Ham and Cheese toastie from 7 eleven were about 27 baht pre covid. What's it's post covid price? Used to be my standard breakfast along with 7/11 cappuchino for about the same price. I would have them in the bus on route to my prison visits. Eat on the run so to speak. I can honestly say I have only once eaten McDonalds in Thailand. KFC is really popular with young folk and kids who view it as a bit of a treat. I didn't buy it often becomes Thai KFC doesn't have coleslaw which was the only possible positive contributor to health in a KFC meal.
Around 29 baht and the burgers 35 baht, hot dogs with cheese 35 baht. A can of coke 15 baht.
Bloody cheap. 7/11 in Thailand has an amazing range of food and everything else you may need.

Which prison? My sister in law "Poi" does all the English speaking on behalf of the foreigner inmates and my brother in law "Den" is a prison guard. Bangkok Hilton.
My other brother in law a Cop.

Pathum Thani Provincial Prison.

Prices here I suspect have escalated at a much faster rate leading to significantly higher prices. Some are absurd. The place I used to buy hamburgers from 2 years ago for $9 for the lot, has pushed their price to $10, $11. $12 and now $13. This is despite the fact that mum, dad and son are the only workers and the price of mince has remained static due to both supermarkets locking in its price. 40% increase. A bottle of Johnny Walker red has gone from $38 to $48 in little over a year with the next increase in spirit prices due in August (taxes). The 7/11 store price was still around the old 700 baht for 700 ml last time I enquired - about$30 (I have never really considered Thailand cheap for alcohol). The 7/11s here wasted no time bumping their cheap coffee price from $1 to $2 a cup, a 100% increase.

Every second shop in Bangkok is a 7/11 or Family Mart. They are incredibly convenient and perform so many functions.

So quick question, Markov is on our list because Dean was put on the long term injury list. Does this mean when Charlie gets back near the end of the season that Markov can’t play as we’ll have too many active players? I understood the previous version of this and the rookie list. They couldn’t play until there was an open list spot then when they came back the elevated rookie went back to the rookie list. How does it work now?
Think the only way Dean can get back onto the playing list this season is if someone else goes onto the long term injury list and Dean is then promoted to take their spot.

Yes agree mate. My mother was paying $12 for a single lettuce a few weeks back in Melbourne.
Insane.
What's annoying is they are blaming it on the Russia Ukraine war.
I come from a family of market gardeners and know this is complete BS.
It seems just the Western countries being affected by rising prices.
S/E Asia keeps plodding along just fine.
My brunch every morning costs $1.40 for a big meal which includes a pork soup.
Same price as it was 7 years ago.
Buy cheap meals all along the beach and start a BBQ on the sand whenever you like.

Interest rates here much lower without the rises.
My car loan was just 3%.
No council rates, my rubbish still gets picked up. All the roads are kept immaculate.

Utilities extremely affordable. Faster internet.
If you need cheap moonshine around $2 for a 750ml bottle.

You can fish wherever you please or start a business without council approval. Its called FREEDOM

If anyone is thinking of retirement here give me a DM.
I can help with everything including Thai Immigration.
They want $34K sitting in your bank account permanently.
Plus $741 per year.

I can avoid the bank account and the only cost is $650 per year.
Legally.
I don't even need to leave my home to go to Thai Immigration every 3 months. My lawyer does all of this for the $650. No paperwork at all.
Same goes for any Visa, Working, Marriage..

Cheers

If I fake my own death and do a Shawshank Redemption style beneficiary scheme can crash with you for a while? 😂

Lol.
Thanks, Walter.
I assume you can fix the marriage as well?

Pics on their way brother, your friend is going to be happy long time.
Pity it's not for you.
You're the one they want.
I s’pose it’d be rude not to have a look.

Agree with all of that - except the $12 lettuces were about market garden floods in NSW and QLD - not blamed on Ukraine.

Some prices in Aust are just jaw dropping. Particularly vegetables which are dirt cheap in Asia. How the * can brussel sprouts cost more than meat? Just nonsensical.
Unless Brussel sprouts was the only available food source, I would expect decent recompense for eating a sprout. Why anyone would actually pay for it and kale is beyond comprehension. Both are all close to inedible.

But there is no accounting for taste. The Elsternwick Pub at least once weekly has lamb's fry as a special on the senior's menu. I hated it as a child, and assumed those people purchasing it now must be people around my age or older who had lived through the internal organ food blitz of the 50s and 60s, but actually and inexplicably acquired a taste for some of the revolting meal options of the time.

Apparently it's very popular with the seniors and people actually pay money to eat it.!

Brussel sprouts are actually delicious. Oh and from a nutrition point of view they are a super food.
Problem is that most people over cook them, which turns them into an inedible dark green mush.
Done right they are very nice.
Kale I agree with.
Why bother with it when spinach or baby spinach (whichever you prefer) is a million times tastier and probably the absolute king of nutrition.

I keep trying to eat vegetables, or parts of vegetables, which the internet says are edible.

Like kale. Why should I have to massage the leaves in order to break down the fibres just so they are edible?

Last night I made a roasted cauliflower salad. It was very nice except for the leaves. Once again I believed the internet which said to roast and eat the leaves. But they were tough and fibrous. So no - not falling for that again.

💯 agree.
Don’t overcook your sprouts.
Roast them.
Or boil lightly. Then pan fry with chopped bacon, remove, add slivered almonds and drizzle with olive oil.

Ok, a kale secret.
It’s crap. But can make great crisps.
When you’re cooking a roast, grab the kale leaves your vegan guest brought.
You can cut the spines out or leave them in. Wash them too. Then dry.
Then, hit them with spray oil, and lightly sprinkle Parmesan on top. Lightly.
Sit them in the oven as you roast.
Maybe across the top of the roast veggies.
They don’t take too long.
And come out crispy and delicious.
It’s an easy and unbelievable transformation.

Maybe we need a recipe/foodie thread.

Once upon a time we had one of those. It pretended to be the Covid thread but it kept some of us going during lockdowns.😁
I’m for it.
