good to see haysman tearing up the combine. another good player flying under the radar a bit. probably go fairly late

Would love to get this kid into the club. He will play a lot of AFL footy I have no doubt. Zoomer Mach2.

Whilst that looks true now, I can guarantee you the one big question mark on Knight before being drafted was his disposal. It is something he worked incredibly hard on as all recruiters had told him it was a weakness.

Haysman's disposal is of similar quality at the same stage imho
Really? He's one of the best kicks in our team!!!

Rookie at best , has Gresham and Snelling in front of him....state combine invitees are a bit unlikely this year

I think Jordan Dawson from Sturt gets drafted before haysman

Talking of great kicks, young Riley Bonner has been listed in the phantom draft. This kid can play, great kick, good lateral movement, a lefty and quick. Will be better than milera..... Can just tell
Considering we've just recruited two fairly young, tall running half backs, I would be more than surprised if we picked up Bonner. It's funny how he's regarded as 'the best kick in the draft'. If you look at his U18 highlights, he regularly turns the ball over. Also didn't score well in the kicking test at the combine.

We now have 12 players on our list who are non KP defenders. Feel like that area's fairly well accounted for. Which also counts out Darcy Tucker for all the enthusiasts out there.

Bonner missed the combine through injury. But yeh, not someone I can see us throwing pick 9 or 13 at.

My take is the points will be calculated on the positon of the team making the offer .......GC could bid their pick 3 or Hawthorn could bid pick 18 on Hopper

The points would be calculated on GC pick if they do bid ....if they don't

The Points would be calculated on Hawthorn's pick .....big variance on points required for GWS to get Hopper
So if Adelaide are the first club to bid on both Hopper and Kennedy with pick 9 (which would subsequently turn into pick 10 and then 11), GWS are getting players 7, 8, 9 and 10 in the draft - not a bad haul.

Not sure Kennedy will be bid on that early.

The best scenario for us would be if Hopper gets bid on at pick 3. This would then force GWS to match with pick 7 (if they choose to but you would image that they would) and slide their pick 8 back to 10 which would bump our pick 9 up to 8.

.
No they don't get two extra picks .....they'd have to use picks 8 & 9 only in that scenario

Nope we trade for outside players (Seedsman & Hampton) .....we do not use 9 & 13

They're reserved for inside competitive beasts & KPP

If no-one has bid on Hopper by the time it is GWS's pick, are they obliged to pick him (having nominated him) up there at #7?

The whole discussion around "now they have Pick 8 & 9" is irrelevant. They have the same pool of players to choose from.

Take last year. Melbourne bid on Heeney with Pick 2. Sydney matched (and were allowed to pick him at 18). So at Pick 2, Melbourne had their choice of player (bar McCartin).

This year's system: McCartin goes at #1, Melbourne bid on Heeney - Sydney match as #2. Melbourne have the exact same pool they did before. The only difference this year is Sydney wouldn't have pick 37 to use on James Rose.

If no one has bid on Hopper or Kennedy by pick 7 then GWS can use picks 7 and 8 on who ever they like. If bids come for Hopper and Kennedy at picks 9 and 10 then GWS would have the option of matching those using later picks giving them picks 7, 8, 9 (Hopper) and 10 (Kennedy). This would more than likely put them into deficit next year though which they may not want to do.

No, GWS are not obliged to use pick 7 on any of their academy players if no bid has come before then just because they have nominated them as an academy player - just like Carlton aren't obliged to use pick 1 on Jack Silvagni just because the have nominated him as a father-son.

If no nominations come for the academy players before their clubs pick it then then allows that club to pick a player out of "the common pool" and take the academy player using later picks.

David Noble talking up the SA prospects of Francis and Milera. Seems we're a strong chance to take both if Francis is available at 9 (not sure if he'll slip through to 9) and Milera is available at 13 (this seems more of a chance than Francis slipping to 9). He mentioned not having to relocate them, seems we might be taking note of players based on where they come from more seriously compared to just taking the best available player.

^^that would the logical draft strategy. Cant believe people are throwing around the names of young Victorians when there are SA kids rated around the same pick.

Its groundhog day.

Seriously why would he telegraph to other clubs who our targets are in the draft other than in a general sense.....wouldn't be putting to much faith in that, having said that I'd love to get Francis but just can't see it happening, Milera I'm not sold on especially if we trade in Menzel.

I'm not sure. He didn't confirm anything, but expressed strong interest in the home town lads. I'm certain that if Francis is available at pick 9, we'll take him, but as I said in my post I'm not sure he'll slip through that far, it's very doubtful he will. If we trade out pick 28, we might be better suited to grab a KP player or even look at a legitimate player who can cover Jacobs with one of our first rounders and that might end up happening rather than a Francis and a Milera. Although, without doing any research, I'm unsure of what ruck stocks are available and would be worth getting with a pick 13.

No rucks worthy of early round picks, that Sudanese youngster Gach Nyuon could be the only dedicated ruck drafted.
Think we'll be all over Harrison McKay a 200cm KPF/Ruck with our picks.

McKay and the best mid/running player with our 1sts, then trade Mackay&Wright to Melbourne for a pick to get the other McKay?!

We have 3 more than capable rucks, no need for another. McKay looks a very handy tall forward capable of playing the 2nd ruck role (200cm). About 5% chance at best of Francis being there.

If Menzel does come in, it more likely rules out Burton rather than Milera. Milera stepped into the midfield this year and looked very much at home, that's what he would be drafted as.

I doubt he'll be there at 13 though. Would probably need to use 9.

I feel we should take a developing KPP with 9, preferably in order McKay, Weideman or Collins who all look to be low risk?
I feel our KPF depth especially is a real need with Dear the only one in reserve and he's far from guaranteed to make it yet with the added worry his shoulder history.
Collins will almost certainly be there at 13. McKay probably as Geelong were keen but now don't have a pick. Same with Weideman and Collingwood. No doubt one of them will be there. Milera's a mid with speed and footskills, just as much a need as a KPP. And he's local.
