Also really want us to upgrade our 2nd piclk and get it before pick 25 .... Get in the mix for Burton Gresham hibberd Ben McKay himmelberg etc ...killed me missing out on Maynard last year

Don't like that Tucker's stagnated/gone backwards this year. Never a good sign. When guys play the whole year and still drop down the order, be wary. Feel like he's a run straight half back flanker too which is not really worth a first round pick. Good kick though.

McKay has good traits; quick and agile for a 200cm guy and almost a bottom ager but I don't think his skills are up to that of a 1st rounder.

Serious question, have you seen Darcy Tucker play??

I get along to quite a few Rebels games and he's much more than what you describe honestly.

Your comment "run straight half back flanker" is just so far off the mark it's pretty obvious if you have seen him play you couldn't have been paying attention too closely. He's super quick, a fierce tackler, his run and carry and line breaking is top shelf, along with having excellent evasive skills and a neat side step.....you're right he is a good kick though I'd personally class his kicking as elite. He's also a very aggressive and uncompromising character on the football field and is a recognised leader by his teammates captaining the Rebels this year[Very much like Jake Lever in that regard]. He'll be ready to go from year one off half back or the wing and will in time transition into the midfield if required.

The two most respected Draft Watchers on BF Knightmare and Skippos both have him going in the 1st round at 11 and 13 and Gary Buckenara rated him in his top ten draftees in this years draft.

Taken from Emma Quayle's Draft Harvester

Darcy Tucker (23/01/1997. 184cm, 78kg. North Ballarat Rebels)

Medium defender/midfielder

AFL biography: Left footed medium midfielder who loves to run and carry and distribute the ball. Very good with his hands in contested situations, regularly disposing the ball effectively via hand to his team mates. Averaged 17.5 possessions, 9.8 handball received and 2.7 inside 50s in six games at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. All-Australian at Under-18 level in 2014. Member of NAB AFL Academy. Has averaged 24 disposals with the Rebels this year.

"Darcy's had a good year. He's had some quiet games and his challenge has been his consistency, but he's done well. We've tried him in a few different positions - midfield, on the wing and at half back - and I think he'll be that running, attacking half-back flanker who can really use his run and carry to create a lot of forward entries. He's an outstanding leader, a real professional. He's been my intern this year and he's been doing our opposition analysis and learning the game and that's going to put him in really good stead once he gets to a club. He's a good all round package and the club that picks Darcy is going to get a really committed kid who wants to work hard and be a good player."

I like the sound of this Harry McKay kid. Draft the key forward, let him develop in the SANFL for 2-3 years and have a replacement when Text and Jenkins get towards the end of their career. If we get top 10 pick from Geelong, we need to get a good tall to put in the bank for the long run.

203 years might be a bit long of a wait ;)

I have to ask: Are you related or involved in a relationship with Darcy Tucker?

If no: Would you like to be?

Mate, go back through this thread and read how many Bicks posts there are about Darcy Tucker. How can you not have a laugh about it?

He rates him as a player like I rated Garry McIntosh back in the day, I've met him and no I don't want a physical relationship [emoji4]

With McIntosh? I'd hope not, a face only a mother could love. Handball skill we could all appreciate.

There's rating a player and there's going over the top. Way over the top. I'll back off but I'll still be laughing on this side of the keyboard.

No and No.

I guess I should have expected that kind of answer from you given a previous post which I rightly ignored.

The two players I had seen and thought would have been a good fit for the AFC last year Liam Duggan and Oscar McDonald both played AFL in their first season and contrary to what some posters on here thought Liam Duggan in particular went higher than they predicted and was going really well for the WCE until his unfortunate injury. Oscar did well in the VFL and showed promise in his couple of AFL games at the end of the season, especially given young KPD's don't often even get games in their rookie year. I'll be happy to revisit this thread with you in 2 or 3 years time when we'll both know definitively who was right and who was wrong.

I'm not commenting on a player I've never seen that's why I take your comments on Ryan Burton on face value and for the record I won't have any problem if the AFC guys select him either because I will be comfortable in the fact they will have done their due diligence on his horrific injury and from what I've read by "good" judges he was a supreme talent before the injury. I just think we need a Darcy Tucker type player or his like with elite speed and elite kicking and I feel Darcy in particular can free up Brodie Smith to the midfield to replace Dangerfield's speed but with better delivery.

Punching well above his weight with his lovely wife.

Anyone thought of Mason Redman as a potential 2nd round draft pick? Looks as if he may fall around around the 34-40 mark so probably around where we will be once all FA compensation is arranged, assuming we don't trade our 2nd rounder off.

I think he has reasonable upside for a player around this mark.
187cm Forward/Midfielder looked like he competed well in the U18 champs even though he lacked a bit of bulk compared to other kids.
From what has been observed from others so far it seems he has good disposal and poise, as well as a good mark. We seem to lack this sort of player with elite disposal and good mark that are vital for ball movement through the midfield as opposed to just winning the ball out of stoppages and butchering it. (i.e. Too many BoBs and Lyons).

DISCLAIMER: I do know the dude so take what I saw with a grain of salt, but I will say he's a good character all around.

Really liked him .....clean, smart, good hands .....reminds of Scott Welsh :thumbsu:

If we get Geelongs #9 .....my two preferred picks are declared (Burton as the outsider)

Charlie Curnow (3/2/1991. 191cm, 95kg. Geelong Falcons)

Tall forward/midfielder

AFL biography: Powerful tall forward/midfielder who is extremely athletic, strong overhead and dangerous near goals. Showed potential for the NAB AFL Academy against VFL opposition earlier this year before a dislocated knee kept him out of the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. Returned to TAC Cup football with Geelong Falcons in the last four matches, kicking 13 goals and showcasing his potential as a marking forward. Brother of Carlton's Ed.

"When the AFL clubs came around at the start of the year - without knowing what was coming ahead - I said Charlie could potentially be the No. 1 pick. He won't be, because he missed the national championships and there are some fantastic kids around - but I haven't changed my mind that much. He's the youngest of five kids and a bit of a free spirit. He goes to uni and loves his surfing, but he has massive upside. He's a fantastic athlete - he has some unbelievable times under his belt on the athletics track and he's a good high jumper, but he's still learning how to use it on the footy field. We've had him play full-back, centre half-back, centre half-forward and full-forward for us, but at the start of the year when he was really fit we had him playing as a ruck rover. He's carrying a bit of puppy fat and freaks the clubs out a bit, but keep saying hang on, he's an 18-year-old kid. Once he gets to a club he'll knuckle down and work hard. He's got massive upside."

Michael Turner, Geelong Falcons talent manager

Harry McKay (24/12/1997. 200cm, 85kg. Gippsland Power)

Tall forward

AFL biography: Left footed tall forward/ruckman who has great pace and agility for a player of his size. His ability to mark as a lead up forward is also a feature of his game. Had a standout performance against South Australia at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships and was a consistent performer throughout. Won All-Australian Under-18 honours this year. Twin brother Ben also invited to NAB AFL Draft Combine.

"Harry's really quick and athletic. He's got a little bit of Buddy Franklin about him in the way he wheels onto his left and he's got good agility as well, nice hands. He's a pretty exciting package when you combine all those things together. We see him as a key forward but he's got that ability to get up the ground as well."

Peter Francis, Gippsland Power talent manager

I think we should steer clear of Curnow, there was an article about how he had to deal with Ed (brother) being cut from the Crows and he saw how much it hurt him. Might be a bit of resentment there, would probably be a flight risk.

Don't forget the last star Hawthorn drafted was Cyril in 2007. That's a very long time ago.

They've won these flags on the back of a bunch of early picks they had when they were woeful, some brilliant trading and free agency.

IMO still take best available .....depends on the hurt was over his delisting or how it was done by the club ....Curnow can be something special ...IMO a great midfield option and a bit like Cripps
