Do Collingwood need to enter a rebuild phase?

Seriously no one other than a few Collingwood supporters sees that group as a bunch of C Grade players.

They can play a role at best but only with everything in Collingwoods favour.
What group?
Are you talking about our young players? If so, no one seams to have seen them play to make a judgement call on them.

Most are struggling at VFL level at this stage. Then the few games they do play they’re basically bits and pieces players at best.
Not sure midfield with Long starting worries many clubs.

Well Long was a starting midfielder for 2025 and he, and the Pies, went ok.

N.Daicos, Pendles, DeGoey, Long and McReery were our main starting midfield combo in the QF against Adelaide.

You swap out Pendles for J.Daicos, and that is a pretty solid starting midfield combo for 26-27.

Our KP spots are the worry.

MCReery is not long term mid either is DeGoey
McReery was used through the midfield in 25 finals.

And not much point pontificating post 2027 as all teams lists change by 5-10 players each year, so talking around 20 different players who may be on the Pies 2028 list.

Of the Pies 2023 premiership list, 22 players who aren't on our 2026 list.

But supposedly we haven't been turning over the list? It is why the majority of the rebuild threads are stupid.

What's mid or long term?

In 2023, amongst Collingwood's 10 most important players in the finals series were:
B. Hill
N. Daicos
D. McStay
T. Mitchell
D. Cameron
J. Daicos

5 of whom weren't on our list at the end of the 2019 season, and the jury was out as to whether J. Daicos was going to make it until his brother joined him on the list...

You’ve been turning it over slowly yes but with older bodies like Membrey that are near the end.

Instead of drafting 18 year old highly rated kids with "potential" like Essendon have done with Cox, Perkins, Reid, Tsatas, Hobbs etc.

We have instead brought in a dozen mature players who can actually play AFL since 2021.

But yes, Essendon results have proven it is much better to have the potential talents on the list over guys who can actually play AFL footy.

Bigfooty where it is better to be a development list with potential, then actually watch your side win finals with a mature list.

That’s fine you’ve added them to a list using multiple early picks that included
Pendles
Sidebottom
Elliot
Howe
Miochek
Cox
WHE
Crisp
Michell

Etc

those blokes are either gone or on the downhill slope

Frampton Lipinski etc are exposed even more

And where did
Howe
Mihocek
Cox
WHE
Crisp
Mitchell

Come from in the first place, and how much trade capital was required to get them?

But thanks for helping prove our point (and against yours).

And Hill
And Perryman
And Houston....
But no, the smart thing to do back in 2021 would have been to add 18 year old kids with talent and potential the list.

And it is again the same thing we should do again in 2025, we have veterans retiring and so need 18 year olds with potential instead of targeting mature players.

If we don't it means we have the worst looking u23 group going so least potential talent on the list, a horrible outcome for those who like to project 4-5 years into the future in pretend scenarios of which teams might be good in 4-5 years.

??
We traded for Howe, WHE, Crisp and Mitchell.
Cox and Mihocek were speculative mature additions.

The only highly rated kids taken with early picks we used we Pendles and Sidey.
Frampton Lipinski etc are exposed even more
Parker and Steele should benefit immensely from being exposed to finals footy in Adelaide this year. And watching how professionals like Pendles go about preparation and recovery would also be great for their development...

A much worse scenario is going the Essendon route and leaving a group of 20 year old kids exposed to 10 goal beltings most weeks, and surround them with me first senior players who don't want to be there.
