G'day Catters,

I posted this elsewhere. I think it would be a shame if the potential of the broadcast isn't capitalised on on Friday night.

I've checked the TV guide for my local area, the Riverina in NSW, and the match isn't scheduled here yet. The guide does have an 11:15 slot marked 'to be announced' which I realise is often code for 'we're deciding whether we'll broadcast the AFL'.

I've fired an email off to Prime. It's pasted below. If anyone can help me out by copying and pasting it to an email and sending it yourself that would be awesome. You might have to edit here and there if something isn't right for you, but any help from you folks would be great:)

The email address is:
primetv@primetv.com.au

Incidentally, Kade Klemke is from here. I'm hoping he gets a guernsey on friday night.

Cheers all! :D

Hi,
I live in the Riverina and am a keen AFL fan. I was alarmed to learn this afternoon that the NAB Cup round 1 match between Essendon and the Western Bulldogs is not scheduled to be televised. I would like to add my voice to the chorus of complaint against this decision.

The broadcast of this match is a terrific opportunity for Prime to show its support for victims of the recent bushfire disaster in Victoria, by taking the opportunity the broadcast gives to appeal to a wider audience for help, lest apathy about helping during this time should begin to prevail. This appeal should include viewers outside of Victoria.

Further, Prime does not have Win's NRL coverage to compete with in the same time slot yet, making the broadcast of this match a good opportunity for the network to broaden the scope of such an appeal (not to mention the opportunity to establish a viewing routine among the audience before the commencement of the NRL season!).

Please reconsider any decision not to broadcast, if only for the victims of the fire.

Thanks,

The game is live on Fox Sports outside Victoria. It's just ch7 have pinched the coverage in Vic so Bruuuuuuuuuce can get all soppy.

Fox Sports >>>>>>>>> ch7

Yeah, it's not free to air outside Victoria though, which means the size of the audience is limited to those with Fox. Not ideal given the situation. If Bruce getting soppy brings in the $$$, so be it.

But it was always a Fox game.I'm sure they'll give heaps of plugs to the Red Cross donations.Ch7 have only done this to make themselves look good. The AFL should've told them stiff shit and let Fox do it nationally.Ch7 could've done what ch9 are doing and have some type of telethon.

Yeah, Fox probably will plug Red Cross. My point is that those plugs will go only to a limited audience - those who have or can afford cable.

Why 7 have opted for the broadcast is beside the point - they have the broadcast and they are not making the most of it if they limit the scope of the broadcast.
The 7 network definitely could do more, but probably so could most of us.

Prime has an affiliation agreement with the Seven Network so I am suprised they are not showing the game.

I gather why they are not would be one of the following;

1. Seven Network is not allowing them to broadcast the match
or 2. Prime doesn't see the game as a rating winner.

Guys talking about the fact that Fox should have kept the game-we want it to reach as large an audience as possible, and the best way to do that is FTA. And, seeing as Foxtel doesn't operate in regional areas (we have other carriers, which almost always have fox sports anyway) you would be missing a large potential audience if you only broadcasted on pay. So, while Bruce etc are annoying, we'll cop it as it means the most number of people are reached.
