I should point out that I said after the GWS game (less than a month ago)

:p

Based on the evidence it was hard to draw any other conclusion, but I am happy to concede he has proven me wrong.

He has also shown a lot this year.
Once this board turns on a player everyone focuses on the negative. Same happened with Reid and Tipp.

I get what you are saying but sometimes people forget that this board has zero control over how a player performs or who gets selected.

So the board does control players

Shaw, reid, tippett now towers

Get on Jetta and Rohan for best on this week

I'm already on Jettas case. Nice to him all year but now we are not talking. Mind games ...

Kennedy has been shit, bringing in 30 possies a game is rubbish try for 40 !!

Towers showed hints of class against Freo ... he's obviously quick and has skill, and maybe it's just taken time for him to get enough confidence in himself ... really warmed to him the other day yet, oddly, I still don't see much in the other Jack, he's tough but still mostly looks lost to me.

with reid out, Towers has a big role to play, which is a worrying proposition. He's improved, but still has headlight moments in close. He and Rohan need to use there pace up forward to burn of a slow North defensive unit.

Jack was absolutely lost against Freo. But he's got a good mix of pace, skills (when he's composed, which until Freo he was improving every week), and fight.

I'm not convinced he'll make it, but I'm not convinced he won't either. He's in the slightly unfortunate position of wanting to play as an inside midfielder, but being more suited physically to an outside role. If he can bring the two together he'll be very handy.

Dean Towers. 2015 Norm Smith medalist

This has suddenly become a lot more plausible. We have to get there first, obviously. :p Good to see the hatred for him from everyone else has been quelled though,

In one of the articles earlier in the thread it said Horse & Harley had a heart to heart with him about his confidence... Apparently told him to stop reading big footy.

That would be my advice to any young player trying to establish himself

This is over the top, lets see how he goes this week

Surely if he can cop the criticism he did, he deserves to be credited for his recent performances? It seems being a pessimist is fine on this board, but optimism is over the top.

I was insane enough to make that prediction after the Hawthorn and West Coast losses. Surely would have to go down as one of the best calls in recent memory if it were to eventuate. :p

It won't.

Not with that attitude.

More referring to the fact that if we did win the grand final, I can think of several players who are more likely to win the Norm Smith than Towers :p

Well go back a month, if someone said "Dean Towers plays well in a final" then you probably would've met it with the same reply. ;)

Yeah, unfortunately he'll probably be robbed like LRT was in 2005.

That is the thing. Young people use the internet, young people visit forums and I know if I were a young AFL player I would go on bigfooty and I would read what people are saying about me. It is human instinct after all and it really isn't fair on Towers. I can easily imagine Towers confidence being shaken reading what a lot of people on this forum have said about him, as I can imagine the confidence of a lot of young AFL players have been shaken by bigfooty posters.

Well if Towers is reading BF he should know that according to BF:

Buddy is a waste of money
Tippett is a cancer (thank you ex supporters in SA)
McVeigh is a hack who just spends all day pointing
Goodes is a sniper
Kirk had no kicking ability
Pyke would never make it as a league footballer
Hall was a mental case
LRT was clumsy with no skills

And that's a list of coleman medallists, premiership captains, premiership players, and a dual brownlow medallist.

So on that basis I'm ready for Deano to now turn that frown upside down and become a superstar like all the other 'rubbish' we've had through the place over the years. :D
