List Mgmt. Draft Watch 2015

I want players that have hurt factor. Players that have undoubted skill and courage. We should not accept anything less from picks 9,13. Theres a group of about 15 players we will get to choose from depending what happens largely with carlton, essendon and melbourne.

(Francis, Oliver, Milera, Curnow, Balic, Collins, Burton, Mckay, Weideman, Tucker, Bonner, Ah chee, Mathieson, Hibberd)

Id say our 2 draftees will come from this group.
This !!!....Hurt Factor ....Game Winning Characteristics ....."X" factor .....call it what you like

But players you refer to as the skeleton of a side .....not the flesh of a side thanks (we traded for those)

Does anyone have the details on the where and when of the draft? I'm considering going but all I can find on the AFL website is news related to the players.

edit: Found it, though I'm surprised I had to look through the articles to find the details.

The Club will go to draft with a list of 10 names, 1 and 2 will be Weitering and Schache so there is no need to list them, the Academy clubs have positioned themselves to take all their talented kids, so we won't bother with those on our list, although strategically we will bid on a GWS kids at 9 to make sure they use their pick 10 on an academy kid if they haven't already.

So we will have a list of 10 kids in order of preference and will know that the worst case scenario is we end up with the 7th and 10th kids on that list.

Name the list in order;)

the way the latest phantoms are going from 'in the know' journos, francis looks like he might slide to us like lever did. I remember reading alot of phantom drafts last year and levers name sat at 4-6 range all year. Then in the last couple of weeks his name and peter wrights name started to slip considerably in the pecking order replaced by marchbank and ahern. Even cockatoo and de goey rose up into the top 10.

Just tried to nut it out and found that if Francis slides to 9 then we prob end up picking burton at 13 (with carlton taking H Mckay at 8 or 11 and weidemann to essendon or melb at 5 or 7)

If we miss Francis then we take H Mckay at 9 and choice of milera/Oliver/ AhChee/ tucker at 13

Ie option 1 inc Francis sliding

Pick 9 Francis
Pick 13 Burton

Option 2 with Francis gone

Pick 9 H Mckay
Pick 13 Milera/Oliver

At pick 9 we either get one of Milera, Francis, Oliver or Mckay.

Does anyone else want us also to to draft both of the McKay twins. Extreme amounts of upside.

IMO, we will definitely get one of Milera/Francis/Oliver/McKay with 9. Honestly, I'm unsure with who we'll get at 13. I'd be fine with Burton if we grab Oliver or Milera, but otherwise, I'd definitely want an Ah Chee/Hibberd/Tucker type.

Burton seems to come into play if we get Francis at 9 just because McKay/ weidemann likely gone by 13 and I think we will want a key forward even if it's a medium forward like burton

Maybe there is an outside chance of us taking B McKay at 13 to get us that KP player , much more speculative though

Milera Francis Oliver McKay ...we get 1 at 9 and whoever is left there at 13

Job done ....add burton and hibberd to mix at 13 if they are all gone which is unlikely

I actually wouldn't mind it , then draft mids next 2 years ...Ben is definitely a bit more speculative however and a bit of a risk

Really interesting to see how these brothers turn out regardless

Bonus - Would give us more options in ruck further down the track as well given these kids are both going to end up 202cm+ the way they are going ( still only 17 and still growing)

IMO we really need to pick some kids who have talent now, but still fill some gaps. We don't have anyone that can play the Easton Wood role, so if Francis slides, that's a godsend. Plus, he is capable of playing many other roles. Hibberd I like because of his inside/outside balance - a lot of our mids are either pure inside or pure outside - Hibberd has the capability to become our best balanced mid, and IMO one of the best in the comp. Hopefully we can get Michael Hartley late, too - KPD who is at the least capable of being good depth, but could end up being much better than Hartigan. Even try to get Matthew Allen as a rookie - KPF now, but appears, by some reports, to have the scope to develop into a mid. A bit like Burton.

We then trade for both good KPF depth and another elite mid in 2016/17 - making us primed for that 2017-19 period, just before Jacobs/Betts/Jenkins retire (they could be replaced by O'Brien/Jarman/said KPF depth anyway). Say we get a Lachie Neale as our elite mid in the 2016 offseason, plus Francis and Hibberd. I'm banking that Knight, Menzel, MCrouch, O'Brien and Hampton develop into good players. Our 2018 team could look like this:

B: Laird, Talia, Brown
HB: Francis, Lever, Hibberd
C: Smith, Sloane, Knight
HF: Menzel, Walker, Lynch
F: Betts, Jenkins, Cameron
R: Jacobs, Neale, BCrouch
I/C: MCrouch, O'Brien, Douglas, Hampton

yeah, I like that.

i hope so, our club was at its best when the majority were SA boys, dont think we have enough atm.
Francis and Milera would be ideal for me.

Agreed.
Francis Burton Milera Bonner. All 4 are perfect for our needs, and at least 2 of the 4 will be available. No need to look interstate.

I don't want us to draft either of them. Pick #9 - midfielder. Pick #13 - midfielder.

There is a galaxy between cat B rookies and the top end of the draft. If we get 50 games out of a cat B rookie it would be a great success. I think we'd all be disappointed if that's what we got out of pick 9 or 13.
Forget 50 games, if we get 1 game out of a cat B rookie it will be a success.

The bar is set much, much higher for 1st round draft selections.

I don't put a lot of weight on the Morrish Medal, Oliver was probably helped in winning it due to not playing in the carnival or having AIS commitments.

When you look at the last few winners.

2014 Alex Carr
2013 Jacob Chisari; Ben Cavarra; George Cameron; Josh Scott
2012 Nick Graham
2011 Alex Benbow
2010 Dyson Heppell; Jackson Sketcher
2009 Anton Woods
2008 Farran Priest; Jarryd Blair
2007 Matthew Kreuzer
2006 Fortunato Caruso
2005 Fortunato Caruso

Not exactly a long history of the TAC Cup B&F going on to have an impact at AFL level.

Wow that would be unbelievable. One of Francis Milera Oliver in particular would be amazing.
