Will Dustin Martin, i mean Powell-Pepper get to our first pick?

If he does then we have a chance of grabbing him - his highlights package looks appealing.

If he doesn't then that means another player may slide to pick 23.

We can't lose.. ;)

Footy skills are under-rated by many but not by us. Last year Gresham, Coughlan, O'Kearney and Rice did well in the testing.

These guys performed well by hand and foot at the combine ... (3 of these please)

.... Oliver Florent (28) @23
Ryan Garthwaite (28)*
Jarrod Berry (27)
Will Hayward (27)
Sam Powell-Pepper (27)
Isaac Cumming (26)*
Joe Atley (26)
Myles Poholke (26)
Jonty Scharenberg (26)
.... Jack Maibaum (26) @36

Kicking test (score out of a possible 30)
Jordan Ridley (27)
Isaac Cumming (26)*
Jarrod Berry (25)
.... Tom Williamson (24) @61
Dylan Clarke (24)
Willem Drew (23)
Josh Battle (23)

Goalkicking test (score out of a possible 30)
Sam Powell-Pepper (30)

How did SPP go on the kicking test I know it's not necessarily an accurate representation but considering his kicking is meant to be awful how did he go?

Not published.

Top 10 in the beep test, agility and clean hands.

Best in goal-kicking count?

One thing that might help SPP compensate for poor kicking is his vision: he seems to be able to see players who are far away but in space, and kick it out to them. When that happens, it doesn't matter quite so much that he's not kicking it right to them.

I think we need to take an outside wing type mid with our first pick.. we really don't have many I think that's the right range of pick to take one .. I think we've got acres, Ross, dunstan, Gresham , Steele etc as genuine mids id only add to that group with an elite mid so I'd like us to go an outside runner

After watching a lot of footage, I've got to go with (for our first pick):

1. Josh Rotham
2. Jonty Scharenberg

Scharenberg goes down the road of a Seb Ross style apprenticeship and we could be laughing our arses off in a few years. More like Seb's juiced up cousin than our crafty thinking distributor. That frame is born to be flogged in the gym, and he could really come on down the track as an immovable stoppage beast. Although his kicking can miss the target, it isn't a terrible technique. He leans forward and keeps his head over the ball, probably still considering the technique over the moving target. Certainly could come on as a good user of the footy down the track. If he continues to grow in height, with the muscle bulk a given, could be a great 20s pick.

Rotham will make the grade. Leg speed, natural defensive and attacking intelligence, desire to stay involved, and a pretty ambitious player. Hell yes.

This is why I reckon our best bet may be Cedric Cox (if Shai Bolton is gone).

Yeah I was watching our R14 game v Geelong over the last couple of days and Lingy in particular was talking about how important it was that someone like Nathan Wright was able to really open the game up and beat the press and congestion with his pace and willingness to use it and sometimes it doesn't matter so much if they don't kick it perfectly at the end, because they've already gained us so much by helping us to get it deep forward and out of trouble in the first place.

The other thing that can happen when they bust through a pack and break a line like SPP can is that you can have one or two in space out the back and all it takes is a half-decent long kick over the top, somewhere in their vacinity and they'll be able to get on the end of it and hopefully turn it into a goal and one thing SPP seems to be able to do (like Acres) is to kick it long pretty well.

Really think we need to make speed our no.1 focus in this draft.

Outside mids with speed:

Berry
Gallucci
Rotham
Bolton
Having seen them all play, I'd say the last 3 definitely have the sort of speed I'm talking about, but Rotham seems much more likely to make it in the 3rd or 4th tall role down back than anywhere in the midfield. I reckon if we got him he'd be another one in a long line that we draft in the hopes that they push up into the midfield but never quite make it.

You don't think Cedric Cox is in the same conversation as them? I haven't seen him play, but thought he was meant to be quick and the type who loves to run and bounce.

Cedric could slide but he's certainly thereabouts looking at the phantoms with lots to like.

Hard to go past Simpkin, Florent, Berry and Powell-Pepper as mids though.

Don't think Scharenberg really fits the bill

I'm hoping for Jordan Ridley or the bald eagle SPP who looks closer to 38 than 18.
Are Ridley/Rotham defender types who are expected to eventually move into the midfield?

Not sure Berrys really an outside mid, nor is he very quick. Although very athletic.
Plus hes kicking seems a doubt too.

Would love him but don't see him as an outside mid.
Try telling him he can't do something and he'll probably prove otherwise. Came 4th in the repeat sprints and equal 3rd in the kicking.

Go figure.

He's better described as a utility though it seems.

He's a warrior. The best kid in the draft I think the afl said.

His mentality means he will probably become a player, but maybe not an outside mid with speed
