dixon down back....

During the last intraclub practise match on friday.... Ben Dixon was trialed in the backline... personally i thought he looked pretty good down there, and used his skills to move it quickly and accurately out of defence. In some ways the half-forward/forward pocket position is a hard one to play and you often are left out of the play for long periods....given the skills that dicko possesses i would think the half back flank would be perfect for him.... enable him to run straight thru the lines and provide the extra dash out of defence.... of course this is purely speculation and he will probably play all season as a forward....

what does everyone else think about a position move for young dicko....

DR, i reckon with a reasonable run with injuries our backline is pretty settled, and Dicko can be a 50+ goalkicking half forward who are hard to come by. The nature of his position means he will always be a little inconsistent, thats why we nees multiple goalkicking options which i believe we have now. So my opinion is leave him up forward, but who knows?

What a half-back line though we would have if Dicko did go down there.....Dicko, Croad and Radar....I think a few teams would give their right leg to have a line up like that with the flexibility to move them elsewhere should the need arise.

I have reckoned for the last 2 years that Dicko should have been given a run in midfield more often. I also agree that he could be good as a sweeper type off 1/2 back.

Half forwards that can kick goals in a hurry like Dico are rare. Id rather leave him down forward for most games even if hes having a quiter spell. Hes the type that can kick two or three in ten minutes.

One thing we dont need is more half backs. What with Dent at the club now, why would they even bother

I agree, Dicko is of much better use in the forward line, and with such talent in the backline he'll never get a run down back anyway......

Who would you ditch to move him back???

Actually, ClarenceGirl, you're halfway right in my opinion. You wouldn't have to ditch Croad, simply move him forward. But I think Dixon is better suited to a wing position, where his speed and accuracy could be put to better use. I've seen him play some of his best footy sweeping down from wing to the half forward flank. He can push back as a further defensive option, or push a little further forward to become a goal scoring option. I know he is a pretty good shot at goal from distance, and that he seems to relish being involved in the action rather than cooling his heels waiting for the ball to come down the forward line.

From what I hear about the Launceston experience our back line looks in good form already, with Hay and Rawlings our linchpins there. The forward line probably only needs running in, as the talent is on tap, but that's where we seemed to fall down, especially in the first half. And once again, the midfield went AWOL. That's to be expected in this match, I suppose, what with the workload shouldered by Chick and Bowyer last year. But if Crawford really is taking up where he left off last year, as I witnessed in the intra club game, and from the indications in Launceston, that is not good news. I hope McPharlin is the real thing. That'll solve a whole lot of quandaries.
