People say this draft is weak.. I have a feeling the first round will be as strong as it has been for a while. Down to 14-15 the best talent are actually pretty good. Maybe it drops off after 30 but the elite talent is certainly there.

And that's before you find out we're rookie-ing Matty Wright on Friday. The dream:
Milera - McKay
The reality:
Balic- Tucker.
I'm fully expecting to be disappointed.
We need mids this year, though, really. We need players who will be able to help us in a 2017/18 push. KPF's won't be able to help us do that. Mids will. That's partly why I want us to take Milera and Hibberd this year, trade a 2017 1st for a 2016 1st and take Strnadica (KPF/ruck), and trade our 2016 1st for Neale. Plus Jarman. Leaves us ready for 2017/18 and for 2021-23.Next year draft is a midfielders draft this has been quoted may times
Saw who, sorry?I know. Just saw them at Crows training.

We do not need mids this year, we have just added 4 players to our list and have a plethora of others that need to be given a chance to succeed. We will add Jarman next year and possibly someone like scharenberg. Looking like 2 of Milera, burton, bonner for me. Definately cannot see us going Curnow the club will not be stupid enough with the flight risk even though there is potential there. We need mids this year, though, really. it doesn't change next years depth if they take a KPFAnd how does drafting a KPF in 2015 change that equation? It doesn't improve our 2016 KPF depth one iota. All it does is add another name to the list of McGovern, Dear & Ramsey (as developing players).
Adelaide drafted 3x tall forwards last year. They really don't need to address that same need two years running. Us supporters just need to be patient and wait to see how McGovern, Dear & Ramsey turn out.
** Not saying the club won't take a KPF. Just saying that I don't think they should.
Oh dear God.And that's before you find out we're rookie-ing Matty Wright on Friday.
We desperately need high quality inside mids, to replace Dangerfield and Thompson (likely to retire next year). We do not need mids this year, we have just added 4 players to our list and have a plethora of others that need to be given a chance to succeed. And there's every chance you will be elated in a couple of years were that to happen, don't think there will be too many in this years top 20 or so that don't go on to have successful AFL careers.
For Carlton it's about finding the best players, for us it's about 2016. All clubs would struggle with losing a key forward but I think we would be less exposed than most (your example of Freo is true because they only have 1 and he is 34) your key forwards should take up about 10% of your list and we have 7 or 8 out of 38 now. BTW all 3 of our key forwards were taken outside the top 10 and we traded for 2 so you can certainly get them, look at Sydney's key forwards they didn't draft any of them.list management is about projection
we have 1 gun key forward 26 yrs old and jenkins who has surpassed expectation last 2 years + lynch who is a lead up hybrid forward (not key forward)
If one of these guys gets injured Andy otten is realistically the next in line until we see otherwise from mcgovern, dear and ramsey
if you don't think that is scary then good on you
in 2 yrs time tex will be 28 and jenkins toward the end ...the 18 yr old draftee that we may draft tonight will be 20 yrs old and still developing (eg boyd, daniher etc)
you can't just go a pluck a gun key fwd without a high draft pick, all you need to do is look at how fremantle are going trying to replace pav- it's almost impossible task without a top 10 draft pick
that's why we apparently offered 9 and 13 for pick 2- to get schache
the draft isn't about finding the best players for 2016, it's about finding the best players
How else is this supposed to be interpreted:it doesn't change next years depth if they take a KPF
but never said it did, at the moment dear , mcgovern and ramsey are massive long shots
the cupboard is v bare and when you draft a KPF it will take 2-4 years for the really high picks and even more for the lower picks which are v speculative when talking kpf
I do note that the rest of your post discussed future planning, but the start of it appears to be addressing an issue with 2016 KPF depth (which is better than most of the other clubs anyway).list management is about projection

We desperately need high quality inside mids, to replace Dangerfield and Thompson (likely to retire next year).
We picked up a lot of outside mids during this year's trading period, but no inside mids. All of the outside mids we picked up have question marks hanging over them, which is why their previous clubs were so willing to trade them. Potentially we have improved our stock of outside mids quite considerably - now we need to address the lack of quality inside midfielders on our list.
Reckon the best possible, likely outcome now is Curnow (if we convince him to stay after two years) and Milera.
Dean Gore IS an inside midfielder!!
What do we want? All we need is a functional time machine.
Fair call. He is... albeit completely unproven at AFL level, and not highly rated in his initial draft year.Dean Gore IS an inside midfielder!!
I don't mind us taking on a developing tall in the rookie draft but right now we have the makings of a fantastic side. We have great tall forwards and tall backs and we have great small forwards backs and mid backs. What we don't have is a great midfield and the only way of rectifying that quickly is to put as many irons in the fire as we can. We can always trade for a key forward in 3 years that someone else has put the work into but next year and 2017 have to be our priority now. What we need is to be developing a key forward who can take over from Walker/Jenkins when the retire. Jenkins is 26 going on 27, it will probably take Mckay 4-5 years to become a regular in the team and would give us some depth before then.

Bonner looks very very good doesn't he.
Harley Bennell board. You'd think after the events of this week, he'd just be happy if someone still wants him. He'd be one of the last people who should be making any demands at the moment.
Going on his U18's champs and the 3 or 4 VFL games I watched him play on 7Mate this year I'd class him as essentially an inside mid with a nice turn of pace.....I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised with the actual talent Gore has and he will be a very handy pick up.I thought he was in/out in the Sloane mold?
He was rated as a pretty good player last year. I was hoping we'd get him.Fair call. He is... albeit completely unproven at AFL level, and not highly rated in his initial draft year.
We have enough up and coming inside midfield talent with Crouch, Cey, Gore there is not one that is worthy of wasting 1 of our first round picks on as the best will be well gone by our first.. Our recruiting team will make the correct decision on the night I am sure...We desperately need high quality inside mids, to replace Dangerfield and Thompson (likely to retire next year).

Gore was a player that, when I was at Hawthorn in his draft year (2014) we rated in the 20s-30s but slipped to pick No. 55. If he was in this year’s draft I’d say he’d go between picks 15-25.
