Now that we're getting to see names released I thought it would be worthwhile starting a new thread to deal with the draft. This thread will contain details of kids that are invited to the draft camps. I'll do my best to try and keep the info as up to date as possible. Hopefully some of the regular posters who watch a bit of U/18's footy will be able to help out answering questions that people might have.

So far the medium forwards and midfielders have been named. Over the next few weeks the others will be named starting with small forwards this week, Medium defenders August 22, Tall Forwards August 29, Tall Defenders Sept 5 and Ruckmen Sept 12.

I know its a big call as he is tipped to go around the 10-15 mark but Keiran. H. plays like a taller version of Milne and would complete our forward set-up.

I actually think Harper will end up more like Didak as a player. High HF or wingman with beautifully weighted kicking around the ground and a great goal sense.

I do think however that Haper's defensive side could be better and that is a part of Atley's game that he excels in.

For that reason I'd prefer Atley I think. Combined with his in and under he just seems like he has less deficiencies in his game.

That being said I'd be very happy with Harper.

I want Gaff or Atley!
Im leaning more towards Gaff but Atley can seriously play and if we snare either of those 2 with pick 6 we have come 1 step closer to completing our Midfield and being a serious force in the centre bounces for years to come!

Both are ready made and could have an imediate impact at senior level!

I think the mids are very even and it will be development and luck that seperates them. That said Gaffs skills are really good, Atley is a gun and Harper is the Chapman/Didak player we are screaming out for.

IMO ready made first rounders are players that are risk free and you know will not fail at the level aka choose them first. Upside players are a huge risk and one not worth taking...

everything i see , read , hear makes me wish we could get sam day but unfortunately doesnt look like its going to happen.

i really get the feeling that atly is the player that we will end up with & that doesnt really sound like a bad thing.

alot on here compare & believe he is a pendlebury clone & that would be great for the tigers cotchin, martin, foley, delidio, connors, edwards, collins, atley, morton, lot to work with there for hardwick.

would appreciate more info on atley from the junior watchers if possible.

Connors imo will always be a HBF. However there are plenty in there to cover rotations and our midfield could almost be completed.

Cotchin, Martin, Foley, Deledio and Atley would be your starting roation in 3 years. Then Collins, Morton and Edwards roate through. I think with our second pick we need to get a gun HFF/small goal kicker or a ruckman.

I think it was disco who said that Day will go play baseball if he doesn't get drafted by a Victorian or SA club...which bodes well for us. Although, if true, then as I said, it does raise some rather serious questions about his attitude...sounds a bit full of himself.

Personally, from what I saw of this year's carnival....it was pretty obvious to me this is going to be a fairly sub-par draft. They matches were all absymal and, unlike other years, I can't honestly recall seeing one player who really made me sit up and go "wow.....wouldn't mind getting him"...

Wouldn't mind some opinions on Jonathon Ceglar a big 200cm 19 year old ruckman from Murray. If we're chasing another young ruckman to develop behind Graham Browne & Vickery I reckon he could be a decent pick in the later rounds.

I dont know what it is about Mitch Hallahan but I would love to see him down at tigerland

I agree with this although i dont think he will be the best aval. at pick 6. I think Antly or Parker, I really rate Parker and is the half forward goal kicking midfielder we need. Mitch i would love at our second pick also if we could upgrade our Second pick + Polo for a pick around the 14-16 mark to make sure we get another solid player aka Mitch.

No one is going to upgrade our second pick say 30 to 14-16 for Dean Polo who imo will be lucky to even get picked up.

You can't give crap players and expect a lot in return.

Slightly off topic and no doubt asked before but will GC be subject to the same rules regarding priorities/picks that the rest of us are once they're inducted into the AFL? I mean they've had more than their share of high picks already and with their inevitable early struggles will they just continue to take high picks off us for the next few years?

I think there was talk the AFL will abandon the first round PP but that being said I can't see the AFL turning down an opportunity to help one of it's pet franchises.

Atley, Gaff, Darling, Gorringe, Caddy

I think Atley may go at 4 and Gaff 5 leaving the remaining 3 at 6...

Also Harper, Smith and Polec but I don't know much about them!

Who do we take?

Darling for the fact he could be a superstar? Or go with a gun mid to complete our midfield or at least add to it...

I'd pick Smith or Polec. Smith's type isn't exactly high on our needs list, but as an inside mid I rate him above Caddy and Parker, with superior kicking skills and a real athletic spark about him. Imagine Smith, Foley, and Martin all bursting from packs - our midfield would be unstoppable. We could also use him to fill that back pocket position where he has performed very well in the past, and which continues to trouble us with players like Milne tearing us a new one every week.

Polec is probably suited a lot more to our structure as a long kicking, fast and smooth moving outside runner, but he isn't quite as high a prospect as Smith, I'd say.

Yeah I had a look at some of his footage today. He looks very athletic and skills are pretty good.

Either way I don't think we can lose if we take one of the mids out of Smith, Atley, Gaff or Caddy.

Does anyone know the best young ruckman from the champs?
