Who did Hawthorn have out of there best side.
Rioli, Bateman, Burgoyne, and Gilham. Its not like they only had half there side out there just my opinion but had most of there big guns there. Roughead, Mitchell, Hodge, Franklin.

Why would their odds be slashed after 1 NAB Cup game against an undermanned Hawks outfit?

I`ve backed them to win both. You could`ve got $6 during the week for the nab, or backed them earlier in the summer for much better than that. They are now into $2.50. For the big one they are still $7 which imo is enourmous value.

Anyone who doesn't notice form in the NAB cup should not comment on football.

You can't win a real premiership in March (yes I'm aware it's February). It only matters if you win when it counts and I personally don't see where the Bulldogs improvement will come from. Sure, Big Bad Barry booted 3 in 13 minutes on an undersized KPD but once he plays against other sides with bigger defenses I think he'll struggle. One on one Barry will win 90% of the time, it's on the lead that the Bulldogs will be hoping him to make the biggest difference to their structure. Speed and reach will be Hall's downfall.

Renouf, Guerra, Osbourne & Young would all play in their best team as well.

Rioli is our best player so that is a given.

Bateman is easily better than all bar one or two Dogs.

The third is a stretch I agree.
Haha, you had a weaker team last night but don't try and overrate those who were missing as an excuse.

Cooney, Higgins, Boyd, Lake, Morris, etc.>>Bateman

You rate Rioli as your best?

Bulldogs had no Johnson Williams and Minson would all play in Hawthorns best side, then there was Hall who played a little over a half Harbrow a half and Eagleton a half, so still think the dogs had a bit in reserve and we still smashed you by goals so if the god arnt a top 4 side like some people say Hawthorn must be missing the 8. as for all them in our best side, Rioli yes Burgoyne fully fit yes Bateman probably and maybe Young thats about it.

I give you Rioli. Bateman....phhht....good player, nothing more.

Just off the top of my head I'd take the following before him;
Cooney
Lake
Boyd
Gilbee
Morris
Higgins
Murphy
Harbrow

I guess it's a question of whether winning the NAB Cup will help or hurt the Dogs. Just speaking from experience of my team, the first piece of silverware I saw Geelong win was the 2006 NAB Cup. The players celebrated long and hard, as the perception was that the curse had finally been broken (including pre-season comps, they'd lost about eight grand finals since the last flag). They proceeded to steamroll their first two opponents, then c**p the bed for the rest of the 2006 home and away season.

With the Dogs, their hoodoo relates to preliminary finals. Along with Richmond and Fremantle, they are one of three teams that I've never seen in a grand final and their drought goes back the longest (1961?). No-one would say that they have been as unsuccessful as Richmond or Freo in the past 20-25 years, but for a team to make the finals pretty consistently over that time and lose six preliminary finals, well I get the feeling that they will need to crush the opposition to finally win one (similar to Geelong in 2007). How they will react in a grand final is anyone's guess, because they haven't been there for two generations.

But let the record show that if Geelong were to stumble in 2010, I wouldn't begrudge the Bulldogs (or Saints) a flag. They'd be popular winners.

Ahh I love the NAB Cup, everyones a winner. 3/4 time last night all the Doggies supporters were buzzing, Hawthorn supporters were all shrugging shoulders rolling out the "it's only the NAB Cup" line (which is true).

It was great to see the Dogs play with such a fierce intensity, the pressure they put Hawthorn under last night was incredible considering we are still only in February. Reality is though a slightly undermanned Dogs side smashed an even more undermanned Hawks side in a practice match, means bugger all, hopefully we can hold that intensity for the entire year.

I didn't say you could, all I mentioned was form.

Leading forwards was never our problem, our problem has always been not having a forward who could take a strong mark in a contest, if thats what Barry provides that solves our problem.

Then you have a problem sir....Bazza hasn't taken a pack mark since 2005. But he will be a handy lead-up forward if he stays fit/sane.
