Cal Twomey’s Phantom Draft

We have to pray that he somehow gets through the ND without attracting a bid. Our only hope if that happens is if we've been able to keep an extra main list spot somehow which isn't publically known yet (i.e. being able to keep Maric on the rookie list along with Hutchinson still on there) or we pass on Williams (but Evans may not be even be bid on, so we'd be kicking ourselves).
It's gonna be a nervous wait to find out what will happen. We might have to make some tough decisions.

Have asked before about Maric and Hutch. Noone seems to know for sure their status

Two weeks out from the draft. If our picks stay the same I predict (wishfully)
1: Duursma
2: Sharp
13 (wherever it ends up) Farrow
30ish: Rodriguez
Match Banfield

Pick one Rookie draft: Curtin
Evans and Walley to get through.

Draft profile reads so well:

OVERVIEW

Was one of star performers in the Croweaters National Under 18 Championship. The tough midfielder led from the front as captain of the side and was integral to South Australia’s superb onball brigade and was crowned South Australia’s Most Valuable Player in the carnival and was also named vice-captain in the Under-18 All-Australian side. His consistent performances across the carnival showcased his prolific ball winning capabilities and clean disposal by foot and hand. His leadership qualities have been widely admired with South Australia’s success in the championships and will increase his reputation to club recruiters. Has has been continually challenged on his speed and acceleration from the contest and across the ground, which is an aspect of his game that will be improved with time. Has solidified himself as one of the top midfielders in this year’s draft pool and will be a great get for the club that selects him on draft night.

STRENGTHS:

  • Leadership
  • Accumulation
  • Clean disposal
  • Dual-sided
  • Contested Ability
  • Strength
  • Tackling
Luke Valente would suit WC perfectly as a much needed Mid ;) .
I was disappointed when the dockers picked him up.

Turns out I had nothing to fear.

Seems to be the longest period ever waiting for the draft, time drags by.
However it lands, it looks like we'll be getting a bunch of mids of various quality and positional aptitude.
Great for our depth and the Wafl pressure pushing up.
Great for Harley.

Sharp's highlights are super impressive, hands like lightning. So long as we walk away with him I'll be happy, whether at 2, as part of some sort of trade down, or via a miracle at 13.

I won't wet the bed with CDT, all the experts rate him so there must be something there, I just don't see it. Wish the draft age was 21 or something, would make talls a less risky prospect.

Not enough novel lists like this.
Yeah this was great, way too many mocks seem to just be a conglomeration of others views, but this felt legitimately full of the author's views. It opened me up a bit on the perspective of a few players I hadn't fully considered previously.

Cody Curtin? Thought he was being touted as a top 20 prospect earlier this year, has kicked several bags, why has he fallen down the pecking order?

Moves like a garbage truck. Feel like hes unfairly dropped down draft boards. He might even go undrafted now which seems crazy. Could be pick 1 MSD if he does.

Plonk the fat full forward in the goal square and watch him become a cult favourite.
Worked before.

Clearly got talent, get him on the track and drop the baby fat and we could have ourselves a winner. McGovern Mk II.

What am I missing with Beau Addinsall? Gives me serious Lachie Neale vibes and given his output I'd have him top 15, but seeing a lot of 20-40 rankings?

Somewhere, Scotty Cummings's spidey senses are tingling.
That's probably numbness from a circulation problem

He’s very good, I’d bid on him at 13, I’ve been saying for a while the reason I want to bid on Patterson and Uwland early is to be able to reach on Addinsall.

He’s the best pure mid left at that range and is a great leader.

One of the real problems with the system is that talls develop slower than smalls but the development pathways are based on age - so your talls aren't really properly tested, while your smalls haven't really been exposed to equivalent developed taller players.

Means junior footy can't truly match the dynamics of senior footy.

On age, I'd like to see rules (but would require a less compromised draft) where players can only be drafted directly out of juniors in the first round - after that they have to have played 20+ games at league level or 3 years on a league list in the VFL/SANFL/WAFL etc (or be 21 if they've not been in the football system).

There were a huge amount of melts when we passed on Valente.

Just goes to show that the key is how they develop, some never do much better when they turn professional.

He's got too heavy. Has good endurance over the 2km and burst pace is fine but his repeat efforts aren't there at the moment and at times he's looked seriously fatigued.
