I was really impressed with seeing The Blonde Bomber, Sam Davidson, for the first time. He certainly gets around the ground. Luckily we got there earlier than last year and I was able to see Bont's goal, the first of the game. And I figure if someone who doesn't follow footy and notices Rory Lobb's marking, he' deserving of a mention. It is a pleasure watching Sam Darcy. Whenever the ball got near to him, I held my breath in anticipation. And finally, Tim English deserves praise for his effort today.

I look forward to seeing us beat the Crows next month. Never forget PF 1997. Never.

A good Sunday afternoon out at Marvel for the footy. Very good crowd of 38K for our home game which is great.

We put in another professional performance against a poor side currently in the Tigers. Certainly great to be banking the wins.

Marcus Bontempelli our captain was back to his very best. Loved that 2nd quarter in particular from him. Sam Darcy is just an unbelievable talent and was great again today. Rory Lobb has been great down back and is doing great things. Matt Kennedy was a great get, Carlton lost a very good player there. Hope Trelaor will be ok and not out for too long.

Josh Dolan and Cooper Hynes showing some great signs and I was impressed with Sam Davidson game today.

The challenges will come over the next few weeks now starting with the Swans on Friday night then North back at Marvel then the Crows at Marvel and Lions in Brisbane.

We see how it plays out but tonight just celebrating a great win.

Go Bulldogs!!

Sam Darcy, 21 years old

#1 in the AFL for Contested Marks per game
#1 in the AFL for Marks Inside 50 per game
#3 in the AFL for Goals per game (Hogan and Cameron ahead)
#3 in the AFL for Score Involvements per game (Bont and Richards ahead)

Keeping in mind these averages also include the St Kilda game where he was subbed out in the first quarter. He would be #1 for Score Involvements if you excluded that game. It's hard to conceive how unstoppable he'll be in the prime of his career

He misses seven games and he’s only one goal behind Naughton in the club goalkicking (25th overall).

Just needs a 23 game season and he’ll pluck a Coleman.

This is as big of a compliment I can give a footballer, Ed Richards does some things that remind me of Gary Ablett junior.

Sadly Naughton, and VDM, were copping an absolute pasting from a couple of 'supporters' in our area.

I hate this. Nuffies who pay for a ticket and think they can go ahead and bag out our oen players at the ground... One of the reasons I prefer watching games from home for the most part.

L1 Area 19?

I had to tell the bloke behind me to calm down a couple of times as he was chirping on about both these players. Disappointing given they were both trying hard but clearly just off a little bit.

The thought of a 27 year old Sam Darcy is frightening. Best forward prospect since Buddy, although very different players.

Maybe it’s just me, but I ****ing love cheering for the fringe players. Gimme a signature from Gardner, McNeil, Garcia, Baker, etc. There’s something so satisfying about seeing a battler do well - they’re not out there saving lives, it’s really not something that people deserve to be abused over if they make an error. **** the people who taunt their own team

Onnly negative for me is that I wish we flew the flag for Timmy a bit more. Copped more then a few very late hits.
I saw a couple of hits to his head, concerning considering his concussion history.

I saw a couple of hits to his head, concerning considering his concussion history.
I've been wondering lately whether the head treatment that English is getting from opponents is deliberate.

That's not to say that opponents are deliberately trying to concuss him. It's just that any observer of the Dogs over the last year or so would have notice how much English went into his shell when he was recovering from a series of concussions. He would duck his head, drop overhead marks, or not even go for them. He seemed hesitant in the physical contests. We all saw it and many here commented on it. No criticism of him for it. It would take a lot of guts just to go out there at all if your neurologist told you not to get any head contact if you want to avoid CTE or other post-concussion effects for the rest of your life.

So maybe I'm imagining it knowing Timmy's concussion history, but he seems to cop regular heavy treatment in aerial and rucking contests. Could opponents be trying to fire a few shots across his bows? Not necessarily to make deliberate head contact, but just to make him conscious of a heightened risk in the hope of forcing him back into his shell? Things like clumsy spoils or clattering into his back in the marking contest.

It has been noticeable that as Timmy has gradually regained confidence he has been playing games that are getting better by the week. So he would rightly be identified as one of the main dangers for opponents. It would be a low tactic but it wouldn't surprise me if there was some intent to intimidate because of the past history.

Nah, L1, 36. Carried on about Naughton's fumble in one play, no acknowledgement of his repeat efforts straight after, and getting the ball out to a team mate and blocking for him. Criticism of VDM was laughable - it was in between 2 runs along our side where he kicked it deep into f50.

Then there was the Richmond chap behind us with his Bulldogs gf/wife, using seats usually occupied by 2 Bulldogs supporters, who whinged about every bloody passage of play. Every single one! I was quite sick of hearing him, every time Ed or Bont or Kennedy, etc broke through tackles, yelling "he took him on, holding the ball!", when the tackle attempt failed to do anything to ****** or dispossess them.

I know everyone has a degree of one-eyed views at the footy, both ours and oppo supporters, but this guy was one of the worst I've heard in 55 years. Two identical plays by our player and theirs, and he'd call for completely opposite decisions. He would leave the collective umpiring whingeing posts on here for dead.

Anyway, was a solid, workmanlike win, against a fairly weak opposition, but happy to get out of it relatively unscathed - hoping Treloar and JOD are OK.

Was really hoping for Lobb to repeat his Mason Cox accidental deflected full force punch to Lynch's jaw. Alas, maybe next time...

Was doing a bit of light reading on the Tigers board.

One poster highlighted that the reason they are losing is the lack of experience/number of kids playing. Seems pretty self-explanatory, it’s no secret they are in the midst of a treacherous rebuild.

He/she stated that today they had 9 players with 40 games played or less.

Today we had 7 players with 40 games played or less in:
Darcy
JOD
Freijah
Davidson
Buku
Dolan
Hynes

That number grows to 8 if Sanders had played. (I highly doubt that changes the result)

We even have Buss, Sellwood and Jaques waiting in the wings, who a lot of posters (including myself) see having a future at AFL level, maybe even as soon as this season. Cleary, who has played a large chunk of the season is also sitting on 17 games.

If a couple of the tight losses vs Top 8 teams had gone our way, we’d be sitting comfortably in the Top 4 with a favourable run to end the year. The fact is we are rebuilding on the run, and the club deserves a lot of credit for some of the excellent performances we’ve seen this year, whilst also blooding a litter of young pups.

Bear in mind, this is without Bont, Darcy, Treloar, Weightman and Jamarra for large chunks of the season. Let’s all appreciate these wins more, because there will be a time where we can no longer take these games for granted.

Go Dogs.
