We do like our mids to be able to play in other areas of the ground (M. Crouch probably the exception) but if you look at Dangerfield, Smith, Sloane, Douglas etc....all these draftees can play in other areas of the ground. This is why I think the likes of Balic would be higher up our rankings. Personally, if we are going down this path, I like Clarke. Knows how to find the footy (and plenty of it), has a strong defensive side to his game and is a goal kicker when he rests forward. He just seems to fit the prototype of the type of player we like to look at.Balic is an interesting one if we were to go mid I think Mathieson would be the pick. Purely based on the fact he is a true mid and his supposed aggression.
A true mid and only a mid type like Mathieson (I know he has pushed forward a bit but can he do it at AFL level) is probably what we wouldn't want. There is only so many of those that you can carry in the team. We already have M. Crouch who is penciled in for that role going forward (taking over from Thompson).
