Ha!

I'd say if he's still on the board at GC's pick we'll make an offer to them, and probably offer Essendon the same if he drops further still. But if there's no concerns from your list mgmt team about him being a flight risk, or around his OP, then I don't see why you wouldn't select him with one of your picks.

If he simply drops to our Pick 9 then I think we can safely there would be some serious concerns about his fitness/OP, but i doubt this would be the case.
Be stoked to get him at our first pick. Looks a nice KPF prospect and we're light on them.

Not so concerned about flight risks. It's rare for us to lose interstate players. Raz is the first i can recall in a long while.

Theres obviously a chance but with Brand and Eyre as NGA kids I would think the smart thing is to take 2 mids and 1 tall with the 3 early picks
Dodoro is of the school that you buiild your spine
And if next year is so rich with mids, we could opt to build the KP depth
Reid, Cox, Brand, Eyre on top of Wright w/Zerk, Jones & Bryan.

You'd think we'd get a solid spine for the future from that lot.

But agree we should be getting mids.

Logic dictates taking 2 mids and 1 tall but so tempting to grab both Reid and Cox. We have also picked up Caldwell obviously. The next year, we would go for a mid and throw money at a gun free agent. It would be a lot of talls on our list including Brand and Eyre. The reserves line up will be ridiculously tall. People keep saying Cox can play on a wing too so maybe that is also a factor for taking 2 talls with 6, 7 and 8.

yeah. the idea of Cox sliding on to a wing as a tall, athletic outlet is enticing
1) point of difference
2) would mean the spine has settled itself without him.
3) He could push fwd/back to play a pseudo tall fwd/def role.

There’s a reasonable chance Brand and Eyre won’t make it so I’m happy to chase quality talls in the first round.

Does make a level of sense
Between Reid, Cox, Zerk, Wright, Jones, Bryan, Brand & Eyre, we should find at least 4 to build a decent spine around for the best part of a decade.

Trade off is a thin midfield
Shiel, Merrett, McGrath, Parish, Heppell, Caldwell, Langford up on a wing/HFF, Perkins and whoever supports from the little depth we hold.
But we've had that for a while, so could live with it another year and hit draft/trade/FA period hard to fill that gap.

Perkins and Caldwell (remember hes only 20), thats 2 good mids to add to the mix.

still think we're short on depth
But we could live with it given the likes of Laverde, Stringer, Tippa, Snelling, etc can go into the middle
I also didn't count Smith. If he recovers from the injury, he adds another body in there.

Yeah they possibly dont make it, but I just think bringing in 4 talls via draft and also have brought in 2MP in one offseason is a bit lopsided. Personally if they do decide to go Cox and Reid or a Thilthorpe/ Cox or Reid combo they should look at overlooking one of the NGA kids if they have a better option at the available pick.

Shiel, merrett, mcgrath, parish, Caldwell, Langford

Then blokes who will occasionally roll through heppell, smith, tippa, stringer, snelling, maybe even laverde

I dont think its a huge pressing need especially if we add perkins and then most likely get a gun next year if we have a top 10 pick.

From Kevin Sheehan those a chance to be there at our first pick
Nik Cox

Developing tall defender/forward who has elite kicking skills on both his right and left side. Strong in the air and with clean hands below the knees he has excellence endurance for a player of his size. Son of former Fitzroy, Brisbane Lions and Melbourne Demons swingman Darryl Cox, his mercurial potential was on display in 10 matches in the NAB League in 2019 averaging 11.6 disposals and 4.5 marks. 202cm 83kg 02/03/02
Tall defender who can really impact the game with his overhead marking and precise kicking both long and short out of defence. Still requiring plenty of physical development he is a one-touch player below the knees - super impressive for a young player so tall. Very consistent player with the Power in 2019 averaging 11 disposals in 15 games as a bottom-ager before showcasing his overall talent and potential in Team Dal Santo in the Futures game on the MCG on AFL Grand Final day.
Weapon - Overhead marking and absolute reach

Archie Perkins
Sandringham Dragons - NAB League/Brighton Grammar
188cm 79kg 26/03/02

Is a long and penetrating kick, strong overhead and has explosive speed and power. Another player to get the chance to play in the AFL Futures match on the MCG on AFL Grand Final day, with Team Dal Santo getting a sense of the opportunities ahead. Tested in outstanding condition at Victorian Combine with Running Vertical jump of 91cm (Ranked third nationally) recording 2.93 seconds for 20 metres as well as a top 10 finish in the 2km, running it in 6 minutes 23 seconds.
Weapon - X-factor overhead and power
Traits like - GWS Giants’ Tim Taranto

Riley Thilthorpe
West Adelaide FC - SANFL/Goodwood Saints FC
201cm 100kg 07/07/02
Exciting tall forward/ruckman who has already played 15 games at senior level for West Adelaide over the last two years after missing last year’s Under 18s Championships due to injury. Star at Under 16s level in Championships in 2018 for South Australia winning All Australian honours and last year prominent in NAB AFL Futures match on AFL Grand Final day with his overhead marking, agility, and repeat efforts all part of his arsenal. Has a real presence as a marking target up forward.
Weapon - Contested marking
Traits like - Richmond’s Tom Lynch

Elijah Hollands
Murray Bushrangers - NAB League/Wodonga FC
189cm 85kg 25/04/02
Medium forward who is a beautiful natural mover with strong, clean hands and elite kicking skills either foot. An All Australian at Under 16s level in 2018 he stepped up to play all four matches with the Victorian Country Under 18s team last year averaging 13.5 disposals and four marks confirming his AFL potential. Was in scintillating form last year in two representative games at Under 17s level firstly versus New Zealand at Marvel Stadium and then for Team Brown at the MCG on AFL Grand Final day gathering 24 disposals in each game with five goals overall. Awarded the Cameron Ling Medal for the NAB AFL Academy’s most professional bottom-aged prospect to cap a great year. Unfortunately injured his ACL in pre-season training early this year but is on the road to a full recovery and putting that disappointment behind him. Father Ben played eight games for Richmond before becoming a star for West Adelaide in the SANFL.
Weapon - Innate goal sense and step through traffic
Traits like - Collingwood’s Jordan De Goey

Medium midfielder who starred for Victoria Country in the 2018 NAB AFL Under 16s Championships averaging 17.3 disposals and winning both its MVP award and All Australian honours. He reads the game exceptionally well and has very good fundamentals with his clean hands, strength overhead along with his ball use by hand and foot. An excellent contested ball-winner but injury interrupted his 2019 season playing just three games at the end of the year including the Futures game on the MCG on AFL Grand Final day. Looked impressive in NAB AFL Academy camps for Victoria Country over summer showing his poise, class and polish suggesting he was set for exciting season.
Weapon - Decision making and composure
Traits like - Collingwood’s Taylor Adams

this does not help my Perkins, Reid, Cox obsession.

Neither does it for me

If the Fab 5 are gone they are my favourite 3
Im not entirely sure im overly enamoured with the top 5 outside the 2x KPFs tbh.

If Thilthorpe slips, i'd be happy
Outside that, this is my preferred outcome.
Then Merrett signing on and whatever top mid we can get next year (and Dunkley please)

In Perkins feature on afl.com.au he said hawthorn have interviewed him 3 times and essendon twice.
I am hoping they go Perkins and we get Hollands

There is approximately a 0.000000000000000000001% chance Hollands slips to us

In relation to taking too many talls in this draft I think given the fact talls take so long develop we're best giving ourselves a few chances to develop these KPP players now and look at building around them in future drafts with young mids and role players. Cox also isn't really bound by playing a KPP role too, he can just as easily be a link up wingman given his endurance and speed.

So if Hawthorn take Perkins like it is rumoured does that mean Phillips slips to us?
