Think we will get one of Curnow / Oliver / Milera / Burton / Hibberd / Bonner ........

Looking at numbers :
as long as Weideman stays in the top 10 ......we'll get one of the first 4

If Weideman stays top 10 and a Balic / Mathieson gets selected top 10 ....we'll get one of the first 3

If Mackay Bolts and Weideman stays top 10 & Balic / Matheison gets selected ......we'll get one of first 2

I know your keen, but I hope we don't get Curnow, not convinced he will become a mid and something about him suggests go home factor to me.
I would add Tucker to that list, probably inbetween Burton and Hibberd, but Burton onwards are likely who we are looking at more for pick 13 imo.

Anyway, we've been linked to Mckay by a couple of people in the media, so I don't think we'll simply pick best available mid at 9.

The bolded part is true but you forget the fact that he has the presence of a Key Forward and demands the footy as such. Not many medium sizers do that.
Plays like Gunston .....similar size

IF body is 100% .....i believe Burton will be our draftee to lose

Take him and play him as a midfielder.
He will develop into a mid , he's not a 3rd tall

Needs a lot of endurance training to be a mid at afl level but it will come in his 3rd year I think

Until then a great half back / loose across half back sort of player

I agree with Vader in that I hope we prioritise midfielders. Either 2 or at least pick 9. If you look at our list demographic our best players will be peaking over the next 4 years and we will not have a very good midfield to compliment guys like walker, Jacobs, Talia and lever.

Two 1st rounders could be playing good footy within 3 years. We've just had our best mid taken. Our second best mid probably only has next season left in him. Douglas is A grade at his best but maybe only has 2 good years left. We know Sloane and Smith are guns. Crouch is very much an 'if' at the moment. All of our other mids are unlikely to ever be A grade.

That makes Sloane and Smith over the coming years as our only A grade midfielders that we know of for sure. If you look at all of the best teams over the last 10 years, hawthorn is really the only one with gun kpf's. They've also nailed their midfield and defence. Imo having an elite midfield and a strong defence is the key to a premiership. Forward lines can be makeshift or simply solid.

That's my opinion anyway.
There ain't many good pure mids available at pick 9 , mathieson prob the most proven but I hope we don't draft him, even parish who will prob go at 3 is good rather than great

Oliver good but unproven at elite level kids footy

Agree always last minute changes ......but Lever was off a Knee with no exposed form ......much like Burton this year

2 mtre Peter is a Ruckman .....the odds were always that he would drift ......it was a massive surprise that GC took him as he was surplus to needs ......but GC always take best available

Francis is not either injured or a ruckman ......he's a a 191cm utility, who's an excellent mark and excellent kick ......give me one reason why any logical person would see him slipping?????

SA players slide every year.

Sam Durdin. James Aish. Brodie Grundy. Brodie Smith. Brad Ebert. James Sellar. Shannon Hurn. Travis Varcoe.

There are players every year from SA who go lower than expected a month or so out.

Remarkable that people still refer to Otten and Shaw as KPDs. They're not. Never have been, never will be.

We need another one on our list. More than likely to come from the rookie draft. Unless our main targets are gone and the only high rated players left are inside mids - Mathieson, Oliver etc. or half backs - Tucker, Bonner etc. - that we absolutely don't need; then we take Collins. He beat every key forward in the TAC, is big enough to play straight away if needed and doesn't run 18 until December, so still potential for growth in body and game.

Lever will be a KPD in two years.

And Shaw has to hope he can become one otherwise there is no role for him in an AFL side.

Nothing has changed for me.

1. Francis
2. Milera
3. Burton (IF leg ok)
4. Oliver (jumps Burton if doubts on injury)
5. McKay

It's possible all 5 could be gone by pick 13 but would be unlucky. I guess we would then look to Tucker, Hibberd or even B McKay if very keen to rank 'best available' towards height.
I agree but I think I'd take Collins at 13 if those top 5 are gone.

I'd take Collins ahead of Tucker or Hibberd.

Posted this link a month or so ago and some may have missed it, but if your into highlight reels on this years draft [good and bad] also get a run on "The Skipper" You tube channel, easily the most comprehensive coverage anywhere...includes footage also of some of next year's most likely draftees...

Haven't we just covered this off during trade period ....assuming Brad Crouch is fit and Smith goes into the midfield
With Knight on a wing and Hampton / Seedsman on a HBF ......we can't say we're a slow side
What has been a strength ....inside mids ...in one trade period is now a need
But can i keep banging this drum .....our issue is not footspeed ..it's marking power around the ground

I agree with WW. However, in addition to the marking power, I believe that we need skillful inside mids
who have an intimidating physical presence. It is these players who stand up in finals. Either we draft an experienced one next year, or we pick someone in the draft this year who is likely to develop into one.
Think in terms of Roo.

We have IF they actually turn out to be consistent AFL footballers. I'm hopeful 1 of Seedsman or Hampton can go close to fulfilling their potential, but I wouldn't bank on it. Menzel is likely yes but will be ever play as a full time mid?

There's a very good chance pick 9 and 13 will be good players.

Geesus i am getting mad  ......who the F....k suggests we pick Mathieson at #9

If this is Mathiesons HIGHLIGHTS ......would YOU pick him at #9

What possesses people ?

 How can we be unsure of players we have seen at the top level over 50 games .......and be sure of picks 9 & 13 for players we've never seen play outside of junior footy?????????

Those aren't necessarily his highlights. They are his play involvements during the carnival. And there are better judges out there who rate him highly so I would trust their opinion personally.

What that video shows me is .....a player devoid of any "x" factor ....no hurt factor with his disposal ....and a player who panic's under pressure

So show me something which shows these highlights to be a complete anomaly ? .......this is not how he plays?
