I think innacuracy kept us in the game. Neitz and Davey were well beaten today. I hope it doesnt kick start another losing streak like it did last year. We have the saints next week and they absolutely thumped us this time last year. I cant bare to watch that again...

apparently Hayes is out so that helps.

We had a :D:D:D:D forward structure all day, it was just highlighted more in the last quarter. Very dissapointing effort. Bruce's miss was the turning point.

It's a tough ask to be coming back and facing St.Kilda and dare I say it, Collingwood when you're avoiding a slide. Let's just hope they can show some heart and claw their way back into the upper half of the 8.

That last quarter seemed as if we only had 12 guys on ground, 6 in defence, and 6 in the midfield. Every kick into the forward 50 seemed to either hit the deck, or get marked by Panda. Disappointing to see that, considering we stuck with them for most of the day.

Eagles killed us for most of the day and had it not been for so many missed shots at goal (including about 3 posters) the result wouldn't look any where near as close.

In any case we seemed to try for most of the game and just came up short with too many players not having much influence on the game.

The big question is how the next few weeks will pan out. Can we bounce back or will it be another losing streak?

Was it just me or did Bartram and C. Johnson play blinders?

However, two youngsters putting their hands up aren't gonna win us games.

I don't think Neitz was necessarily beaten, he was feeding a lot of ball into our forward 50, leading up the ground, and he was in defence for awhile too. Wasn't his best, but wasn't all that bad in MOP.

Pickett aside from the run in the middle at the start of the first quarter, did almost nothing, same with davy.

I was impressed with whelan's tackling, along with Carrol's game - he is seems to be on fire. Brock was steady and Robbo did well considering his less than desirable physical condition.

We just let the likes of Cousins, Kerr and Judd run free way too often - we're not an accountable side. I can't remember the amount of times I swore at the TV when Cousins ran down the right wing with no Melbourne player in sight.

All in all, it was a fustrating game but there were positives to take out of it. How good Melbourne is will be determined on our response in the next 2-3 weeks.

The forward set-up was just :D:D:D:D. Why the hell were Dunn and Jamar not seen up forward after the first quarter? Sheer stupidity on Daniher's behalf if you ask me.

Bartram and CJ were the only positives. The rest was predictable. Went missing when the heat was on, but at least we can justify the last quarter collapse by saying it was against WC at Subiaco.

Well it was...

A 22 point loss against the Eagles at Subiaco is respectable. We had our chances to win the game but West Coast proved to be too good.

Again, we played a team who were 7-1, at a ground where no Victorian team had won in 4 years. To even get close was a good effort.

Was very impressed with our tackling and attack at the footy.

Major negative:

- Miller - I think he should be dropped quite frankly. Has been horrible all year, can't take an overhead mark, fumbles, can't spoil, turns the ball over by foot, doesn't kick goals... Needs a run at Sandy.

Yeah i dont like where miller is headed. he has always been talked up, even talked about being the next captain, but i havent ever seen an outstanding game from him, let alone what hes done this year which is nothing.

It's no wonder why though. Daniher keeps :D:D:D:Ding around putting him in the backline after being our CHF all year. Pick a spot and keep him there. That should be CHF.

Spot on.

Play him as a CHF or turn him into a permanent defender.
I actually think our backline looks good when he's in there.

Either way, make up your mind and have the balls to stand by your decision. This indecisiveness is surely killing his ability to get into a match.

For fecks sake can today's fiasco involving the kick-ins (Johnstone x4 + Miller) finally encourage somebody to do something about this. We haven't been able to kick a ball in from a behind consistently for years and it $hits me up the wall.

I laughed so hard when that happened. Maybe it was the booze...
TJ stuffed it up like 4 times, which just told me it was not our day. How f'ing hard is it to peel off and find a target? And then bloody Milsy gets the ball and runs over the line, kicking it straight into a WC player.
Could it be that Whelan is the only person in a Melbourne jumper who knows how to kick out? It looks so simple, if only Daniher and his marry men worked on some tactics!

Either way, that was two minutes I'll never get back. :o

I don't think it was totally TJ's fault. The boys were scared out there today, nobody was offering leads out of the backline. It was blatantly clear there was a psychology problem.

marns and all star7, u surely can't blame miller's disgraceful opening to the season on daniher. he has only been moved to the backline because he couldn't find it at centre half forward and has occasionally been asked to hold down an opposition key forward because we don't have the strength. he is not in our best 18 and is only in there 4 structure. he has no football brain whatsoever. we can't afford to play him at centre half forward. or anywhere but sandy for the moment.

What do you mean "occasionally been asked"? It's been almost every match since the start of the season that he's played down back. The guy played at CHF all year last year (bar one or two matches) in his first full season, and this year he is moved back practically every game. People forget that he is still young, only 22. How do you develop a young guy like Miller into one good key position player. He's not like say, a Lance Whitnall who gets moved forward and back, Lance has been around for years now and understands what's going on. Miller needs more time in ONE position to be any use to us. It's no wonder he can't find it.

Is it possible that getting a role in the leadership group at such a young age has had an effect on his form? 'Melbourne vice captain Brad Miller' sounds a bit wierd to me I spose. He can only improve, I remember he played a blinder last season in his return from suspension against Richmond. Hopefully he'll turn it around, can't rely too heavily on Dunn yet I reckon.

Umm no, he was moved to the backline because we had no Nicho, Biz or Ferguson, and we still don't.

He is learning the defensive craft, and I rather him in the side over the above three.
Fergs and Biz are alright, but don't have the muscle. While Nicho is Nicho, and should never play AFL again.
Our backline has been good since Miller went down there and we've conceeded less than 100 points on most occassions. Enough said.

He needs more time to learn to play in defence, if Dunn is going to play at CHF. Either way, we need to give him time to cement just the one position.

Came here to find out why Dunn didnt get any game time after first quarter? Injured? Will Matt Bate come back into the team? Need both of these guys firing for my Dream Team!
