Wow if you think team selection has been fine, then you're in the minority here. We're not talking about the retrospectoscope here, we're talking about selections that most thought would go wrong before the game and almost invariably did. Some real howlers. Was selecting Wright for 16 matches justified? His delisting proves it wasn't, and most here knew it at the time even if the selectors didn't.
There is a downside for supporters - we lose matches we could have potentially won.

As for the rest of your post, can't disagree - we've really lifted our game. And we're all armchair critics, thats the definition of a board like this.

I wanted Wright gone earlier and I wanted Mackay gone.

But I'm willing to understand why they were chosen, even if I disagree. They coaching team wanted mature players who understood our system and could play their role.

Personally, I think that was a mistake, and would have preferred talent and the future to be prioritized. But I'm fine with why they made the decision, even if I disagreed.

I want any two of Francis, Milera, Harry McKay, Oliver and (last choice) Burton.

A quality mid seems hard to land around our two picks, despite being a huge need. I'm happy if there is another mid that Ogilvie really rates for either pick.

reckon the grand plan was that once knight got fit that he would be given opportunity to knock wright off if wrights form was poor and same for atkins v mackay
that was pretty much exactly what happened , unfort atkins got burnt out at finals time and the mistake was reverting to mackay instead of grigg or anyone

depth in those positions has now been addressed, can't see mackay getting near it at selection next season unless injuries or really bad form by others

Who would you take at 9 based on his draft then? Francis, Milera, McKay all gone. Keep in mind that Balic/Mathieson/Tucker are all generally coming up as selections at pick 13, not 9.

EDIT: I agree with your assessment though about him maturing early and outmuscling the smaller kids. Doesn't really look like a fair fight.

Your posting on selection makes no sense, first it's fine and then it isn't. And those criticising selection have been proven right, we wanted to move away from players like Wright and Mackay and we did and we prospered.

Itll be pick 12 at least.
He could move onto a wing after a few preseasons.
Draft talent
Don't know about that. He has the pace and the X factor but doesn't find it enough and not versatile enough. We've already got a couple of his types (forwards who we hope will move into the midfield or wing in time). Not to mention that those types of players are notorious failures early in teh draft. Never live up to their draft position.

He actually performed better this year in the WAFL with more talent around him than he did in the u18s.
We probably only have 1 maybe 2 on our list in that category in Cameron and now Menzel.

turn him into a midfielder , he's an absolute talent ...I'd have him ranked after mckay, francis and milera because he's got as much raw talent as anyone in this draft ....and he's a different style of forward being marking/lead up as well as crumbing

milera v ah chee is pretty close, milera only just gets the nod if it comes down to the two of them

Its a pity we don't have another pick around 18-22.. Riley Bonner looks the goods but its not what we need as a priority right now.
Forward and Mid are what we will/must use for our pick 9 and 13.

I think we have better options at 9 and 13. I think hel end up being alot like brad/josh hill, needs to improve his tank. Can jump to the clouds. His brother goes alright from what ive seen watching his games at port. If we had a pick in the late teens , early 20s id be all for it. Just seems abit of a reach.

So going by what ive seen and heard over the weekend curnow is who melbourne want at pick 3. Parish should go to essendon at 4. They will then take weideman with 5 if his medical comes back solid. Hopefully gc and melbourne spring a surprise and select somebody like balic, ah chee, tucker, collins or mathieson. Then carlton select mckay, leaving us with a choice of francis, milera, burton and oliver.:D

Ideal scenario would be Milera or Francis with pick 9. Either one would add some much needed polish to the side.

Pick 13 I would use on a high output midfielder. Brad Crouch is the only player capable of getting 35 touches in a game for us while Sloane and Douglas typically get 20-25 per game. Mathieson, Balic, Tucker or Oliver on the off chance he slides would be the best bet.

Cole is one who doesn't have the bigfooty fanfare but I like the look of him. Looks a good all round prospect.
Reckon M Crouch will have some big number games next year..

Haha I don't know if I want that much choice. So much potential for regret.

I reckon the best possible scenario would be Pick 9: Aaron Francis, Pick 13: Clayton Oliver OR if he is already taken then Darcy Tucker
Agree on Francis and Oliver but not convinced with Tucker. Not a fan of getting a HBF with a 1st round pick and I am not convinced he can play in the midfield.

Whilst I agree in looking for a high level mid - I would be more focussed on players who have the polish to make their possessions count.

B Crouch can rack it up and use it well.

M Crouch and Thompson rack up the numbers, but it isn't always a great thing when they do.

Quality>>>>>Quantity for me
