It comes off the round after (or before, depending on what picks the club holds).

So if a team has no round 1 pick, but a second and a third, then they are limited in the amount of deficit they can carry in to the future.

If they have a first, but no second and third, then it comes off their first round pick, but again, that still limits the total deficit a team can carry.

In an extreme case, every club will know if a team can match a bid or not, and know if they put in a bid on a kid that a team can't match, that they are getting that kid.

Typically the team trading for the highest pick in any trade pays a premium to do so.

Typically the team trading a future pick for a current pick pays a premium to do so.

If we look at a possible Carlton and Adelaide trade, then Adelaide is the team that should be paying overs to move up and the draft and to bring a future pick in to the current draft.

If we look at a possible Carlton and Essendon trade, then Carlton would normally be the team paying overs to move up the draft board.

The new points system will make this harder, as "junk" picks are no longer useful in these trades.

You all wanted a "fairer" system where teams pay fair value for father sons and academy kids, well welcome to the totally foreseeable and already discussed unintended consequences.

Probably going to need to be clarified a bit more with this likely 2 pick match system and teams more willing to go into deficit like you said and just take it off next years 1st

Will go 15 to 30 range a few knocks on him with is inside game but can kick a snag. a bit of mail cats are keen at 18 see him as a winger

Not his body, nothing wrong with his attitude but certainly not going to post negatives about a kid that aren’t widely known or there for all to see eg kicking.

Only takes one club to pick him on upside, which is immense. Him, Phillipou and Barker are all similar in this regard.

Cats are linked to everyone with that pick, some talk of an early bid on our NGA T Williams.

It’ll be tougher to match high kids if you’re a team that doesn’t have high end draft picks. And it will be hard to trade up for those picks.

Its tough now let alone making it tougher. I think the limit of two picks is a tad extreme and will likely see clubs missing on top end F/S

I think we take it if the Dean bid is coming late

If the bid comes in at 5 we will probably need to hold onto one of 9 or 11 so then only one gets traded to Adelaide

Jed Hagan (Former WA 18's player) to move to Tasmania, represent their VFL side and all things going to plan - becomes an inaugural Tasmania AFL squad member.

It's a genuine rumour at least!

Part one of the rumour has come true.

Jed Hagan is now off the East Fremantle senior list. I wonder if he is already on his way to Tasmania?

It's also rumoured that he is a contender to be part of the inaugural Tasmania leadership group. By 2028, he would have played 63 state league senior games in the WAFL and SANFL plus quite a few more for the Tasmanian VFL side.

I assume its going to be somewhere in the middle - either 16 + F2 +other picks for points for 9 or 11. Otherwise its 16+F1+F2 for 9 and 11

Or even f1 and F2 for one of 9 or 11

I would then imagine F2 traded back in to 2025 for points
