With all of the stats tied into the year, it looks as though 1945 serves as a key moment in shaping 20th century footy - not unlike the political world. If only Marty McFly travelled there instead of 1955 and we would have had the trifecta.

Max Rooke kicked the first goal of the 2009 GF and only played 1 game the following season.
Same with Trav Varcoe, who kicked the first goal of the 2011 GF and only played 1 game the following season.

Let's hope that, if Geelong make the Grand Final, the opposition kicks the first goal.

The first 20 places for most tackles in a season were recorded within the last 6 seasons (2008 - 2013)

Out of these Andrew Swallow has 3 places, Jude Bolton has 2, Brett Kirk has 2 and Domenic Cassisi has 2; showing that nearly half these places are held by just four players.

Most people know the saints famously won their only gf by a single point. Less known is that from the inception of the VFL they only won 2 games in the first 6 seasons (1897-1902). And in what was regarded as just as miraculous an event at the time, their first ever win in game one of their 4th season was ALSO just by a single point over Melb (68-67).
This game was actually a draw at the time. St Kilda appealed the result to the VFL and Melbourne were stripped of a behind that they had kicked after the three-quarter-time siren.

They didn't win another game until round 12 1901, more than a year later. There was not another incidence of a result being overturned on protest for more than 100 years, until round 5 2006 - the Sirengate controversy.

Are there any coaches regarded as legends in coaching that have not won a Premiership?

The closest might be Len Smith, brother of Norm. Said to be a brilliant tactician, and wrote his own detailed coaching manual. Not sure how much his reputation may have been embellished following his tragic early death, however Richmond's drought-breaking 1967 premiership is often attributed in part to Smith's ideas and methods.

Coach of Fitzroy's Team of the Century.

John Northy would also be another one coached Melbourne to concecative finals appears from 1987-91 including the 1988 Grand Final. As well as being on of only two coaches in the past 30 years to coach Richmond in a finals series reaching the Preliminary Final in 1995. also coached Brisbane Bears to a preliminary Final in 1996 as well as a finals appears with the Brisbane Lions inaugural season in 1997.

Sympathy votes?

James Kelly was the only Geelong player on the weekend to play the game with both of his socks pulled up.

In the same game Matthew Lobbe was the only player for Port Adelaide to play with his socks up.

From 1881 to 1921, Essendon was not based in Essendon, but in East Melbourne.

The East Melbourne Cricket Ground was located on the corner of Wellington and Jolimont parades, not far from the MCG and Punt Road. Essendon trained and played their home games there until 1921, when the ground was closed and they moved to Windy Hill.

The ground also hosted the first ever interstate match in 1879, between Victoria and SA.

That is correct but did you know that in 1975 Steven Spielberg's mechanical shark that he used in Jaws was not working for most of the film that Steven himself wanted to can the film but studio executives persuaded him to keep going as they had already invested a fair bit of money into the movie already.

It's the reason why you don't see the shark till the end of the film and not because of any intended dramatic effect which of course was a result of it, adding tension and suspense to the film and scenes. This accident as such caused the film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars (it won three) and was the first film to break the $100 million mark and coined the word Blockbuster for the film industry.

Also, Hawthorn become the 9th team to finish the H&A season with the best attack, defence, % and on to of the ladder but lose the grand final, (this has happened 12 times, Collingwood in 2011 been the last). North become the first team ever to win the premiership as third on the ladder and 3rd in % and did so again 77' and this never happened again.
