Man, I love this sport but that's just deflating. Just annoying

Richie Porte dropping Quintana? Geraint Thomas ahead of Valverde, Contador and Tejay?

Yeah nah.

You're forgetting that Thomas dropped the entire peloton first before finding a second wind and said after the stage that he wanted to drop Tejay but was told to sit on. Can't believe Thomas said that. As mentioned, it could have easily been today if Thomas was allowed to ride;

1. Froome
2. Porte
3. Thomas

This thread is a joke.

Just bumping this after last night. I don't get the joke so why don't you explain it? Or bing181 ?

This was my favourite bit (from noted climber and presumably anointed next British Tour de France Champion Geraint Thomas):

“I kind of did my turn, got with Valverde and got back up to Tejay, and obviously I wasn’t going to ride with Tejay to limit his losses, so I was stuck behind him for four or five kilometres. It was kind of frustrating; I kind of wanted to go".

So Geraint could have gone harder, too. Yeh, why not. Sky rested on the rest day unlike all of their competitors who were on the piss apparently so it makes sense...

Anyone else been following the whole Froome data thing today? Opinions?

Bit of a beat up. Kinda expected it to be higher considering where the time sits. If guys at NRS level can average 350 watts up Mt Buffalo for 45mins then Froome doing 389w for an hour is hardly a big deal. This is from Contador's bike yesterday just for his warm-up.

That FTP certainly isn't for an hour.

So Gesink, who has the highest power in that strava segment, averaged 5.84 w/kg @ around 90% of max heart rate for 40 minutes. Froome is slightly heavier (1kg based on stats) beat him by 1 minute 33 seconds (and looked like he had just ridden to the cafe), which is about 4% quicker and he only beat Thomas by 1% of the climb time and Thomas said he had plenty in reserve.

Great quote from Ross Tucker (who has actually defended Froome in the past)

Then Froome, on the verge of being discarded, having not even stood out as exceptional in our SA cycling circuit (good, but not “let’s blow away the best” exceptional), transformed into the greatest ever cyclist after the age of 25, with VO2max values that would have made a physiologist’s eyeballs explode (and hey, we’re in Africa, but we aren’t that backward here), riding away from people who WERE earmarked for greatness from a young age. It’s the most remarkable transformation of a mature athlete ever. Late emergence is one thing, transformation when you’re already in the ‘window’ quite another.

pls respond bing181

No one uses EPO anymore

That's the sort of post that needs to more information. Please enlighten us.

Perhaps it's just a brand name? Like generic red blood cell booster?

Read blackcats post from last couple of pages. Explains the development. EPO is too traceable. It's moved to the new generation/mutation whatever you want to call it.
