Nah but i think a pick in the 20's for Mcinnes would be good for us as i think he was pick in the late 30's...but there is a chance he could be developed into a CHB for us.

Nothing personal, but isn't this a contradiction? You say he is possibly a top 5 pick but no-one will nominate him in the first round?

Only those that finish below us on ladder can force is to use a first round pick.

If Fremantle finish above us and rate him highly and bid for him we're forced to use our next pick on him which would be round 2.

I think it's pointless speculation at the moment, who knows how Alec will develop over the next 12 months, how he'll sit in the scheme of things by November and who knows where we'll finish on the ladder?

Far easier to talk about our listed players and our list needs than kids 16 months out from their draft.

Sorry for the intrusion but just having a look at Fraser McInnes and the possibility he comes down to Melbourne for more forward opportunity considering you have a killer tall forward set up currently.

Seems he's out of contract (no real report on it) but also that many of you are hoping he gets groomed into a CHB much like Lachie Henderson. What would realistically get him to be traded? The only WA tall defender we have is Simon White who wouldn't come close to replacing Glass and Yarran/Garlett are too high a price IMO.

Yeah, pretty close TBH. Don't know if a few rounds upgrade is an equitable trade off for the development time we have put into him though. I am actually interested to see if he has any utility as a key defender/third tall.

The way Henderson is becoming a very effective forward the Blues may be chasing a KP back and another KP forward.

McInnes is interesting because we also have McGovern on our rookie list that is showing real promise as a KP forward as well so one area the Eagles do have reasonably covered is KP forwards, but get an injury or two and we will need that depth. Waiting in the wings we have;

1. Lycett - forward / ruck
2. McInnes
3. McGovern
4. Sinclair - forward / ruck

Supporting

1. Kennedy (thanks Blues)
2. Darling
3. Cox
4. Naitanui

I really want Darling to play off the HFF and use his running ability and open space then rest in a pocket for parts of quarters. Cox has 1 year left in him and does Glass at the most.

An injury to Kennedy and (Cox / Naitanui) all of a sudden we have a forward line of Lycett / Sinclair and McInnes / McGovern and Darling.

I don't think the Eagles will let any of them go.

Mitch Brown in a deal to land Yarran is more likely.

First rounder has to be off limits this year. I can't think of too many players that we have a realistic shot at that would be worth it, especially given the reports of midfield quality at the top end of the draft.

Because Yarran is a one trick pony? If Malthouse is causing him heartache i don't really want him TBH.

Yarran doesn't solve WC's biggest issue: the midfield, but he does somewhat fill a need if he's brought in to play as a HBF, for WC need speed and good disposal from someone in that role. Yarran's weakness when used in the HBF role is that he isn't great defensively, but if that can be trained into him, Josh Hill style, he'd be a winner in a HBF role. Given Smith and Brennan are both meh, Butler is slow, Waters can't kick to save himself, WC's second biggest need is for another quality HBF, IMO. Yarran, with some work put into him, could be that.

Bennell has looked the goods as a quick defender so far in the waffle, I'm keen to see how he would transfer it into the AFL. I hope he gets an opportunity to show this before the end of the season.
