27 goals in 11 coming back from a serious injury is a great return

If he can stay fit he will be the missing part of our forward line

How does he fit in when everyone is fully fit?

HF: Nicoski Darling Hill
FF: Cox Kennedy Lecras

He'd have to be outplaying Nicoski/Hill to have a chance to get a game.

The fact he's a genuine crumber as opposed to Nicoski/Hill who are mid sized is what's enticing about him. Lecras playing a similar style to Hill, and Nicoski coming back from a serious injury would have both under pressure to get a spot next year IMO

Someone in the best 22 still has to make room for him. I can't see Dick overtaking players like Masten Wellingham ASelwood Embley Smith Sheppard for a bench spot. Dick either replaces Nicoski or Hill. It will be interesting to see what the match committee do.

If dick is fully fit and firing i have him replacing hill in the 22. Lecras is the mid sized lead up forward who can play in the midfield. Lecras is better on the lead, better at ground level, as good defensively or better imo and much better through the midfield. So dick comes in as the specialist small forward / crumber.

Nico could go back to playing on the hbf :D

Do not want
Nico's speed and attack is what's of value to us. He's behind ash smith in terms of being a defender.

I'd assume he'll get a crack early but if he doesn't get into gear he could go behind wellingham, hill and dick. Not forgetting that lecca is to come in too!

Nico is a little bit surplus to needs IMO. He got goals because the crumbing opportunities were there. He's a quality player, but the fact he's not a natural forward yet he managed to snag 40 goals says as much about our need for a small forward than his ability.

A fully fit Brad will kick 35 - 40 goals in a strong Eagles team - I'd be willing to put a bit of money on that. If Nico can't come back strongly after his hammy injury, then dick should be shoved in his face place.

You're selling Nico short. His snapping and goal sense was first class in 2011.

I rate Dick highly, and I doubt the likelihood of Nico getting back to that level. His goal sense was good, clearly better than Hams and Hill at the crumbing role, but it helped that JK and Lecca were also playing well.

I think between Nico, Dicko and Murray, we have a good selection to choose from, hence my surplus to needs jibe.

I expect hill to be in the team. Yes we have a lot of people to come back but this year he was our number 2 goal kicking option. In the forward line when we wanted a goal kicked a lot of the time it was him, darling or nobody. There were helpers like cox, naita etc but those two were our true goal scoring forwards. Its a big drop from no. 2 forward to out of the team.

I agree with all of this but i think we might be getting a little bit ahead of ourselves with dick. Lets hope he gets through the pre-season uninjured and is performing well.

I would really like to see Dick and Hill in the same forward line, they complement each other very well and would be hard to match up on both with Hill being strong in the air and Dick on the ground, would be especially good if they can mismatch opponents because the player that goes to Dick will be too small to play on Hill and the player on Hill may not have the pace to play on Dick etc.

I would prefer those 2 if they are in form over Nico but Nico is probably more consistent than both so its probably unlikely.

IIRC quite a few people (me included) were annoyed at his "snap on goal at all costs" mentality. Also kicked plenty of behinds that year and burnt a few teammates in better positions in doing so.
I agree with EH in that playing land of the giants forward line really lended itself to a pure crumber, of which we didn't have at the time, and Nicoski took advantage of. I was always thinking how many goals/assists a Jeff Garlett or the like would have gotten in that forward line.

I would like Hill, Dick & Lecras to be in the forward line with only Dick being the permanent forward of the 3. Think both Hill & Lecras can spend time in the middle.

He still kicked 41.25 which is 62% accuracy.

People have forgotten just how good he was in 2011.

Sounds more like Lecca's 2011 than Nico's to me. Here's the 47 goals he kicked, watch how many times he could've passed to someone in a better spot. Now... we don't mind so much because these turned out to be goals, but I wonder how many times he did the same thing to teammates and then missed the shot.

Assuming Nicoski has no hang ups from his hamstring, surely he will be picked round 1.
