When I was an undergrad I had a Xmas tree business with a couple of mates

For 3 weeks we raked in the cash, stuffing it in the glovebox of my mate's van as we offloaded pinus radiata

When we opened the glovebox at the end of the day, the cash would bloom like a fat cabbage

So beautiful

I've found it really hard to get a lot of places to take cash at the moment. My partner had been helping out some oldies with shopping and they insisted on giving him cash for their stuff because that's how they do everything but nobody would take the cash off him so we built up this big wad of bills. We had an old school poker night with them in our house just because that's what you do when you have a big stack of folding stuff around the place.

I'll happily take your cash, I won't even charge you for it. I'll PM you my address.

50 cents per $100?
Plus you can always insert your card and select anything but credit to avoid that charge.
Cash is dirty, always has been.
Cannot wait for it to be banned.
As an aside, I noted a few weeks ago Officeworks had a dedicated cash only terminal. That has gone and cash is not welcome. The future now.
To each their own.

I do it more so because small business owner always like cash and I like having it on me.

I have two credit cards (no idea why) and use both and depending on the service sometimes use the card even if it is a small business.

Everyone has their quirks and this is one of mine.

Same with me Maggie. I also get annoyed when I end up having to pay for small purchases for friends who don't carry cash.

Or even a wife for that matter...

It’s interesting the cash side to small businesses or whoever.

if we assume some of them (many of them?) don’t declare the earnings correctly or not at all, are not they stealing from all of us?

A person working for a company who takes out their tax and hence they pay their share.

So are those and the honest people de facto subsidising the cheaters?

Interesting question I would posit?

No more than big businesses who have good accountants who cost more than most corner shop makes in a year and making sure they claim every cent to the border line of the law. Or companies who are registered in tax free havens. Could go into millions.

2007, Prelim did we win? Can't be bothered checking.

I cheated we lost, will give it a miss.
Bloody hell. Won’t be watching that, even though it was a great game. Should be a rule that only Collingwood victories are shown.

I understand why certain businesses do that i.e. enforce the $10 minimum. The merchant fees eat into whatever little profit there is on a $5.50 sale. There is a minimum cost per EFTPOS transaction that would make it not feasible. The bigger chains are able to negotiate better deals and have smaller transaction fees.

I think as a buyer you should have had the option to pay that transaction fee on top of the cost of the pie to ease your concerns about paying with cash, but I'm not ready to crucify the small business owner on this one.

Place I worked had that policy the owner would read yes read every eftpost sale report from the prior day's sales.
Staff had only one way out of it re the POS software make the sale $10.05 as there was never a price displayed on the purchase.
And well me and others just put the sale through at the below minimum.
This saved fuss and not losing a customer.
Also keep in mind some of these regular customers would spend over $100.00
Its a toughie I see both sides.
As a business owner which I am not rather let that slide re eftpos and put a slight increase on the product perhaps as a way of of setting the cost of an eftpos machine

If it’s legal that’s a different issue as they still employ 100s or 1000s.

Surely we not condoning thievery whoever does it?

Why does a lady who is a bank teller and hence paying her fair share of tax have to subsidise a “robbing” cafe owner as an example?

Big business should always pay it’s fair share that’s true but legal deductions are open to them to me to you.

I just find the moral dimension of interest.

I'm a Turk SV.
So I think you know my opinion on this without me even stating it.

Some banks are cancelling passbook accounts.
And making people use plastic.
Many Older people do not do internet banking and cash and there passbook account is the way they live.
Not sure that’s 100% right.

Some banks have done so previously and no longer opening new passbook accounts.

My understanding is NAB are offering debit cards in conjunction with the existing passbooks so users can avoid the moving for cash funds etc.

Strictly optional.

At some point the old style banking will close off as the world changes.

a cashless society is certainly coming - not that far away I’d suggest.

the harder then It will be for the cash society and the drug trafficking and those sorts of things.

I will look into it more next week sir,
Have no doubt many of our older generation are used to the passbook and not internet banking.
