It wasnt too long ago people were saying Biglands was going to lead our rucking division for the next 5 years.
Sometimes other teams put an increased value on bigmen, and for the right deal.

People **** me when they say we have the oldest list but they wouldnt think to look at the average age of those who played against the Saints.

I dont think we should throw in the towel yet.
The eight is a big possibility but there woont be many cellar dwellars this year.

We could be fighting for 8th spot agin 4&5 teams.

Believe we have conceded a flag attempt.
We will still be competitive whist blooding youngsters. Good signs for next year.
Hopefully we hold Watts back to next year.

I don't think Biglands will get you a first round pick. Ruckman are at premium but I wouldn't think anyone in their right mind will give you a 1st round draft pick for him so why trade him when there is no guarantee that we will get anything better than that.

Some encouraging signs from the youngsters and they are the ones that give us some hope.

I would give Watts a handfull of games this year to play next to Carey. He would really learn a lot from that experience. At least that way he will know a bit more of whats expected and would have some sort of idea going into next year.

Agree Biglands alone wouldnt give you a top 10 pick. But what about Biglands and a second round pick?
Or
Biglands and Ladhams? ( could be another equal value player)

With the game so fast these days, match day coaching by team mates is probably a thing of the past, unless Carey was going to teach by example on the field.
We both no thats not going to happen.

He's probably learning a heap at training and after training, when he can talk with Carey.

With Clarke most likely leaving at the end of the year, getting rid of Biglands would seem a strange decision, but that is not the case.

He makes stupid decisions, and while he tries hard, he is not ofconsistent AFL standard. So therefore, trading him would be a good option. Ladhams is similar to Biglands in which he is a good player, but not AFL level.

Trading them both could really offer some oppirtunities. The only problem is, would anyone want them???

McGregor and Burton would attract a lot of interest no doubt BUT we cannot afford to lose them. Kenny is our rock in defence and with smart retiring at the end of the year and Hart in the twilight of his career we need some experince.

Burton has brain fades but he is still a match winner.

Both of these players are regulars in our side and are in the 23-26 age group. Its the players from that age group that we should keep. There is no point in having a lot of gun youngsters in your side (down the track) but not having supporting "veternas" around them. If there is not enough experienced heads around you end up being like Geelong

Gary's contract should not be renewed.

Let in run dry until the end of 2004 and look for a new coach.

Clear out the Football Dept - Reid, Fantasia, Assistiant Coaches and get some fresh ideas into the club.

We need to be far more aggressive and address our problem ares in drafting and trading this year.

We have been far too weak and complacent esp last year . We need 2 big defenders, and other ruckmen and some gun midfielders.

We need to bring in long term players that can help us win finals.

There will be retirements and we also need to clear out the second and third stringers that have been around for a while.

Play to win (obviously) and take each week as it comes.

If a chance comes to debut a young bloke do it. Make sure they are in good form and they've earned it though.

Dont just play kids for the sake of playing kids.
Make sure the position he plays in genuinely suits them and dont throw em all out to the wolves.

When they do come in do the Blighty trick - tell em they have 3- 4 weeks to make the spot their own.

We will not trade Biglands unless we get a better ruckman in return. The way Biglands would get traded is if he is a part of the package that gets a better ruckman. Someone like Ottens

Don't forget Josh Krueger. Sure, he's more a CHF but I'm sure he would do well as a back up.

At 197cm, Fergus Watts could also really step to the plate in the ruck division.

I agree though, it is a stretch, but it could be a chance for Hudson to stand up. Krueger to back him up when Huddo is tried/injured, and perhaps the crows should pick up a top ruckman in this year's draft.

Look I agree, we need a blend of youth and experience.

Here I go back onto McGregor. We need a FB. Hentschell could be a very good CHB, Mcgregor in my opinion, is not strong enough in the body, or fast enough for FB.
CHF is not his go, so he is really not as flexible in positions as he should be.
Surely if we could trade him for a top 10 FB, you would have to consider it?

With regard to Burton, Bode, and Stenglein, we get carried away with how they get the ball, not what they do with it.
Wasn't that partly the issue with Mathew Connell, regularly getting 30+ disposals, but Blight was angry where he ran to get them, and what he did with them.

We are way too forgiving of this trio, for the quality of their disposals.

Watts is our long term CHF so that's a no-no!!!

Krueger will be more of a forward than a ruckman, although he could be the 3rd ruckman in case of emergency.

That still leaves us a ruckman short.

I know.

I dont wanna lose Mass but I feel that as a Victorian (who has a house over there) and can play he would be involved in any deal for a Vic based player. He'd be the easiest one to trade even for a draft pick out of that lot.

If Kruegers back is as bad as everyone is saying, his chances of being a CHF, are negligible.
We need top midfielders and a FB as a priority - just look on Ayres face as Gehrig took another chest mark in the goal square.

To get a Ruckman ( and we need quality), we need a top 10 pick, other than what we will have naturally.
But who do we trade?, and what is their value as a top 10 pick?.

Jerome, there is no way in hell someone will give you a top 10 pick for someone like Massie, Bode or Doughty even if they are thrown in as a combination.

I think all 3 are tradeable BUT at the right price (In cases of Bode and Massie).

Out of those 3 Massie is the one I would want to keep.
