I think we should have kept it and drafted jordan lewis.

We never needed morrison and lewis looks a better prospect than egan who we picked at ten.

Lewis shone against willy last week, an absolute class above anything we have and has size about him plus he had 20 odd touches in his first afl game.

I think we stuffed up again.

It looks as tough we missed out on another gun player.

Oh well there's always next year....... :(

We got Egan at 10 who looks extremely exciting. Morrison fills a position while the kids develop.

Hmm didnt u watch the game on saturday?
morrison was awesome 17 odd touches shut down kouta completely and as james clement said on the footy show saturday that chad has been our best over preseason by a long way.

as for lewis yeah would have been nice to have him he looks like his going to be a good player but its only one game, he wasnt exactly having a player pick him up most of his touches were uncontested and he was by him self most of the game.
once again why cant supporters be happy with what we have got instead of bagging the crap out of them after 3 games and having a whinge about some guy whos played 1 game wait and see when egan gets his chance and plays then start judging bloody hell

When was Jorden Lewis the no.7 pick anyway, Egan could have been picked up at no.7 by the Pies, but if you look at it that way, fair enough. Jorden Lewis is a good player, and I saw that last Saturday, and then again on Sunday Night. As for Chris Egan, the kid obviously can play, and will play good footy. He has toe about his game, very quick and mobile. Can play in the midfield, off the back flank but we would most likely see him in the forward pocket. It is round 3 - we have seen 1 AFL Game from Lewis, you can't judge it on one game, especially when Egan hasn't even played a senior game - but despite that, Egan has been emergewncy two weeks running!

As for Morrison, WTF??? Chad has had an awesome career, and is a bargain considering we still got our first round draft pick back, and got rid off Nixon. Morrison is a star back flanker, and yes...Very good game last week against probably the most dominant midfielder from the first two rounds. He shut him down. And he has super composure, and a great kick - Nothing wrong doing there. Chad Morrison also adds experience.

I don't see the point. Egan and Morrison will be and are good players!!!

I didn't have much problem with the initial trade, although we habitually look to trade down top picks, which I think is dangerous. Top five you never trade down and the rest of the top ten, well, you'd better have a damn good reason.

This year I think we had a good reason. We flushed out a VFL standard 2002 draft player and got an AFL standard player in return, all for the cost of three draft places.

We did assume incorrectly that the three before us were going to take ruckman, of which only Adelaide did. But Lewis is a plodder. A good ball magnet plodder, with reasonable skills, but not even mildly what we'd be interested in.

I think we'd have been interested in Russell, but probably had him in the same basket as Meyer. Good skilled outside finishers, with good pace. Egan is different to the two SA boys, who are more in your Rowe type mould. Egan has more "freak" about him, and that's why I reckon we picked him up ahead of Meyer.

Lewis will be a good solid player, no doubt, but I dunno if we'd have bothered picking him up even if he was available at pick 23. It's not something worth worrying about!

I just reckon lewis will be a more consistent, solid player for hawthorn where as egan will be more of a leon type that will do something exceptional every now and then but bugger all the rest.

I dont even think the Pies wouldve taken Lewis at 7? It was a suprise he was taken early by many, but im glad we have him ;)

By the way, he supports Collingwood, oh i mean he did :D

Stan, I've only ever seen Egan twice. At a guess, I reckon you probably have too. In his first game, he only got six posessions in about a half of footy, against a fired up WCE outfit.

Against Box Hill, he was quite good IMO. Sure, he struggled at full forward, but he was the only option (apparantly). He did look dangerous when the ball hit the deck. It was when he moved up the ground that he looked good. Showed toe and kicked accurately (one of the few who did all day).

Lewis was prolific, who was being fed by a dominant ruckman and had guys around the ground who could kick to him. That's a handy head start! But he looked all the time like a player we don't need.

We have prolific single paced midfielders. We need class finishers to help them.

FWIW, I think Egan will be a bit different to Leon. Leon cops a lot of praise for his ability to do something great, once every now and then. People marvel at his potential. He doesn't do much wrong except nothing too often. Egan on the other hand I think will always be doing something. Good, bad, the weird, the genius, the matchwinning. I'll tell you who I'm more excited about!!!

Yep, another stuff up by Noel Dudkins. Traded a tall, classy midfielder for a Leon Davis clone. Will it ever end?

Not only is that a racist comment, its also ignorant. Egan has a totally different body shape and game to Davis. He is much taller and leaner, and looks more versatile. If you want to compare him with an aboriginal, try Wells or Kerr.

He's no lardarse and we have to be thankful for that. Egan will be a player. Erratic, but a player.

I can't believe this is even up for discussion. Jordan Lewis, mature body, good skills a nice left foot, I doubt he's got much improvement to make. Will be a solid league player. Just what we DON'T need though, a slow inside player. Egan has electrifying pace and magic skills, is inconsistent but most young players are. His body also needs a lot of work but should, given a bit of time turn into a damaging winger flanker type, just what we DO need.

MM always said that we would more than likely get the one we wanted at #10 regardless.

Was Egan that player?

I've asked this question on many boards because I heard we were really after Jordan Russell taken by the filth at No. 9

We were heavily linked to Jordan Russell and Danny Meyer, primarily due to Neil Balme spending so much time in South Australia.

I'd have no doubt that these two were interviewed. We did of course have a high second round pick. And we did of course use said pick on a South Australian on "smokey" Sean Rusling!

Russell is a weird one. He wasn't really rated as a high pick until right before the draft, mainly because of his excellent draft camp results.

I'm sure not sure if Wiz released a full draft summary on Russell and the only comment on him featured "flawed kicking".

Both Russell and Meyer ended up being expected to get a top ten spot, whereas Egan was generally rated lower due to his inconsistencies. It makes sense that Egan would be almost a definite to slip through to 10.

Like hotpie said, we'll never know, but I suspect we got exactly who we wanted.

Kerr is Sri Lankan descent, not Aboriginal.
