SACKED Melbourne coach Dean Bailey looks set to head to Richmond as an assistant to Damien Hardwick.

Bailey will reunite with the Tigers head coach who was a player at Port Adelaide when Bailey was an assistant to Mark Williams in Power’s historic first ever premiership in 2004.

He was also into his formative AFL coaching days as a development coach in 2000 when Hardwick was an integral member of Essendon's powerhouse premiership outfit under the great Kevin Sheedy.

Bailey’s Tigers appointment appears imminent.

Obviously speculative, but he has some experience. Wonder if he knows what to do when being told not to deliberately lose games.

Not sure what to think of this.
Didn't cut it as a senior coach, maybe assistant is more his thing, Dimma has been involved with him previously so if its true I will back his judgement because at the end of the day none of us have any idea what he is like as an assistant coach.

I know the bloke has a great reputation as development coach from his days under Williams and Sheedy but I'm interested to see how he will go as an assistant to Dimma after a failed senior coaching gig

Personally, will be very happy if this eventuates.

Being reported on SEN as I type. No confirmation just yet, sounds like they are quoting the report from the link above in fact.

What a joke, a clear example of these guys helping their mates out by giving them jobs. Bailey was a dud at Melbourne and will continue to be a dud at Richmond.

Yet another of Hardwick's old mates and colleagues joins the ranks. We need to widen the net.

Bailey would be an excellent pickup. He's a fantastic developer of young players and as long as he's not "driving the car" he'll be an asset. He's a great communicator and experienced footy person.

Just don't make him your defensive coach. ;)

Was obviously a dud assistant at Essendon and Port during their premiership years as well. I must not have read the part where it says he will be replacing Dimma as head coach

Blah, blah and more blah. Why didn't Melbourne keep him on if he was so great? Obviously he is no good and not even worth keeping on as a runner.

I'm sorry, but I would rather Mr Eade than this loser.

Couch patatoes are realy quick to label people duds on this site , how many games have they coached i wonder ????????

Big NO to bring anyone in from a LOSERS enviroment/culture.

When he played at Essendon they were successful.

was in coaching gigs at essendon and port when they won flags.

maybe he was just not cut out for senior coach gig -

Did u not read the last part of what Trav said? Shit defensive coach. Can't have someone like that as Head Coach and u can't keep your ex-head coach on when u get a new one. Doesn't work that way. He has a great reputation as a development coach.

We also just hired a new defensive coach in Ross Smith.

...Or possibly Neil Craig?

Nah but all piss taking aside, at least give him the chance. A change of scenery is all that he may need. I think he did everything he could with our club and moved on

I think this is actually better than us getting Craig.

As the post above says,he was part of the Port and Essendon flags.

A different change in a club with an enormous postive outlook and passionate supporter base might rejuvenate Bailey.

I like this move.

He put together a pretty good list, seemed as though it was more the people from behind the scenes who were stuffing things up at Melbourne.

Great come back mate, your a bigger dud than Bailey. Results paint a picture and Bailey didn't deliver nothing.
So what has Eade delivered that makes you want him more than Bailey?

Always thought he was hard done by when the Dees sacked him. They were still in contention for finals FFS.

I don't understand why Craig is awesome but Bailey is a dud? Dean has seen pleanty of success as a assistant coach.

Pretty much what I said expecting some clowns to go bonkers about it.
None of us now what he was like as an assistant but having a look at who he was an assistant with and the time frames, he did a pretty good job of it.
I have no problem with getting people in who Dimma has had a working relation with in the past, important for the head coach to be able to trust his assistants and we will be getting more still and I'm sure they won't all be Port/Hawthorn/Essendon people.

I'm hoping this is what the case is. Heard when you guys got him he was considered a brilliant developer at Port, so if we have him in that kind of role it may be alright. Definitely don't want him near the backline :D

Yes im sure that is the reason these guys are getting jobs at the RFC. Im pretty sure Dimma and co know a lot more about these guys than you.

At the end of the day, the biggest head that will roll is Hardwick's if there is no improvement and Richmond have a shocking year. I'm not an assistant or ex coach basher, but merely voicing my opinion and you can either like it or lump it.

No offence but you're opinion seems a little ill informed.
He didn't cut it as the senior coach, but that doesn't take away from the success he has had as an assistant coach in the past as well as a development coach.
I'm actually pretty happy if he was to come.
