SAM LANDSBERGER’S EARLY TOP 10

1. Jacob Weitering (Carlton) 195cm key defender

2. Josh Schache (Brisbane Lions) 199cm key forward

3. Callum Mills (Sydney) 188cm midfielder*

4. Jacob Hopper (GWS Giants) 186cm midfielder*

5. Darcy Parish (Melbourne) 181cm midfielder

6. Matthew Kennedy (GWS Giants) 187cm midfielder*

7. Wayne Milera (Essendon) 185cm half-forward

8. Charlie Curnow (Essendon) 191cm midfield/forward

9. Eric Hipwood (Brisbane Lions) 202cm swingman*

10. Clayton Oliver (Gold Coast) 187cm midfielder

*Academy selection

Marking forward Harry McKay is unlikely to get past Carlton (No. 8) and Adelaide (9).

McKay — whose identical twin Ben should be taken in the top 25 — stands 200cm but doesn’t turn 18 until Christmas Eve.

Not sure we would be keen on a twin who's brother will most likely be interstate

Mathieson although he is a prolific ball winning mid doesnt impress me very much at all. Looks like hes always falling over and shanks alot of his kicks. Will go in the top 15, to either carlton, essendon or melbourne.
Hibberd looks like a mix of smith and burchall. Will imo become a very good player. I think hel slip to hawthorn along with collins and alot of recruiters will wish they had their time again.

If it's accurate, it's probably unlikely he gets past Melbourne and Carlton at 7 & 8. Unless melbourne decide they already have a midfielder so want a forward and Carlton decide they already have a defender so want a midfielder or forward.

Wonder if Burton is off the crows radar because of the cat b rookies? Greenwood and Keath both tall / 3rd forwards , which is a possie burton would cover. Would like burton, but I see these 2 as similar. So I'm thinking McKay (weidaman, francis) and Oliver (tucker, Milera ) eg a tall and a mid is what we'll end up with.
There is a galaxy between cat B rookies and the top end of the draft. If we get 50 games out of a cat B rookie it would be a great success. I think we'd all be disappointed if that's what we got out of pick 9 or 13.

Our draft right now is in the hands of Essendon, Melbourne and Gold Coast. They have us by the nuts. We will either get Milera/Francis/Oliver at pick 9. Hope we take a one KPP at least.

Prior to breaking his leg Burton was ahead of those two. Every club has Jake Stringer in their heads and so we might be happy to take him.
He performed well at the combine, where as Stringer hobbled around and was almost lame.

Whilst the fracture is to the same bone, very different injuries with very different consequences. Tibial tibial plateau fractures, as Burtons supposedly was are not good news at all.

If we manage to get Francis, he'll be playing Round 1, much like Brodie Smith seamlessly slotted into the side. He's way too good to be sitting in the seconds. I refuse to believe Francis will be playing the year out in the reserves. Francis can literally play anywhere on the park as well.. Completely fits the Pyke prototype,.. Hope to god he's available, because if he is, Smith won't be relied upon at HBF & it just has that domino effect for other positions.

We could have the option of playing Hampton & Seedsman on the wing with Brodie on the ball, pace everywhere.

Brown Talia Lever
Laird Hartigan Francis
Seedsman Thompson Smith
Cameron Walker Lynch
Betts Jenkins Menzel
Jacobs Sloane B. Crouch

Int: M. Crouch, Knight, Douglas, Lyons
Emg: Henderson, Hampton, Grigg

Depth: Gore, Jaensch, MacKay, Otten, O'brien, vb, Cey, Atkins, Shaw, Wigg, Pick 13

Depth & emergencies looks fairly good, they are all decent players. Need another kPF& KPD though, not confident on Ramsey, hope he proves me wrong. Then there's Keath & Greenswood, Dear.

Good thing is that we have years to fix this, our teams still so young. All we need to do is get the ball into that forward line more often than not, because that forward line right there is downright kicking goals out of no where if you give them half a chance.

Hopefully we get Francis, McKay, Milera, Oliver, Burton

Any two of those would do, realistically we may only need to tinker with 2-3 positions otherwise it looks very good.

We're almost building a money ball style team with the recruitment of Hampton and Seedsman, those two could be anything.

Drafting thread I know... Got too carried away with naming Francis in the team!

Party at Sando's place if by some black magic one of Francis or Milera slide to us

Hurry up and give us an academy already

I'll take any money anyone wants to put up .....we will not take Tucker !

Seeing we've interviewed him twice, and he has a lot of character qualities we like... i wouldn't be so confident.

Yes ....and we're not a strong marking side either thru the mids or as Forwards

Tex and Jenkins not great contested marks

Dangerfield was our premier contested mark thru the midfield ....gone

It's a definite list weakness

And yet the most likely player that would be that contested mark in the midfield, you're adverse to taking. (I'd be very surprised if we didn't develop Francis into a midfielder.)

Who ? ....Francis ?

I've always assumed Francis is not in our frame for selection .......if he is, then you have to ask why he's dropping down the trade order?

It just depends on who's available at our pick ? ......that's still a very murky picture

Curnow > Oliver > Francis > Milera > Burton ........but hell there's so little in it that you'd be happy with any of those

I still expect Weideman to drop .....would be interesting to know the clubs perspective on:

Weideman v Mackay ?

VERY Confident .....another Wigg draftee 2 years running ....Tucker not likely

You may not agree with Phantom Drafts & I think they're finger in the air jobs for most interstate sides ....but our draftees have always had good write ups .....Tippetts sounded like a #1 draft pick ?

QUOTE: Knightmare Phantom Draft
50.
Darcy Tucker (VIC – MID/DEF)
Height: 184cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 23/01/1997
Recruited from: North Ballarat Rebels
Reminds me of: Sam Docherty
Brief bio: Tucker’s weapon is his run and carry ability. Tucker is not a freakish athlete, but a very good all-round athlete with good pace, endurance and leaping ability. In game he displays good pace and can provide some good run and carry when the space is open in front of him. Tucker is a capable intercept mark and reads the flight reasonably well down back. He has had an excellent junior career and his production has been consistently strong throughout and his numbers again this year have been very good. From a skills perspective Tucker is a reliable kick but is not a penetrator and has limited hurt factor. Tucker is also very much an outside player, as someone who will stay on the outside looking to receive rather than going in and winning his own all, so as a result he will likely remain on a wing or back flank. I also overall see Tucker as a fairly low impact player per possession as someone who tends not to do enough damage with ball in hand, so unless he really develops an inside game, being on the outside he needs to add further hurt factor.

Sounds like a disaster if we wasted a top pick on him. Everything about that write up screams vanilla. Oliver or francis instead thanks.

Out of interest, do you know how it compares to Barlow's leg break? I recall Barlow's snapping just below the knee which sounds similar to the description of Burton's.

I have no idea the result of whether either were clean breaks or not.

I want players that have hurt factor. Players that have undoubted skill and courage. We should not accept anything less from picks 9,13. Theres a group of about 15 players we will get to choose from depending what happens largely with carlton, essendon and melbourne.

(Francis, Oliver, Milera, Curnow, Balic, Collins, Burton, Mckay, Weideman, Tucker, Bonner, Ah chee, Mathieson, Hibberd)

Id say our 2 draftees will come from this group.
