Power principle - sad documentary to be honest...

"A gripping, deeply informative account of the plunder, hypocrisy, and mass violence of plutocracy and empire; insightful, historically grounded and highly relevant to the events of today.
This documentary is about the foreign policy of the United States. It demonstrates the importance of the political economy, the Mafia principle, propaganda, ideology, violence and force.
It documents and explains how the policy is based on the interest of major corporations and a tiny elite to increase profits and the United States governments own interests in maintaining and expanding it’s imperialistic influence.
Inside the United States this has been made possible with a propaganda of fear for the horrible enemies like the Soviet Union, Communists and so on and a love for “free markets”, “democracy”, “freedom” and so on.
Externally (and increasingly internally) this has caused massive poverty and suffering, genocide, war, coups, crushed unions and popular movements and environmental destruction."

There is another big doco thread, without scanning this entire thread I would recommend:
The Iceman: Confessions of a Mafia Hitman

Just watched it, brilliant documentary, this guy is the definition of a stone cold killer, you can see the evil in his eyes.....no remorse at all. Thanks for the reccomendation, I enjoyed it.

Read the book. Seriously chilling in it's casual indifference towards the snuffing out of friends, strangers, innocent and not so innocent acquaintances. Ben Medolson's character in Animal Kingdom drew certain parallels with Kuklinsky's story, I thought. Inhuman in the sheer lack of empathy for their fellow man.

The definitive Kennedy assassination documentary is JFK: The Jim Garrison Tapes.

I'm a Nixon/Watergate nut, so I also highly recommend the PBS documentary just called 'Watergate' (i've been unable to find a torrent of it yet, but its on YouTube as a 30-part series). The best political documentary i've ever seen.

The History Channel docos on Nixon, Kennedy and the Cuba Missile Crisis are also top-tier.

this is amazing, im 5 parts in, Liddy is the funniest craziest son of a bitch ever :D

Currently near the end of The World at War, absolutely brilliant documentary, and I wanted to know if you guys could recommend a good doco on WWI and possibly the Berlin Wall?

Not sure if anyone has recommended The Ambassador in here but for those interested in international affairs it delves into areas you would have never seen before. The murky world of diplomacy, diplomatic immunity and corruption in Central Africa is something that goes unjustly ignored. It was remarkable to watch the protagonist waltz his way into a high-ranking diplomatic position through the back door - highly illegal but equally fascinating.

The same guy did The Red Chapel where he runs around North Korea in a faux-comedy troupe.

No legal way to get your hands on it online. The regular sources will have what you seek though - make sure you get one with subtitles - most of it is in English but there's some scenes in French.

As a lover of 20th century history particularly World War I and II stuff what are the must watch doco's about them? I read on the first couple of pages about The World at War which is apparently quite good. What are some legal ways of getting that as I cannot be bothered downloading something for weeks?

WE ARE LEGION: The Story of the Hacktivists takes us inside the world of Anonymous, the radical "hacktivist" collective that has redefined civil disobedience for the digital age. The film explores early hacktivist groups like Cult of the Dead Cow and Electronic Disturbance Theater, then moves to Anonymous' raucous beginnings on the website 4chan. Through interviews with current members, people recently returned from prison or facing trial, writers, academics, activists and major players in various "raids," the documentary traces Anonymous' evolution from merry pranksters to a full-blown movement with a global reach, the most transformative civil disobedience of our time.
