Does Damo even North Melbourne?
“Good news never made a paper sell”. Cootamundra Wattle by John Williamson. Positivity by nature is just not good journalism. People want to be outraged. I don’t listen to or read any media at all, who needs more negativity in their life!

The comments from Wilson and Barrett are nothing but cheap shots.

Their beat is the business/politics side of footy, not the on-field stuff. They know how this works.

They know draft assistance can't be decided until the regular season finishes and has to be done before the player movement period begins, which is Friday next week. And they know the Commission's only meeting between those dates is on Brownlow Day. It's not taking out the trash - it's literally the only time it can be done.

And breathlessly reporting that other clubs are pissed off is about as un-newsworthy as you can get.

For several years, there was a strong sentiment in the football community that we should never allow what happened to Fitzroy supporters ever happen again. Now we have what appears to be thousands of football supporters suggesting that North should be relegated to the VFL or merged with Tasmania. Essentially the exact same thing as happened to Fitzroy. What annoys me is that all of these heroes who make their flippant social media posts about the death of a football club and how it's in the best interests of everyone would then deny ever having contributed to the death of a football club and they would blame the evil AFL. I suggest that Ross Oakley and the AFL felt they had broad support to kill Fitzroy in 1996. They didn't anticipate that all of the arseholes calling for the death of Fitzroy would disappear back under their rocks and leave the AFL commissioners and executive as the bad guys.
Don’t forget Fitzroy were set to merge with us back then but all the media and powerbrokers etc were having hysterical fits as it would create a super team.

How l loved winning that last game but if we had not have won then we would have had not only Pick#1 but also Pick#2 as a compensation pick for McKay...How does everyone think that would have gone down with the other clubs... Having 1, 2, 14, 19PP and 39 to start with and F1st, Future Pick #19 and #20 plus our F2nd...:D

Spinning tops don't do context.

R1 picks since 2017

17 - LDU is a star, injury problems have hampered him, but is an out and out gun.
18 - Thomas has had his off field and personal issues, but is a gun and has shown it.
19 - NONE. Our first pick was Charlie Mr. Chalk Comben at 31.
20 - Phillips has had glandular fever destroy a full year, Powell has been impacted by injuries. COVID kids too, so theres that.
21 - JHF bailed
22 - Sheez and Wardlaw, both big ticks.

Damo and his AFL media ilk aren't journalists, just talking heads. Leave em off and get on with our lives.
Yup and you have to go back to cunners before that being the last time we accessed top end talent thanks to the expansion clubs.

Yeah. I don't get the point that the other clubs are angry they didn't have a say in it. I mean, why would they have a say in it? And even if they did, of course they'd vote for they're own self interest. I suspect that instead of the white-hot-rage that Barrett and Wilson are reporting, there's more likely to be a some bemusement at most. Aside from serial whinger Chris Scott, who else has really come off the long run?

Self interest dictates that no one will because the day may come when they will be putting their hand out. I mean, I can't believe that West Coast would be too outraged given they're probably next in line for a hand out. And I guess when Geelong get themselves into trouble - maybe many years away - bit they will be one day, they'll politely decline their hand outs? Yeah, right.
After listening to Andrew Mackie on Gettable he disagreed with what Chris Scott had to say.

It was a coach going rogue with his own opinion not the clubs.

Would not seen ANY assistance if we had 1 & 2 this year. None. Esp.after 2 & 3 last year. I mean we deserved them all, yes. But the outrage would be worse.

Dont forget that assistance packages are done before the McKay comensation so we could have still ended up with them as it would have been 1, 14, 39 not what we had which was 2, 14, 39.

It'll be interesting to see if our interest in Sanders was purely about trying to get him free (or guaranteed access) or whether we really really rate him and draft him anyway.

Yes but the general fan groups lap it up and then I’m dealing with the bullshit “cheating” conversations in real life and who needs more of that in their life!

Though it is a long time ago now, I still vividly remember the absolute feeling of loss and desolation from those horrible times. I resolved then though that I would not follow Brisbane, but at the same time I had no idea how I would cope with football from 1997 on.

Anyway, that's history but it should be a lesson to all those now from their superior positions on field, that they should be prepared to assist struggling clubs, any club that is in dire straits on field, because who knows when it might be their turn next to need assistance.

No-one knows "for whom the bell tolls next".
I'm in the same boat Horace. Grew up a Fitzroy supporter but those comments from Noel Gordon confirmed I could never support Brisbane. I'm now passionately North and have my kids on board sticking fat through the tough years and looking forward to better ones.

I think that winning the last game actually increased what we received. It showed that we weren't tanking.

This is sort of what worries me. When I was a kid I was the only North supporter other than my brothers in both primary and secondary school. I worry that ground we have made up is being lost again in the kids of today. You blokes with kids know what it’s like trying to keep them interested when we are being belted every week. This is why the league needs to keep clubs within arms length. Once you lose a large cohort of supporters from an already small base that can be very damaging. On the other hand I have no confidence that we have truly grown the support base this year. Just does not seem realistic to me given our situation.

I suspect we saw him as a free hit, would be very surprised if we drafted him.

Nah I wouldn’t be. Mates with the sheez. Can see him and McKercher with whom he has some synergy both at the club. Maybe those two and curtin and if we can land say Edwards or another developing ruck and another pure KPP.

If it Bleeds it Leads is the adage.

It’s for clicks, but it riles up the masses that are too ****ing stupid to see that this will happen to their club one day if it hasn’t already…!

Getting him for free as a pre-list or even matching a bid is very different scenario to using a high draft pick on him. I very much doubt he'll be in blue & white stripes next season.

I’m old school, him running thru all those hoops, even to the point of placing him in the academy last minute means something.

you’ll never regret getting in good people, who want to be part of your organisation.

Fair enough, we'll have to wait and see what happens on draft night.

Just wanted to throw my support behind Chris Scott. Being very harshly dealt with here.

So what if he won flags at a club that cannibalised another clubs list, netted 2 Brownlow medallists for free under zoning concessions or star players via priority picks (another serving of Nigel Lappin please waiter?). Not to mention a Hall of Fame CHF via their dad playing 50 games for another club.

When he speaks about level playing fields - we should listen.
