I see a Cobras 2's player received 8 weeks from the tribunal last night.

"Using abusive, insulting or obscene language towards or in relation to an umpire"

That must have been some tirade

Happens more than most think. One shouldn’t lose sleep over being called a cheat especially when you can March a team down the field with 50m penalties. They’ll either shut up or have many goals kicked against them.

I remember 8-10 years ago a Cobras reserves umpire belted one of cobras players late in game as cobras player was whinging whining, so ump belted him and never been seen or heard of since!
Didn't even front tribunal!

Thats one thing (as an umpire) Ive NEVER been called zeroseven. ****ing idiot was the call last year! he got 3 weeks after he ran into me and told me to get out of his ****ing way!

I heard they called out the umpire in question for making a racist remark to one of their players. Tribunal deliberated for over 3 hours and the result was no penalty for the ump, 6 weeks for two volunteers who made a stand to call out racism.

Settle, petal. There was a lot more to it than that. And the umps had a lengthy coaching session this week on abuse and the consistent handling thereof. The message has been delivered to clubs loud and clear in the last couple of weeks by the various leagues (including VAFA) so I'd expect things to be more civil for a while. Hopefully.

OTP, no need with the names! Please do however look at 07 commentary (ongoing) which borders on abuse of umpires with assumption of cheating!
