Really like Kobe Mutch here and I must admit I'm surprised no one has nominated him. Given that GWS will have had to match bids on Setterfield & Perryman there's every chance that Mutch could be ripe for the picking....so to speak. Very good off both feet and acquires a truckload of the ball.

The other one I like is Macreadie who's an extremely mobile defensive gorilla with plenty of talent and is about the only KPP I really rate in this draft. GWS already boast Davis, Haynes, Himmelberg, Corr, Mohr, Tomlinson & Finlayson who are all capable KPDs, so the desire to match a bid on him here may not be their highest priority.

Voted for Kerr, but if Venables slips we must take him.
I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Venables available here, but the question still remains, does he get enough of the ball to make it at AFL level???

Agree with you on Mutch, I would be surprised if he wasn't taken by the start of the 3rd round. Sproule is the one I am really interested in, I would even use 25 for him if B. Cox was gone, if SOS was looking at KPP in the 2nd round.

Suspect Venables will be gone by 25, very talented, but has had a number of small setbacks

Agree on both points.

I've always thought that we should bid on Macreadie but pretty much kept quite because it sounds a bit like an extravagant idea. However, since key defenders have come back into the equation recently, I think Macreadie's 'ceiling' is so much higher than the other names being spoken about.

One thing we need is additional athletic CHBs ;)

Well worth the risk at this pick. Has shown glimpses he could be an elite player on attributes alone.

Has shown he can be damaging inside. Explosive pace, scoreboard impact. Just need to get his injuries right and rebuild a tank to go into the midfield rotation. If we take a mid at #5, the latter is less of a problem. Venables has a bit of mongrel about him too which helps.

Have to pick up Kerr, his grandfather played 149 games and his uncle played just under 50 for us. His father played for carltons U/19. Shame the father and son rule doesn't include his grandfather. Fairy tail aside if he is still available at #25 he would be a great pick up.

No room for sentiment with this one. He is the best available or he isn't. The romance and supporter interest is not the same as it was Jack. Our second pick too, not our 5th.

either of the two KPP (Macreadie or Sproule) from the GWS academy would have to be considered with this pick.
I know we have just picked up Marchbank, just believe that we still need coverage for injuries.
I think we need quality midfielders with our first two picks in this draft. With the departure of Judd, Carrazzo, and Murphy turning 30 next year, Gibbs who knows where after next year, it's our top priority atm.

His father didn't play a senior game for Carlton.

Good choices and if the Whitfield drama escalates there could be even less points available at GWS to match bids.

Still like Venables. The class he shows is rare, and if Bolts can lift his work rate he would be great for us

Fair enough, but they might not be there. I don't like the idea of trying to squeeze blood from a stone if it means we miss out on the better player.

Cedric Cox..... Will he be available at 25? SPP will be gone by then and its hard to imagine that either of Bolton or my hope of picking up Florent will be available at 25.

Who do you guys think will be the possible sliders that last to 25??

Do you think venables will be available at 25? And what afl player might be of similar ilk??

SPP looks like he'll be an early 2nd round pick maybe just before our pick. Cox and Florent should go in the teens and Bolton would be our best bet to be available from that list IMO

Who do you like at 25? Any smokies you know of? I know that SA bloke Graham is continually rated around 20-30...

Florent will go before SPP imo. I don't think it's such a long shot that Bolton would be available

Yes he will, as will plenty of more talented and/or consistent players. #25 will be a good pick, and it's extremely likely that #48 will be a solid pick as well.

Where it may get a little tricky is at #60 (or was it #63), as there may have been a run on rucks, academy/FS kids, and the remaining balanced or good inside mids. Hopefully a few clubs have reached for a tall and someone slides.

Regardless, there's going to be some much more productive kids than Tutt, Smith and Foster.

I still think tall players will be our best bet late because they are still developing. At least Carlton's drafting history shows that you just don't get the perfectly pigeon-holed ball-winning type players with later picks. All the edge is taken off by that stage and they struggle to have an impact at the next level. I'm just advocating that we play the percentages with each pick.

CBF doing the stats, but it feels like more AA KPDs and rucks come from late ND rounds or Rookie picks compared to mids.

Especially when you account for the fact that mids make up half the team these days.

You sure of that?
Go have a look at the Phantom Draft, and look at who's still on the board. That's without the late bolters and depth of networks the AFL clubs have. There's going to be over 80 players drafted in this one, which is staggering when you remember that there's currently only 92 senior list spots available.

The DFA period was a ghost town.

There's a dearth of genuine tall forwards, which means there's going to be an early run on them, and tall utilities like Ridley and McCarthy will become very valuable. There's also a dearth of genuine KPD, so again, there will be an early run.

Come pick 48, the only tall talent left of substantial value (when you consider scope and production) might be a ruck prospect. What's more, there's such a strong batch of smalls and mids, there could be a can't miss kind of value there with a midfielder (which we desperately need anyway).

I'm all for 'get the tall' approach when they're of equal perceived value to the team, but I don't think all things will be equal in the respect from our third pick onwards.
