Just off the top of my head we recruited Venables (over Powell-Pepper), Brander, O’Neill, Petruccelle, Bailey Williams and Rioli from outside WA in that period

Partington and Cole in 2015

Chesser over Johnston in 2021

Prioritising WA players hasn’t really been the case
Dropped top 2/3 a couple of times to skipped over Vic talent (Sheezel/Warsaw or Jagga/Smillie/Langford) for later WA talent (Ginbey or Allen). Definitely WA centric there.

I'm huge on Robertson, the kid can play. Macrae not some much. I think he's too slow. Time will tell.

Partially agree but at least he can win the ball and his disposal is good (from a limited sample size).

Time will indeed tell, don't think he'll tear the competition apart obviously but we need role players in that age demographic. Bigger fan of him than Will Phillips who went about 15 picks above him in the same draft.

You’re advocating CDT aren’t you? So the more apt comparisons are to the forward/ruck types taken very early rather than to Bont, Buddy or Dusty. And there have been plenty of drafting disasters in that regard…

Tom Boyd as pick one in 2013.
Jonathan Patton at pick one in 2011.
Peter Wright at pick 8 in 2014.
Josh Schache at pick 2 in 2015.
Kepler Bradley at pick 6 in 2003.

Some of these guys were more forward than ruck, some were entirely forwards and Bradley ended up more as a defender. But CDT had only moderate impact as a ruck in the under 18 championships, and he’s undersized as a ruck. So there’s a real chance he needs to make it as a KPP, a position in which he’s entirely unproven.
I'm not advocating for anyone. I'm just pointing out that pre draft CV is not necessarily the best criteria to determine who to draft.

The winners of the semi finals, prelim finals and grand final, were the teams that won the clearances in those games
Why does that mean we need a specialist inside bull?

vs just having a balanced midfield with a bunch of players who are still great at contested work but can also do other things?

I think we need to remove any fanciful thinking of getting 5, 6 and an F1 from Essendon. It's not happening. That's likely to be 5, 6 and 1-4.

It doesn't matter how desperate Essendon are for CDT, they're not going to enrage their supporter base to do it

Good point, I agree. The proposed swap was 5, 6 and F1 for pick 1 though [which would be Duursma] 13, and probably one of our F2s. Does that sound more realistic?

Great, five results where the winner was known well before 3QT in four of them.

In the first week of finals, GWS won clearances by 6 against Hawthorn, Freo won clearances by 8 against Gold Coast, Adelaide by 2 against Collingwood. Guess who won those games.

Always better to win a clearance than not (duh) but it's not the be all and end all.

Are you taking the piss or just trolling

Brisbane Dunkley neale
Not really specialist inside bulls, Neale has his team cover for him a lot so I wouldnt consider him quite in that category. Dunkley plays defensive, im sure he can be what we want Sharp to be but he just doesnt do that.
Pies long crisp
Long maybe, but they found him off the delist pile. Hes ok, a role player.
We can find a role player too, dont need to spend pick 2 on it
Cats danger atkins
Lol no. Youre joking right?
Danger is no more of a specialist inside bull than Harley
Crows don't and that's why they got smashed at the contest in finals.
But they dont have, they still were top team on the ladder
Gws green
Hawks newcombe
Suns Davies rowell
Rowell
Freo serong Fyfe
I mean what planet are you on with this comment.

I think we have room for an X factor SF in our line up.
We dont have 1 and several of the names mentioned probably wont make it.
Pickett looks the best at mid 2nd round.

Dewar will need to improve greatly to be first choice player and excells around the wing.
Hewett will be a mid/HF rotating player long term ad probably the best of all the names mntioned.
Long will be unlikely to make it.
Williams is more a HF with elite speed and working up the ground.
Evans is an X factor mid who probably rotates forward similar to Hewett.
Walley is an unknown but the closest to Ryan if he can put up a better season.
Davis is a true wing who can play that goal kicking HF.
Hutch will play HF as well.
Champion may make it.

None are X factor SF's like Ryan and most likely depth and many not on the list in 2-3 years.
Amongst our NGA's we have a huge opening for that X factor SF and it will be a battle of many over the next couple of years.
Champion, Walley, McGlade are the 3 that look to have the most potential as SF X factor players and they will be tried and progressed until they do or don't make it, but are they any better than Pickett?

Newton and Champion both have those X factor traits.

So does Williams. And Walley.

Can't have too many in the same team either.

Committing to Dev and Macrae - does this suggest we aren't looking at Sharp?
There's two ways of looking at it. We're either looking to players like Dev and Macrae to fill that role so we can draft for other roles (CDT). Or we recognise a weakness and are recruiting ready made players while Sharp develops.

I don't think we really learn anything from these moves.

Agreed - I suspect these two were simply the best quality mature players, in a position of need admittedly, that were available and willing to relocate to Perth for a rookie contract.

With picks 1 and 2 in the draft we must go best available. Later picks, FA, trades etc to fill needs.

I think Macrae would be good competition for Hutchinson as well, and may even be able to play on the opposite flank if we do have issues with our forwards.

If he gets his body right, he could be useful depth at worst, and easily slot into our 18 at best.

If.

Anything better than reliable experienced WAFL minutes is a huge bonus for McRae.

Think it’ll do our young mids wonders to not have to be the primary ball winner and creator and distributor all in one, against opposition midfields of senior WAFL players.

A bit of rookie list support for the Beagles mids, Ash Johnson taking the oppo’s best KPD - developing the kids just got a lot easier.

If he is so undeniably good that he breaks into the AFL side, happy days, but I’m perfectly content with using these rookie spots as an upside play WAFL option.

Quality individual. Elite preparer. Runs all day. Good
footballer, just doesn't have a weapon.

Seeing as CDT and Krasnadamskis are very very similar stats wise id take the latter over the former. Ive trained so many rucks in my time as a coach 90% of the ones good below their knees is because they cant mark. what good is being 200cm if you cant mark
Draft watchers I've spoken to about this say his inability to mark is being blown out of proportion.

As the year went on, I was told he improved exponentially in contested marking and extending the arms.
