I used the word 'foundation' for a reason. The foundation around which the current Collingwood team is built are Wakelin, Johnson, Fraser, Rocca, Burns, O'Bree, Didak, Lockyer, Holland & to a lesser extent Rhyce Shaw & Presti. These are the players with a number of years in the system who provide the experience, harder bodies & finals know-how to enable the younger players you have named to 'learn on the job'. Remove 5-6 of these experienced players from the Collingwood list permanently & you are looking at a totally different team dynamic. That is where Carlton are at to this time.

you are 100% correct
all the teams mentioned (hawthorn, essendon, collingwood) have a very strong group of solid bodied, established players that have been in the system for 5-7 years.
This helps their young players develop around them.
Carlton has struggled due to poor recruiting and penalties to have these experienced, big bodied guys in our side.
we are really going to struggle later on in the year as our young guys struggle with their smaller framed bodies so if we don't get a few wins in the first 8-10 games, we may be looking at the priority pick again.

Of course it sucks, but it's all part of the cycle, I guess... It's our turn to be in a slump, a slump that we are slowly dragging ourselves out of to regain the spot at the top of the ladder, rightfully sh*tting on those below us:thumbsu:.

Does it hurt anyone else to see teams like Essendon and Collingwood, even Hawthorn, whom were down with us over the past 5 years, excelling in Round 1? while we still unfortunately sit through and wait for our players to mature.

It didn't hurt as much on Thursday night, in comparison to how i feel now watching Hawthorn demolish Melbourne and Essendon throw everything they have at the Kangaroos and make themselves look pretty bloody good.

When will our time finally arrive that we can do this to other teams? and have the critics drooling? I always feel like we're going nowhere, even though we are.

I'm so sick of waiting, but to me it feels like we may be waiting a while longer.

C'mon Blues!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

It's funny how all Carlton supporters were talking about how good they are and round one was going to be an easy win.

I found so much pleasure in watching the worst team of the 2000's lose again to the mighty Tigers.

Maybe next time you should not start talking so much crap before you actually beat a side.

Brett Ratten is a disgrace as well. 0 from 8 i wonder how much longer he can stay coach for with such a didgracefull record.

speaking of the death march, we're out of drumsticks and was hoping we could borrow a couple of your wooden spoons to play the drums with as we only have one and thought that you might be kind enough to give us one or two, don't worry you'll get it back at the end of the year:thumbsu:

Actually not a 'death march'.

Its the 'Burlack song' popularly known as 'song of the Volga boatmen'. In Tsarist times the 'Burlacks' pulled barges along the Volga river from the banks with long ropes. With every heave they would sing "Ey uhnyim" (Russian) or "Yo Heave-ho (English mistranslation)".

My father is Russian (Siberia) and my mother is also Russian (Volgograd). We were always Carlton people because of Jessa - "The first Russian into space".

Russia is an enduring survivor - powerful and strong - like the Burlacks pulling the boats.

I have always resented how a no history franchise club like Fremantle chose to take a cherised symbol of an epic nation.

Brilliant! Quite an education you've given me. Am I overstepping the mark if I suggest Jezza is actually Ukrainian again now the states have their autonomy back?

Are you aware that out of the 12 experienced coaches that started this season Wallace sits 11th in winning % ??? and at RFC he has a worse record than both your previous coaches in Frawley and The Geish!!

so to quote you again (but with better grammer)...how much longer can he stay coach with such a didgracefull record??

Superb question!

Depends on your opinion. More history: the Russ nation, language and culture stems from Ukraine. The first Russian capital was Kiev. Later the Russ spread north. Soon Moscow grew large and challenged for the new capital city. The Ukraine at that time was known as "old Russia" or "Little Russia". Eventually Peter the great founded St Petersburg and made it capital. A little bit like creating Canberra to settle between Melbs and Sydney. By now the name "Ukraine" stuck--- which is a Russ word literally meaning "Outskirt". So Ukraine literally became "the outskirts of Russia". By now there were differences emerging in the language etc. There is an ongoing debate about whether the 'countries' should remain separate.

Whether Ukie or Russ --- same roots!
