List Mgmt. Draft Watch 2015

I'm extremely hopeful Carlton are looking to build a spine this year and take McKay at 8.

It will take him 5 years to show anything and I don't want us wasting pick 9 on a 5 year prospect to replace Jenkins.

We should be concentrating all our efforts on peaking in 2-3 years when Walker, Sloane, Talia etc are in their prime. We need to be focusing our resources on that reality so we have the best chance at premiership success in that window. Draft this year for guys with class who can play next year or 2017 at the latest. Next year move heaven and earth to trade in a ready made gun mid.

Put our eggs in the premiership basket with this group. Fukk looking 5 years out with our first pick. We're not in rebuild mode we should be looking to challenge
Reckon he could knock Jenkins out by 2018 and then be a 12 year player as a key fwd that is versatile enough to play deep or up the ground and chop out in ruck

Upside bigger than most utilities that are in the mix , but Francis before him I could handle

I think most of us got Donkey's point and placed it in the right context.....
And what exactly is your point ?......or do you want the forum simply to reflect your views of opinions and standards

If it;s on topic ....let it flow rather than directing traffic

this is it, we either win a premiership in the next 3-4 years or not until after Tex, Sloane, Talia have retired.

I just read this post on the draft board that i thought people may be interested in.

TerryWallet Ive been watching the key SA boys for the past 3 years (Haysman, Snelling, Francis, Bonner, Agostino, Hewitt, Brind, Coombe, Redman, Burton, Pardington etc) and have some insiders at each of their clubs. I spoke to my contact at Bonners club (West Adelaide) last week as like you I was concerned about the injury. The initial injury was minor and the moon boot was purely precautionary - no bone damage and only a slight strain (right foot) A MRI scan last week showed no signs of any damage and 100% recovery, Bonner has started running already. Still think his range is 20-30.

I can also advise Francis had no injury only fatigue and overload from a busy year. This was the only reason he didn't compete at the combine, smart management IMO

Reports also confirm Burton is flying, running well and started stepping up his ball use. This is pleasing to hear and will certainly push him into top 15 consideration. He is the Jake Stringer in this years draft and well worth the risk.

Hope this helps.

Gee I hope we don't end up actually picking the way that mock draft predicts. You would hope that if both H. McKay and Francis are gone by our 1st pick, that we would pick a genuine inside midfielder (e.g. Oliver) over a specialist HFF.

That draft was very bad IMO. Burton to Dockers at 26. SMH at that. Still everyone has an opinion I suppose.

Burton and Weideman are having a 2nd Medical 6 days b4 the National Draft ....very thorough medical, not like the Combine ....I believe all club doctors / club reps will be there

Weideman as i stated earlier is no certainty early draft

People just aren't using their eyes...

It's quite odd, he doesn't use his eyes to judge who should be selected, preferring to just back in whatever decisions have been made by the selectors. But seems to get quite irate when posters predict what he sees as being the wrong draft selection. A strange beast indeed.

If we take Balic at 9, I'll be leading the chorus of boos at the convention centre. I personally wouldn't mind Mathieson at 13 (provided that our first selection isn't anything resembling an inside mid) but Balic at 9 is literally not even in the first 15 players I would consider. Yuck.

If the first 8 non-academy players off the board are in fact the ones hypothesised in this mock (they almost definitely won't be), I'd take Oliver without even blinking at 9, and then pair him with any of Burton, Tucker or Hibberd with our other pick. If we can somehow jag Francis at 9, then we can take anyone other than Hibberd at 13. If we jag Milera with our first pick, then I'd replace Tucker with Mathieson in the conversation for the second selection. If we take McKay, we should avoid Burton. Etc.

While drafting 'best available' is always the best policy for a first pick, I think it's vital that we don't draft two players who are too similar. Francis and Tucker, Milera and Burton, and Oliver and Burton are probably my three favourite pairings that actually seem possible. McKay and Tucker is probably another that the club is seriously weighing up. Balic and Mathieson? Yeah, nah.

Your argument sounds exactly like the argument used in Ebert vs Dangerfield debate back in the day. Overlooking a consensus top 10 pick predicted to go 7th who was All-Australian 2 years in a row, captain (or was it vice captain) of the SA U18 team, inside midfield gun who drew comparisons to Scott Thompson for a vic country kid from Moggs Creek who was used as a tagger in the U18s championships did not average double figure possesions and was not even going to come over straight away. On top of that he was predicted to go in the 20s leading into the draft.

Bottom line, if AFC pick anyone over Francis at 9, then I back them in as they would know a lot more than average Big Footy poster. Their track record with 1st round picks in recent years has been outstanding. They know what they are doing. No doubt about it!
Ummm...not really anything like the same argument but hey.

Clearly shows Partington, Snelling and Bonner in that order where our standouts
Had a quick look at some of the SA prospects featured in Cal Twomey's top 25 ...

I'll add in Luke Partington, I just really like this kid's movement.

I'm starting to think that we not going to grab any of these guys with pick 9, I don't think Francis will last that long - and think there are better prospects that are from interstate. I wouldnt be surprised with us grabbing Parlington with pick 13 though, as Milera / Burton / Bonner just look like taking a lot longer to develop to AFL standard. The best teams are letting other clubs develop these types then grabbing them when they hit 21 - especially "interstaters".

Dunno why but there is something about Parlington that stands out to me.

Fantastic reasoning to draft a player ......BTW can he play football at all ?
Tucker was rated top three and had a pre season injury that meant his season was only okay. We could get a bargain, someone with their head on straight who can be an outside me who can work in.

You're probably right, but this is the same club that gave DMac a 4 year deal. Different department I know but can't seem to get that out of my head when needing to trust them to make the right calls.

C'mon. That's incredibly dumb.

This is the club that drafted Charlie Cameron. That traded and STILL got Lever. That got Menzel for two things they didn't plan to use. That stole Betts away.

This is the club that had their head coach murdered and managed to win a final.

Yes. One player that showed promise and played a position that we were short on got a contract that was a year or so too long. True.

But he's not Liam Jones or the Future.

Tucker moves a lot like Nick Dal Santo. Not sure if he can kick as well but if we end up with a player of NDS's caliber with our second pick we'll be doing pretty well!

Those highlights of burton look good. Nice kick and great set of hands on him. Looks like a clever player too. Could payoff big time if we snagged him
