lot more facets to his game, so it would be interesting to see if he could develop these before he is pigeon holed as a tagger.

I'd prefer to see DeBoer given more centre square time. He's being used as a HFF and is reasonably successful. I just think he has the ability to be a topline extractor. His hands in close combined with his pace and strength would be an asset around the ball. Basically i don't see him as a pure tagger. I just think he could play a Cross or Watson role.

In my opinion the game has gone past pure taggers. Players go head to head these days. Often playing on 3 or 4 different opponents during the course of a game.

So in the long term i think DeBoer > Crowley. Right now, Crowley > DeBoer.

Where did I say that we couldn't have both?
This is about the #1 tagging position.

No where, was just my opinion that both could fit. Instead of having a poll with De Boer vs Crowley why not have De Boer and Crowley and just have a discussion instead of turning it into a versus match.

Why does it have to be #1 and #2 tagger.
Wouldn't it be better to have 2 taggers and whoever is better suited to the opposition player have them play on that player.

For example Crowley has owned Ablett the last 2 times he played and I'd go for that matchup again. De Boer I'd have on Kerr over crowley because of grunt and ability to run all day. Crowley I'd have on Daniel Cross and have him go forward and kick goals and make Cross play defender.

Both would be very handy and It all depends on who we play. So no #1 or #2. Just 2 Taggers who play on the opposition's better players depending on suitability to that player.

For round 1 - Crowley.

Thugh Mr Crowls I note from your past record that you have often needed a hot poker shoved up your Masten to get you to work at the top level.

Well guess what - the poker is in the fire and that furnace goes by the moniker De Boer.

If you go missing or your poor skill execution costs us - you may well find yourself out.

*sighs*

OK mods, delete the thread.
George f***ed up again.

SS, I am just trying to generate some discussion on what is a relatively dull board.

If you have a better idea, then please feel free to start your own thread and I will happily shut up.

In the meantime, if no-one was prepared to start a thread, and we all just sat there and f***ing read, this board would die a very quick death.

Mate SS is just offering his opinion and thus contributing to the discussion.

Harden up Georgie.

Correct. Don't delete the thread. I just think if you want to have a discussion we don't really need a poll.

But alas it's there now and so we move and and Discuss, Like i have been. Don't fret it's a good topic to talk about. It's just my opinion that we don't need a poll.

But I'm still adding to the discussion so what's the matter?
