I don't think we've drafted anyone that this forum has laser locked in on since I've been posting here anyway, with the exception of Matt Crouch, but the club telegraphed that one weeks out.

2007 it was Ebert, 2008 it was Johnston, 2009 I don't remember who it was (Tapscott maybe?) but it definitely wasn't Talia because he was gone to Carlton

Mathieson and AhChee would be a bit disappointing at our picks.

I could possibly understand Mathieson at our 2nd pick depending what is available (and only if we rule out Burton), but we'd certainly want one of Francis, Milera, Oliver, McKay at 9.

I thought there was at least equals on Cockatoo, hence the hand wringing all year. Lever was a surprise to most as I recall.

I don't like H McKay at pick 9 either personally. If you're 200cm, you need to be able to provide a chopout in the ruck and / or take contested marks if you're a full time forward - not necessarily both of these things, but certainly one of them is required. McKay has shown no signs that he'll ever be able to do either of these things at an adequate level - the ruck work against 17 year olds has been nothing short of terrible, and if someone can locate footage of him taking a genuine contested mark, please let me know, because I've watched 3 or 4 full games of his and haven't seen one. Now don't get me wrong, he has attributes that should see him become a regular member of an AFL 22 - very quick and good below the knees for his height and good on the lead - but he just seems like more of a pick 18 than a pick 9 to me.

My order of preference for our two selections is as follows:

A Francis
C Curnow
C Oliver
W Milera
D Tucker
R Burton
R Mathieson
M Hibberd
K Collins
H McKay

If any of the top 3 on this list are available at 9, I'm pulling the trigger with one hand and pulling myself with the other. If we pass on any of those 3 for McKay, I will put my neck out and say we will look back on the decision with a fair amount of regret.

I'm not even remotely interested in Balic or Ah Chee - Balic isn't quick enough and doesn't win enough contested ball for me (we require one or both of these attributes) and Ah Chee is a small forward who I don't believe will ever develop into a mid, which we blatantly don't require with Betts, Cameron, Knight and Menzel all being acquired in the last couple of years. I didn't bother including Weideman or Parish (or the top 2, or any academy picks) because there is no chance of any of them being available to us.

Bottom line: if one of Francis, Curnow or Oliver falls to us, whoever we take at 13 is just gravy.

It doesn't quite sound like it but I think it means the player takes the ball at the highest point that the player is capable of - timing their jump so they at their highest with arms outstretched above when they take the ball.
Makes it very hard for another player to reach the ball first unless he's taller or can jump higher.

It is literally a game of chess and the players are far smarter in terms of positioning and set plays and method of positional movement than we give them credit for.

My business partner deals with colin young through WACA & from what you can call rumours through that road carlton was trying very hard to get Gov in the gibbs trade. This was a major contributing factor to the break down & carlton will need to pay overs by a long shot for a deal to get over the line.

This has led to both parties being at odds and his management looking at incoming offers from cashed up clubs, ahead of his free agency at the end of 2019. I think that it meant that they players mark it at the height of their jump in reference to their timing.............. otherwise I don't get it either.

All writers seem have him going to either Essendon or Gold Coast, and no chance of being available any later.
 
I saw quite a bit of Frances in the pre-season and the games he played for West in the league.
Has a great mark and reads the ball exceptionally well.In the air he's very confident in his own ability.
He can be a touch sloppy below his knees at times and some of his second efforts were average, he's not a great chaser if he gets beaten.
That should change with maturity, and the coaches and his team mates reminding him what's expected.
He's not the perfect player and is at 192cm hard to categorise. I can understand why some teams are questioning where he fits in the draft.
If picked I would be more than happy with this selection.

I can understand why Adelaide is seriously considering taking Harry McKay.
He is a very interesting prospect. His size at 200cm certainly appeals and he looks a lovely kick.
Puts him in the Dixon, Tippett, Hawkins mould. All of a sudden our forward line would have a real balance of size and speed.
True mix of large,medium and small forwards.
The Tippett, Walker combination did get us to a preliminary final and caused match up problems for a lot of teams.
As McKay bulks up a forward that size is going to be hard to stop and not too many teams will have the personnel to go with him.

Will the Crows decide to go with that structure again if both Francis and McKay are still on the board when it comes to our turn?
There's a good chance they might.

There's also the distinct possibility if Harry is gone of taking Francis and Ben McKay who is also at 200cms and improving with every match.
Trouble is we lost our best clearance player and he definitely needs replacing.
This is going to be an interesting draft and I've change my picks quite a few times already and might again.

I know the AFC were going to catch up with him in Adelaide rather than the draft camp so I hope they do get an edge. Also Liptak did the surgery.
