Essendon defender Courtenay Dempsey will not be available for senior selection until further notice after failing to meet the standards and expectations set by the playing group and football club.

As a consequence, Courtenay will train with the club's VFL side until he consistently meets the professional standards required.

It's a pretty big loss for Essendon, as when fit and up and running, he's easily best 22 at Essendon and provides a heap of run from defence.

We all know alcohol(if that's what it was)is bad for you, but most sports still allow their players to have the occasional drink, the AFL is probably one of the most restrictive in this area.

Then again rules are rules if you sign up to something then you have to stick to it I suppose

Not disputing the punishment as he let the team down, but it is still difficult especially if he has been bought up where many of his friends drink.

Don't particularly care if players have the odd drink during the season, if it helps them relax and enjoy themselves.

Doing it when he's recovering from injury is the silly part.

yeah but its part of what you sign up for, why should an employee pay you 3,4,5 hundred k yer year for running around kicking a footy, when there are plenty of other kids who would kill for the opportunity. he he doesn't like the conditions, he can go back like the rest of us trendsetters, working a normal job where only a small percentage of people will crack even 100k per year

The onus is on you to prove that he's overrated. Personally, I haven't seen any evidence to suggest that he is.
