That Following the successful interstate football carnival, in 1933 a proposal by the NSWRL to amalgamate Australian football and rugby league was investigated and a report, with a set of proposed rules, known as Universal Football, was prepared by the secretary of the NSWRL, Harold R. Miller and sent to the Australian National Football Council. A trial game was held in secret, but the plans were never instituted

Can 3 players in Sweden or something be recognised as a football playing country?

Swedish_national_australian_rules_football_team.jpg

Has been played in Sweden since 1993 and currently has 400 players registered.

AFL is played in 70 countries around the world.
You mean Australian Rules Football is played in 70 countries. The AFL is a competition. You wouldn't say the EPL is played in 70 countries.

/nitpicking

It's not nitpicking. I should've said Australian Rules Football.

In 1945, Carlton were out of the top four for the entire year until the end of the final round (20) when they scraped into 4th to play finals. They then went on to win the premiership.

Related to this, the past five premiers were never out of the top eight during the season - the longest such sequence of consecutive premiers remaining in the top 4/5/6/8.

They were in unbelievable form winning their last nine games (including the GF) and become the first team in a long time to win without the double chance. They also won it with the worst ranked percentage in history, 7th.

I obviously wasn't there in 1945 but in their first final they played the Roos (who had not made a final in 20 years) who only scored 2.13 at 3QT and then they played Collingwood in the prelim and going by the match scores, the game was effectively over at 3QT but somehow they won the game by 10 points.

But it could be also due to fact that all the finals were played and Princess Park.

Kevin Sheedy played against Tim Watson while at Richmond, then coached Tim Watson.

He then coached Jobe Watson, and when GWS played Essendon he coached against Jobe Watson.

This is the first time this has ever happened.

Kevin Sheedy also coached against Tim Watson when Essendon played St Kilda in Rd 8, 1999 and Rd 12, 2000

Max Rooke kicked the first and last goals of the 2009 Grand Final.
Tom Lonergan kicked the first and last goals of the 2008 Grand Final. :(
Nick Malceski kicked the first and last goals for Sydney in the 2012 Grand Final

Some great facts are presented about the year 1945. Just for good measure I'm also aware that finalists from 1945 differed entirely from 1944 - surely that hasn't happened too often.

Finally, the Bloods did not win any finals matches between their grand final years of 1945 and 1996.

The also didn't return to the finals for 25 years.

Also in 1945 Carlton to my recollection are the only team in History to lose by 100pts or over and win the premiership in the some year. Essendon defeat Carlton by 100pts in round 3 that season.

Along the 1945 theme, in 1984 Fitzroy was the first side since Carlton in 1945 to have not spent any week in the top 5 until the completion on the final round. At the end of round 9, they were 1/8 and further at the end of round 16 were 5/11 before going on a charge to break into the 5 following a comfortable win over St Kilda in Round 22.

They ran out of steam in the first final, losing comfortably in the end to Collingwood despite the scores being close at 3/4 time.

I believe that is the last time a team has played finals having not been in the top 5/6/8 at any stage during the year.

Didn't Collingwood beat Geelong by 100+ in 2007 or 2008?

and was only 86 points.
But it does give Geelong 2008 the record of being the worst team ever as they had the highest average losing margin in a season.

That's a funny one and it was our only lose up until the GF can't imagine that having happened many times.
