KG and cornesy asked him about the pronounciation of his name earlier this year, it's Dow-ty, NOT dough-ty like it's spelt

so is that 'dow' as in 'cow or 'dow' as in 'low' :)

I have been trying to find the answer to this question for ages!
The commentators seem to pronounce dowty as in cow, but I am sure I heard Bickley pronounce dowty as in low. Confused!
I could be wrong and it could be just the way he speaks because then sometimes you hear people say it with a slight irish accent and it sounds like bread dough with a slight cow dow in it......so yeah....hmmmmm......
arrrggggghhhhh! I am going with COW DOW Doughty.......
And to quote someone famous.....(well maybe not) :)
there's no doubt about Doughty!!!!!!!!

I went to school with Michael

Michael last name is pronounced Dow-tee and that is Dow as in Cow! I went to high school with Michael & Scott Welsh - lucky girl hey! Good old Reynella East High School boys!

i know how u feel, for a while, i didnt know how to pronounce his name and it drove me crazy how each commentator would say it differently, but i think now most of our supporters can say it the right way

Does it annoy* anyone else when commentators get names wrong?, for example Aker-mar-nis instead of Aker-man-is. I'm prety sure he has said it is the latter. For the record, Doughty has always sounded more correct as "doubt-y" to me.

[BLUEY] *Mate you can use "annoy" instead of s**t in this instance. Why go to all the trouble to skirt the swearing filters?? There are so many words in the English language, why swear when you've been asked not to? Are you lazy? Rebellious? Don't like BigFooty? [/BLUEY]

Thanks all, it's just that I heard Ayresy say a few words after the Richmond match when they interviewed him and it sounded like he pronounced it Doherty. Bloody Channel 9 microphones.

I always thought it to be Dow-tee.

I do; for no real reason apart from; he has something special about him and I think North are in the market for this type of player
Well we are going to have to give up a good player(s) / draft pick(s) for Carey. As much as I would hate to lose Doughty, we have plenty of players to backfill him with - ie. Gallagher, Mattner, Reilly, etc. Roos could do with another good young midfielder & Doughty is the type of player I reckon Pagan could be interested in.

Hey,

I went to Reynella East High too :D

I didn't know Scott Welsh went there and Michael Doughty went there. I am 3 years older than Welsh that's probably why.

I know he isn't a Football player but Brett Maher from the 36ers went to Reynella East too.

Golly Gosh!

Oh my! I didn't know that Reynella East was such popular school!

I am going to show my age here - I wore the ghastly brown uniform from 1988 - 1992 inclusive!

A famous school for sporting talent that is for sure.

Not only AFL footballers but Brett Maher from the 36's and Peta Squire from the Thunderbirds and Australian Netball team.

They're forever raving on about Brett Maher and Peta Squire... they haven't mentioned Scott Welsh before, I didn't know he came to REHS.

Michael Doughty was in my friends year.
