That's a strange hill to die on no matter what way you look at it.
I think it’s strange to imply the only way to be a good ruck is to have a 102cm vertical, even more so when the ruck with the 102 cm vertical never won a flag, (despite individual success and a pretty decent resume.)

Scoffing at CDT because he doesn’t have Naitanuis leap is equally strange hill to die on…. No matter what way you look at it.

I know where you're coming from, but it's worded poorly.

I'd also argue that without Naitanui we wouldn't have even been in a position to challenge for a flag in the first place.

West Coast Eagles CEO Don Pyke says keeping picks one and two at AFL Draft is club’s main priority

“The strong likelihood is we will take one and two unless something unbelievable came out with one of those offers. You never say never, but at this point we get the opportunity to take the best two young men in the draft and that’s what we’ll look to do,” Pyke said at the club’s announcement that Allianz Australia had signed a four-year sponsorship deal.
“We get to pick the top two. If one of those lads happens to be linked to one of the Academies, there will be a matching issue, or if it’s a father-son. We get to pick the crop, which is not a situation we’ve been in often. The first two is a significant part of what we want to do going forward.”
“We’re working through what that looks like. We’ve got 34 and 41. If we’re able to bundle some picks and maybe move forward, that is a strategy we’ll look at.
“We’ve got one, two and 13. We think the availability of the players at 13 will still be really strong, and we can get another quality young player.”

You'd best hope you were trying to pick the 2 best kids in the country if thats your stance. Would be rather typical of us to somehow **** this up but I trust big man Duane

this is like saying Jobe Shanahan is shit because he’s not Buddy

We're talking in the context of Naitanui coaching and his ruck advice being kind of useless when advising orthodox ruck talents like Duff-Tytler.

I've long been critical of CDT being described as a unicorn, and he's been positively compared to Luke Jackson and even somehow Jeremy Cameron. But any comparison to Naitanui taken out of context is obviously a step too far?

If the Pick 9 deal with the Blues comes true, there looks to be some good options on the board of even a good slider. Any thoughts who we might be looking at?
Dream scenario Sharp or Farrow, Grlj, Dovaston in that order for me. Need players that can kick the ball so that’s why I’ve opted for farrow ahead of the other two. That leaves Duursma cdt Taylor Robey cumming most likely off the board already.

GC, Brisbane and Carlton would be quietly swearing at that comment
I think Brisbane will be safe because it would have been part of the discussions in the Starcevich & Dev deal. I reckon we will bid on one of Uwland or Patterson and Richmond the other, with Essendon bidding on Dean.

Cleary Robey? Last week it was CDT. I have no idea who they want and I doubt you know either. They will not do pick 5 or 6 + an F1. You could persuade their F1 alone. Is this what you want ? There is not a hope in hell you get both. Pick 1 would not get you both.
The question is what are Essendon willing to offer for CDT, or Robey. F1 will not get that done. Nowhere near it.

We have all the cards. Its up to Essendon to pay well overs if they want pick 2.

I like the idea of more picks = more chance of success.
However the fact that no one can settle on a similar top 10 means the spread idea is fraught with danger. In a vacuum you are taking Hodge (1) vs Polak(4), Clarke(5) & Sampi(6). And that was in the strongest draft of all time without any bidding.

Duursma while being the "best" at the moment is also the surest to be at least a decent 150+ gamer. From where I sit, there's proper bust potential for a lot of guys mooted to go top 10 with Taylor & Cumming being top of the list.

Yeah, I guess I don't really have too many concerns that a top 10 pick isn't going to make it as an AFL player. Some don't. Plenty enough pick 1's haven't too. If you knew before the draft who'd they'd be you'd steer clear but recruiting departments have yet to refine that science to a 100% success rate. Take 6 in 2 years I think probably for sure one of them is a bust, kind of inclined to think you still come out ahead as opposed to taking 4.

Not gonna lie, kinda hoping posting that article would lessen all the delusional pick 1 and/or 2 trade scenarios filling up all the pages

Realise that's pretty futile though

Well then find a quote from Don where he doesn't say "we're taking picks 1&2 UNLESS WE GET AN AMAZING OFFER."

Club is still absolutely fielding offers imo. What else is he going to say?

Such a shocking draft cohort that Richmond trying to ditch picks 3 & 4 for future unknown picks.
Meanwhile posters on here losing their minds that we didn't make a 6th main list spot available and might lose out on one of Williams or not-top-50 rated Banfield/Evans if a bid comes.

I understand your point, but here’s the issue with what you’ve posted - if we miss out on one of Evans/Banfield purely because we don’t have the list spot to match, then we’re filling that spot with an even later rookie draft selection

All we needed to do was move Cripps to the rookie list just as Sydney have done with Rampe - by doing so we create an extra main list spot at the expense of a rookie list opening.

If there’s no bid on one, or both, of Evans/Banfield then all the bed wetting over the magical 6th spot will have been pointless. But it’s a potential problem that had a relatively easy solution which is why I’ve been so annoyed by it

TLDR - a 6th selection in the main draft is going to be superior to a rookie draft selection with the only difference being a 2 year v 1 year contract

Whether he is our option or not he is very impressive as a speaker…

He dodged a question from the Korn this morning along the lines of “ are there any clubs you want to avoid going to , like west coast as they’re a basket case”?

Answered it perfectly ( well apart from not telling him to F off)
